circles are important

How to Meet Local Spirits

(Revamp of my answer to this ask [x])

Local spirits are the spirits that are constantly around us, in the forests, on the beaches, in schools, in homes, etc. They can be ghosts, mythological creatures, entities never mentioned in lore before and more. Their personalities and friendliness towards humans can vary quite a bit, especially depending on where you live. Think of them as your spirit neighbors. Some might remain as such for the entire time that you know them, others might become your companions or maybe even your rivals! The important thing is that you respectfully interact with them and be aware of their boundaries.

There’s two main ways that I’ve found to make contact with local spirits: call them to you or go outside and meet them in the places they live. Calling them to you is actually kind of a similar concept to conjuring except that you are only calling to the spirits that live in your area and that there’s no guarantee that they’ll show up. Going out is like a scientist going on a field study for an organism that they’re interested in: might find them, might not, and if it’s spirits we’re talking about then might find but they don’t want to be interacted with.

That’s the biggest thing to remember when working with local spirits, that not all spirits are interested in interacting with humans. In fact, many spirits couldn’t care less about humans or even actively have ways to prevent humans from meeting them. You should respect spirits that don’t want to be worked with. If you really want to work with a particular group then you could try negotiating with them or slowly building up a relationship with them in order to see if they will eventually be willing. Just don’t force any spirit to interact or speak with you, that will end badly for you every time.

Safety

Spirit work isn’t always the safest thing and there’s many ways that you can be harmed. The most important thing to have is a protective circle. It will protect you from many things and can actually be very versatile. Obviously this is hard to make when going out and meeting spirits so we’ll separate the safety procedures for each technique.

Going Out to Meet the Spirits

When going out not only is it harder to bring and set up materials, you’re also in public a lot of the time which limits what you can do. That is why personal warding is important. Personal warding can take the form of energy shields, protective amulets, etc. These are things that should be prepared before going out with the intent of meeting spirits so that they are ready in case you do get attacked.

Calling the Spirits

Calling the spirits comes with the risk of inviting unknown entities into your home. That is why it is important to have wards and a protective circle. The circle will protect you if they try to attack you during the meeting while the wards will prevent them from getting back in after being banished. Generic wards are basic spirit work stuff so I’m not going to go into them here.

A circle, however, can be made in many different ways. The most important thing to keep in mind is that it has protective elements that you feel are helpful to you, not what some list on the internet says. You could take from traditional circles and use them as a template for creating your own or you can completely make a new style of circle. The possibilities are endless! Some things you might want to include are protective stones, the names of deities you work with, protective words or sigils, candles, etc. Any physical item you use should have a designated spot for it. Your orientation of the elements of the circle is also important, or well it can be if you ascribe that importance! Perhaps you use the four elements to protect you in your circle and you associate them with a particular direction for example.

When you decide on what the circle should look like, practice making and using it! You can draw it out on an old sheet so that you don’t have to keep remaking it, you can set out physical items in the shape of a circle or you can create it with energy if you’re good at that. However you make it, it’s important to get used to being in it and the energy that goes into “activating” it. Activating it usually involves calling upon whatever makes up the circle to protect you. Sticking with the element example, you’d activate is by calling for Fire, Water, Earth, and Air to protect you. Once you are done with the circle, you must close it. This usually means allowing whatever you called upon to depart but in the reverse order from before. Try it out, play around with it, find or create whatever procedure that is comfortable to you.

When speaking with spirits, do not let them in no matter how much they try to persuade you. Also, do not leave the circle until you are sure that they are gone. That’s why you should keep any banishing tools and the like on hand so you don’t have to run and fetch them. If you don’t follow both of those rules then what’s the point of making the circle?

[There’s many different ways to use a circle, this is just a generic explanation of it].

Calling the Spirits to You

This process includes creating a call of energy and sending it out into the “energy network” of your local area. Spirits in the area can hear this call and choose whether or not to answer it and show up.

Tools needed: An offering for the spirit that you are calling, any banishing tools, any physical items that make up your circle, a wand if you need/use one, and any communication tools if you need them.

Making the Call: Cast your circle, set your offering outside of it and get into a clear state of mind where you can access your energy. Say the call, either out loud or in your head, doesn’t matter. It can be anything but basically along the lines of “I call to any [spirit name] that would be interested in speaking with me for [an interview]. In return, I have an offering of [the offering]”. You can call them for any reason but like I’ve mentioned before, they’re not obligated to come. As you say the call, form the energy of your words into a ball of energy in front of you. This is where you can use your wand to help channel the energy easier. Visualization also helps here. Once it is formed and stable, send it out in all directions into the environment. I usually just shoot a quick burst of energy at it to give it the momentum to move fast but you can flick your wrist/wand or do whatever it is you normally do to send energy out.

Even after you finish saying the call, you can feed more energy into the energy ball if you want the call to be “louder” and travel farther. This can be dangerous though because since the call is made from your energy, it is connected to you and that’s how the spirits who answer your call can find you. When the call reaches the limits of its strength it disappears and all links to you are gone. However, the stronger you make it, the longer it is out in the environment and the more likely unexpected spirits can trace you. So basically, don’t make the call too powerful.

Meeting the Spirit: If the call isn’t made too strong (aka the amount of energy that the sample call above makes) then at most, it should take 10 minutes for the call’s energy to die out (usually not actually that long but it’s good to be safe). After you finish speaking with the spirit, thank them for coming and allow them to leave. Make sure that they are actually gone before closing your circle. If a spirit doesn’t appear within that time you can either resend the call or close your circle and try again later.

Notes: Creating the call doesn’t guarantee that a spirit will show up. It also doesn’t mean that the spirit who shows up is the spirit that you called to. I mean in the four years that I’ve been using this technique, I’ve never had the “wrong” spirit show up but I find it very hard to believe that it’s not possible. Both of these are reasons why it’s important to have the basic techniques for being able to sense a spirit’s presence and determine their identity.

Going Out and Meeting Spirits

This process is much more straightforward. You essentially go out to places in your area like beaches, parks, schools, etc., see if you can sense any spirits, and then see if any are interested in talking with you.

Tools needed: Any protective amulets or items that you have and an offering for any spirits you may come across

I don’t have much explanation for this because it ain’t much more complex than that. If you don’t know who you’re going to meet, generic offerings to bring include water, alcohol, bread, rice, tobacco, etc. If you know of an offering that the spirits where you’re headed would prefer then bring that. No matter what you bring do not leave anything that will pollute the environment. Any food offerings you bring should be in a container and then properly disposed of, not thrown on the ground for example.

Set out the offering and ask if anyone wants it. You can also respectfully approach anyone you see and ask if they would want it. If they decline your offer, then don’t press them. Just give them a “okay, sorry for bothering you” and leave. Be respectful when interacting with them, you are on their territory after all.

Also be smart about who you approach. If someone’s energy makes you feel uncomfortable or they’re a species or have an affiliation with a group that is known to be hostile, then be aware that you may need to defend yourself if you choose to approach them and things go sour. Of course not all bad-feeling spirits are actually bad, not all good-feeling spirits are actually good, and first impressions can be misleading. Just trust your intuition and be prepared for the worst in case it happens.

What to Do if You Are in Danger

It’ll happen. Not all spirits are friendly and many might look at you as prey or something to mess with. The most important thing to do is stay calm. When a spirit attacks, it can be very scary so I know that keeping a clear head isn’t always the easiest of things in that situation. That is why you should develop a clear plan for dealing with attacks beforehand and have all the tools that you need already prepared. If it’ll help, write down a basic procedure for banishing and keep it in your pocket or somewhere else that spirits won’t be able to easily see. That way even if you’re freaking out, you’ll have a lifeline telling you what to do.

Calling the Spirits

If a spirit attacks, tries to force their way into your circle, or suddenly acts hostile, banish immediately. It’s best not to take any chances. Once they are banished, cleanse the area and reinforce your wards. Sometimes spirits may do something that might make you uncomfortable but you don’t feel as though it’s bad enough to warrant forcing them out. You can simply ask them to leave or let them know that the behavior will not be tolerated. If they ignore your request, banish them. It’s possible that a spirit isn’t aware that they might be making you uncomfortable and so talking it out first before immediately jumping to banishing (if they’re not actively attacking you) could be beneficial for both of you. Just remember to be firm in your boundaries and don’t let the spirit persuade you into letting them go.

Reasons not to banish a spirit:

If they look “scary”. Their appearance doesn’t always reflect their personality. For some, that’s just the way that they were born.

If they’re a “demon”. Demon is a very useless, broad term that describes a myriad of entities all of which have different personalities and moralities. “Demon” is not the equivalent of “evil”.

Going out and Meeting the Spirits

The difference here is that you can’t really banish spirits when you visit them at their homes. That’d be like going over to a friend’s house and trying to kick them out. If a spirit attacks you while you’re away from your protected space, the best you can do is get out of there. If you came prepared with proper protection then it should be able to buy you enough time to escape. Depending on the situation, the attacking spirit may or may not be interested in chasing you. So, sometimes “escaping” can be simply removing yourself from the area immediately as the spirit is just acting aggressive so that you’ll back off. But other times, you may need to do a little more than that. If you suspect that you got followed home, perform a banishing of your property and cleanse yourself and the area. Then reinforce your wards.

The one thing that I have to say is that you need to be cognizant of why that spirit is attacking you. More specifically, you need to be aware of when your actions provoke a spirit to attack. Did you infringe upon their territory? Did you bother them after they told you that they didn’t want to interact? You are out in their realm, just as a spirit that you invite into your house should respect you, you should respect spirits when you meet them at their homes.

Which Process Should You Use?

It depends on what “level” of spirit work you’re at and what you want to accomplish. Calling a spirit to you is definitely requires an intermediate skill level in energy and spirit work whereas going out and meeting them only requires that you be able to sense and communicate with spirits. However, when you call a spirit to you, they’re more likely to be willing to talk since that’s what they came for according to your call. You’re also more protected since you’re able to have your circle and tools right at hand. Spirits that you simply meet outside aren’t always going to want to speak and it’s a bit harder to protect against them. So which process should you use? Both.

Not all spirits are interested in answering a call but they may be willing to talk with you come across them when outside. Sometimes, you need a long conversation with a spirit which is where calling them will be more useful. Calling them might even seem more convenient but I think that it’s important that you learn about the spirits around you by going out and meeting them before calling them to you. It not only helps you get a better idea of the community but it also lets spirits get a better idea of who you are.

The first panel doesn’t include cowboy sound effects, but I hear them anyway.

WELP HERE IT IS

THE OTHER HALF OF WHAT KUROPAPA STARTED

He was hiding his injuries so he could go right back into battle (even though this might mean dying)

And Kuromama did the exact same thing, pretending to be fine, and now ignoring her injuries to go straight back into the shrine (even though this also might mean dying)

They’re scarily perfect for each other in that regard. But it also means that they’re both definitely dying. This is it. This is how Suwa ends.

Because they didn’t have the time or strength to let themselves heal enough to protect their loved ones the way they wanted.

And it’s heartbreaking that both of their lives are going to end in utter failure of the one mission they cradle so deeply in their hearts.

But it’s also such a firm reminder to Kurogane (and the rest of the Tsubasa family, really) that you NEED to let yourself heal if you want to protect the ones you care about.

I’m not saying Kuromama and Kuropapa had a choice and made the wrong one, but the emphasis is clear that they were both presented with Kurogane insisting that they heal, and in both cases they didn’t (couldn’t?) do that thing, and then they both fail.

So turn this back to Tomoyo in Piffle reminding Kurogane that he, too, needs to heal. And he already knows that she’s right. Because it’s hounded him his entire life.

They just. Need. To let themselves heal.

Otherwise no-one will survive this storyline at all.

I want to talk about Cassian...

Because of course I do. But I have been having some thoughts about him and his position both within the Inner Circle but also what he does in a wider sense for Rhys and the Night Court and the challenges he must have faced in doing so.

“And we’re not lesser faeries, though some try to call us that. We’re just—Illyrians. Considered expendable aerial cavalry for the Night Court at the best of times, mindless soldier grunts at the worst.
“Which is most of the time,” Azriel clarified.

I want to consider how this idea must have shaped Cassian (and Azriel)’s time in the Night Court. This is the court a large chunk of which rejected Rhys – the most powerful High Lord in Prythian’s history in part because he was half-Illyrian. I don’t think it’s a huge stretch to imagine that this prideful court might not have reacted altogether that well when their armies were placed under the command of a bastard born pure Illyrian warrior like Cassian.

To them the Illyrians are ‘expendable’ or else ‘mindless soldier grunts’ they’re arrow fodder, they’re the consistent vanguard that does the brunt of the damage and takes the brunt of the blows from the oncoming battle and protects the far more important, far more valuable High Fae and faerie warriors of the Night Court behind them. They’re a shield and a battering ram, a tool to be used and little more.

I can’t imagine that they took well to having Cassian placed over them as commander, no matter how he might have proved himself in battle these sort of stereotypes and ways of thinking aren’t something you overcome because of a few good war stories. I can only imagine the backlash that Cassian suffered as a result of this and how these people he would lay down his life to protect more than likely thought him entirely unworthy of his position, unworthy of respect, unworthy of the honour of command, unworthy to lead them.

But I don’t really want to focus too much on that aspect of it. I want to focus on Cassian. And I want to focus on the way in which I think he would have won these warriors over (because he still commands Rhys’ armies. If he’d been unable to do so, unable to earn their loyalty and obedience he wouldn’t)

Methods of controlling/keeping subjects and inferiors in line is something that is brought up in this series. It’s not given a huge amount of attention but it is there. Tamlin is a good example of the other side of Cassian’s coin.

Tamlin and the Spring Court before him is steeped in a tradition of control and control through fear. This is seen on a small scale with the way in which Tamlin responds to Lucien pushing back, he belittles Lucien, “Did I ask for your opinion?”  and uses his considerable power to punish Lucien for an insolent look (a punishment we’re never shown which adds to the sense of fear)

But it’s seen on a larger scale with the Tithe. People are expected to pay their dues to him and they turn up and do so yes because it’s a symbiotic balance in a way – they provide for Tamlin and he keeps them safe – but also from the fear of him hunting them down and executing them if they don’t do as they’re commanded.

This method is no doubt successful but in the long term it has some very serious, gaping flaws. Ruling with fear leaves little room for anything else and I don’t think it inspires a whole lot of loyalty or respect.

The flip side of this is I think the method that Cassian would have used to bind his warriors to him. I can’t see Cassian ordering brutal punishments or executions for those who refuse to fall in line with him (largely because initially this would likely have meant executing pretty much everyone) I don’t think fear or brutality would have appealed in the least to Cassian (I don’t think he’s a pushover; and if someone betrays them or acts out of turn he will punish them) but initially, making people fall in because they fear him isn’t something I can see him doing.

I think Cassian would have won them to him with love. With compassion and empathy and that heart of his. I think Cassian, the greatest warrior Rhys has ever known, doesn’t use that aspect of himself to command fear and make his men too terrified of his wrath to disobey them – I think he inspires love in his men and I think this love breeds the loyalty and respect that Tamlin is lacking which is why Cassian has been so successful as a commander in the past.

Rhys loosed a breath. “…I’ve witnessed Cassian rip apart opponents and then puke his guts up once the carnage stopped, sometimes even mourn them.

There’s such compassion in Cassian, raw, strong, utterly unapologetic compassion. I think that in spite of being one of the strongest Illyrians in history and being loaded with the killing power, despite everything that’s been done to him and everything he’s seen Cassian retains quite a tender heart. Which is so rare from this type of male character? The cocky warrior with the skills and title to back that up is allowed to have that gentleness to him, is allowed to respond to the things he’s done in this way, is allowed to throw his guts up after killing, is allowed to mourn his enemy because he feels what he’s done so keenly.

Cassian is a warrior at heart. Born and bred and trained to be one of the best killers in Prythian but I think he’s far deeper and more complex than that. He is not only a warrior. He is a trainer and a brother, a friend, a lover and a dreamer. He is not defined by this warrior status. He is not a bloodthirsty killer who delights in battle and argues for war as the way forward in every instance. He is a fighter – the best Rhys has ever come across – but he doesn’t relish it. He doesn’t relish violence or death. He doesn’t take any pleasure in it. He doesn’t claim glory from the things he’s done or the title he holds.

Cassian shrugged, wings tucking in tighter. “I command Rhys’s armies.”
As if such a position were something that one shrugged off.

But for Cassian that is the way he responds to it because that may be the title that he holds but it is not who he is. It does not define him. His pride does not lie in the number of warriors he has at his disposal, the number of men he can send to slaughter and die. It does not lie in the great, bloody deeds he’s done in war. It does not lie in the people he has killed. It lies in the people he has saved. Which is why Cassian mourns his enemies, the people he’s killed, the people that need not have died, the people that might have been saved and weren’t. All of them. Friend or foe.

When she finally noticed Cassian, she looked up at him.
His voice was rough as he said, “Five hundred years ago, I fought on battlefields not far from this house. I fought beside human and faerie alike, bled beside them. I will stand on that battlefield again, Nesta Archeron, to protect this house—your people. I can think of no better way to end my existence than to defend those who need it most.”

This I think is one of the most telling and important moments for sussing out who Cassian is and that last line in particular I think is one of the most defining Cassian quotes I can think of. It tells you what he values, it tells you what he loves, it tells you why he fights which is the most important question for someone like Cassian in the position that he’s in. He must always be ready to fight and die; he must always be able to rationalise it and justify it and live with it afterwards especially when he responds to death the way he does: he must know why he fights and what for.

This is a man who fights because he must. This is a man who fights not for glory or honour or riches or legacy or for the simple pleasure of violence and killing. This is a man who fights for love. For compassion. A man who does these things because he has to, to protect those who cannot protect themselves - for this he will die, for this he will blacken his soul and bloody his hands with the acts of war that make him sick to his stomach again and again and again. To defend those who need it most.

The wrappings around my hands were now mere smudges of soot. Cassian’s upraised palms remained before me—ready to take the blow, if I needed to make it. “I’m all right,” he said quietly. Gently.
And maybe I was exhausted and broken, but I breathed, “I killed them.”
I hadn’t said the words aloud since it had happened.
Cassian’s lips tightened. “I know.” Not condemnation, not praise. But grim understanding.

This whole scene is beautifully written and put together and incredibly moving and it’s something I fully intend to meta on and pick apart much more completely than this when I reach it again in ACOMAF. But for Feyre for her recovery, for her grief and guilt this moment where she expresses it out loud is a huge turning point for her and incredibly important. But for Cassian too, for understanding him it’s hugely important for his character as well.

This was one of the first moments where I truly saw Cassian; saw the man behind the fighting leathers and the cocky smiles, saw to that burning heart he has inside. This is a point at which you realise that Cassian is a fighter and a warrior and a killer but in spite of all that, deep down, I don’t think that’s what defines him the most. It’s not the core of him, it’s not the heart of him. It’s an aspect of him, a very important one but it’s not the be all and end all of his character or existence.

Which again is something we very rarely see from characters like Cassian who are built up to be great warriors and fighters. They’re so rarely allowed to have the raw emotion that Cassian has. They would so rarely be allowed to make an admission like this, to respond in this way to an act of selfless heroism. He doesn’t try and rationalise it for her or justify it or offer her glory or try and brush it off. He doesn’t pity her. He doesn’t condemn her. He doesn’t praise her. He just understands her.

This is a man of empathy. A man who looks at Feyre Cursebreaker, the girl they hero worship for the thing that makes her vomit her guts up every single night, the thing that torments her awake and asleep, the thing that makes her feel that ‘it should have been me’ and simply says ‘I know’.

Cassian understands this, understands her, because when history remembers them their legacy will not be cold sweats and fickle dreams. It will not be their grief and sadness for every death on every side. It will be as heroes. With no thought of the price of that heroism, the weight they carry, the blood they can never wash off. It will remember him as the army leader, one of the strongest Illyrians in history, the greatest warrior of his age. It will remember the people he killed. The great deeds he performed. The slaughter and the glory of the warrior incarnate. I hope it does not forget why. I hope it does not forget his heart.

Magickal Circles

Introduction:

Circles are powerful magickal constructs that can help power you’re working, and help you in your rituals, and spellcraft. These constructs can be constructed, and used in order to direct specific energies two specific places. By understanding the ins-and-outs of the magickal circles one can construct unique powerful designs that will incorporate metaphysical understandings, occult understandings, correspondences, associations, shapes, alphabets, glyphs, sigils, and words to create beautiful designs that will act as tools to help you direct energy in very specific ways. By incorporating all these things together a practitioner can allow these things to work in harmony, so that they can help manifest their will. The practitioner will need to learn how the different parts are connected to each other, and what they stand for in order to create powerful magickal circles. In this post we will be familiarizing ourselves with the different parts of the circle, and how they interact with the energies, so we can put them together in some form of a system that will help us in specific forms of magickal working.

The Main Circle(s):

The first thing we are going to talk about is the basic part of the circle which is the circle itself. Magickal circles are generally made with a main circle that goes around the center, that acts as the space in which the practitioner can move around, and interact with their working. The main circle is going to act as a doorway between the two worlds of the spiritual, and physical, and will be the place magick is performed from. This circle will represent the unity of the two worlds, and will also be the area where energy will gather, so that you can use it for your spell, or ritual. The circle is connected to the spiritual realms, and the higher planes of existences, and we’ll call energies down from the universe in order to help you, and your practice allowing you to raise a cone of power. Energy is going to pool and gather inside this main circle empowering you and the rest of the circle. The circle will also bring in feminine, and yin energies into your working, and will protect you from outside forces you do not wish to interact with while you are doing your practice. You can have more than one main in your design these will act as different levels in the overarching paradigm of your design.

Smaller Circles:

Other circles can be incorporated into your design, these will be treated like smaller versions of the main circle, and will be places for energy to pool, and to form their own cones of power. Inside the circles will be good places to put sigils, glyphs, names, and/or symbols, so that energy taken into the circles will be able to empower the symbol within. This will result in the energy inside the circle taking on the intent of the sigils, glyphs, names, and/or symbols allowing you to use that to affect your practice. If you have other practitioners helping you out in your practice, this could also be a spot for them to reside in to help you with your working instead of using some form of a sigil, glyph, name, and/or symbol. These circles will also provide protection for whatever resides within that circle just like the main ones do, and will also bring feminine, and yin energy into your circle.

Center:

The center is the middle point of your circle. This is a very important point, because it controls, and affects everything else in the circle. This is where the main intention, or the controller of the magical circle is placed. You are usually the controller of the circle, or you can put a sigil, glyph, name, and/or symbol in this place. Whatever is in the middle of the circle will act like the generator in a crystal grid, and will act as a conduit to the rest of the energy in the circle, so that it’s will can be acted out. The center will act in this way in middle of every single shape, so it is important to be aware of this. By understanding how to get the most out of the controlling center points of the shapes that exist within your design will greatly help you understand the energy flow through out your circle, and how it will empower your desire.

Squares:

Squares can also be incorporated into your design to help empower your practice. They will bring forth the energies of the elements, and directions along with the masculine, and yang energy that the square embodies. The square is also connected to the physical world, and when the square is brought together with the circle the square supports, and fortifies it empowering the circle, and creates perfect balance with its female, and yin energy. This will create a good balance in your circle, and will allow your circle to represent duality. You could also put a sigil, glyph, name, and/or symbol inside the square.  that would give whatever is inside stable, balanced, and grounded energies that it can use to fortify and support itself, so it can do its job more effectively, and use the energy of the four elements, and four cardinal directions to help it in it’s working.

Cross:

The cross just like the square is also connected to the four elements, but is instead connected to the five directions (the five directions include center as the 5th direction). The cross is also connected to choice, hope, balance, masculinity, physicality, sun, life and yang energy. The cross in magickal circles will direct energy to the center, and will compartmentalize other energies into the four slots that it creates. The cross can be a tricky thing to incorporate into some circles, but when used right it can be very effective.

Triangle:

The energies of the triangle can be brought into your design of your magical circle. These triangles will stand for, and will be greatly connected to creation, and manifestation. Triangles are used primarily in circles to create, manifest, or call a specific energy into the circle, so that you can work with it. The triangle is also connected to the balance between the trinities, and will bring balance of those energies in to your magickal circle. Triangles have both masculine, and feminine energies , and yin, and yang energies depending upon which way they are facing. An upright triangle is a triangle that manifests things to you, while the inverted triangle is one that manifests your desires upon the external world. The upright triangle is the one who embodies the feminine, and yin energies, while the inverted triangle is the one who embodies the masculine, and yang energies. Upright, and inverted will be decided upon the triangles relativity to the center of the circle. These are also used as the places to summon entities through invocation, and evocation. The traditional version of a evocation triangle is call the triangle of art. Triangle of arts are upright because it is used to manifest entities to you. When the triangle is used for evocation it is put outside the circle in order to give the practitioner some protection, and space in between them, and the entity. These triangles usually have names of powerful spirits or deities around them to act as a form of binding, so that the practitioner can control, and worked with the entity safely. These triangles also usually have circles inside them to allow the entity to have its own space that will be in between  the physical, and the spiritual worlds, and will also allow them to build up more energy to help you in you’re working. Depending upon where your triangles are placed will communicate, if yours magick circle is a evocative circle, or invocative Circle. Triangles can be very useful when trying to manifest constructs, and will be very important tools to incorporate into your magical circles.

Lines, And Curved Lines:

Lines, and curves are used to combine two points, so that their energies can directly interact with each other. Lines represent the masculinity and yang energy, while curved lines represent feminine, and yin energy. Lines, and curved lines also stand for the energy of balance, and duality. When two constructs are connected with a line, or curve the two points, become the two extremes on a polarity spectrum with a line in the middle representing the space in between those two energies. These lines, and curved lines will also be used to move energy through out your circle. This is done, because energy will take these lines as paths to follow, and a physical mark of your intention, so the energy will enjoy moving on these lines like the water in a river. These lines, and curved lines will take on the energy around them, or that interacts with them, so by writing symbols, names, and/or glyphs under, above, and/or near will Infuse those lines with that type of energy, given that line its properties, associations, and magical correspondences allowing it to flow throughout the circle. It is important to remember that these lines, and curved lines make up all shapes that will be used in the magickal circle. This will truly apply to any place within the circle and must be kept in mind, so you can use it effectively to empower your working.

Pentagram, and Pentacle / Inverted Pentagram, And Inverted Pentacle:

The pentagram, and pentacle along with the inverted version of both of these can be brought into the design of your circle to bring in energies of power, protection, connection to the five western elements, and connection to the wu-xing (the five phases). These will greatly empower your circles by allowing the energies they produced to run throughout it in order to charge, and power your working. Depending upon what you are doing with your circle will determine whether you will want to include upright pentagrams, or inverted pentagrams, or you might even try to include both of them. Whether it is a inverted, and upright pentagram, or pentacle will depend on its relativity to the center of the circle. Using the upright pentagram would bring the energies of the external, feminine, yin, and spiritual world to help you in you’re working, while using the inverted pentagram would bring the energies of the internal, masculine, yang, and  physical world to help you in you’re working. The Inverted pentagram is a lot more connected to the self, where the upright pentagram were connected to the collective, both are very wonderful symbols and can help you out on in creating your own magick circle. Simply by adding a circle around the pentagram, it will become the pentacle. inverted, or upright the circle of the pentacle will add energies of unity, and protection to the already existing power of the pentagram, but it is up to you to decide when to use which.

Hexagram:

Another wonderful shape that you can bring into your magickal circle creation would be the hexagram. The hexagram is made when an upright triangle, and an inverted triangle meet to form the shape, because of this the hexagon shares correspondences with both triangles, and is also made out of masculine, and feminine energies, and yin, and yang energies. The hexagram also corresponds to the four elements and the Trinity because of the triangles that is made out of. The hexagram is also connected to the planetary energies, and  is also connected to the western four elements. Due to the fact the hexagram is made of the connection of the two triangles it is connected to both external, and internal manifestation, which makes it a good tool to have in magick circles that are related to invocation, and evocation.

Sigils, Glyphs, Names, And Symbols

Sigils, glyphs, names, and symbols are going to be powerful tools that will help you in the creation of your own magickal circle. All of these constructs have energies that are going to be used in order to empower, and guide you’re working towards your desire. Every one of these sigils, glyphs, names, and symbols is going to have its own correspondences, energies, and associations that will add different effects based on which one you choose, and how you choose to implemented into your circle. These can be taken from anywhere, or even created. This will not only personalize your circle, but will also provide energies that will be helpful with specific rituals, and practices. you can also choose to incorporate names of specific entities in order to invoke them to your ritual to help you accomplish your desires through the use of the circle.  All you would need to do is to write an entity’s name in, around, or near a specific aspect, or shape to connect their energies to that construct, so that their energies can help out your circle to manifest your desires. Their energy will usually show up to help you out, if they are willing to help you in your endeavors. Any surface that is blank in your magickal circle can be filled with some form of sigils, glyphs, names, and symbols to empower that specific part of the circle to represent a specific energy. By learning how these energies interact with each other, and work together to form one common goal the practitioner can craft a very effective circle in order to help them out with specific intents. Any shape that surrounds, or is near these sigils, glyphs, names, and symbols will be influenced by their energy.

Conclusion:

Learning all of these elements of the circle will allow you to bring all these aspects together in perfect harmony to create a magical circle, that will be good for the workings that you want to do. It is a very creative, and magickal process that will push the extent of your metaphysical, and occult knowledge. But, through the creation of a magickal circle you will greatly be able to empower you working, and to better your magical effectiveness.

Charmed circle squad (including Milla & Nessa) headcanon heights? Or at least height order?

The height of the Charmed Circle squad is actually very genuinely important for me, so thank you for giving me a chance to talk about it.

Pfannee: 4'7. Sometimes she wears her hair in a high poof just so it looks like she’s 4'9.

Boq: 4'9. He gets very sad when Pfannee has her hair in the poof.

Galinda: 4'11. I always pretty much just picture her as Kristen Chenoweth, after all.

Nessa: 5'2.

Milla: 5'5.

Crope: 5'8.

Tibbet: 5'9. He likes to jokingly brag that he’s taller than Crope, but, like, dude, come on, you’re about half and inch taller than him.

Shenshen: 5'11. She also casually wears six inch heels to class almost everyday and honestly? step on me.

Avaric: 5'11. Please never mention that he’s shorter than Elphaba and the same height of Shenshen, and never mention that he’s not technically 6'0. It’ll either end with him punching you or him crying.

Elphaba: 6'2. She’s tall and lanky and a little bit scary but mostly Galinda likes it because it means Elphaba is the natural big spoon. (con: Elphaba once held Galinda’s hair brush above her head for a few minutes and it was horriblified because Galinda couldn’t get it back until Elphaba lowered her arm).

Fiyero: 6'4. Goodnight, my sweet and tall prince.

Ignis is usually careful about parking, usually he doesn’t slap the royal pass under the wipers and leave the meter maid to deal with the fact that he’s left the car partially in a fire lane. Usually he is also not on the receiving end of texts from Noctis that leave him questioning the immediate health and safety of the Prince. Or the Prince’s best friend.

Ignis thinks, as he rushes up the walk in a still very unruffled seeming way, that he needs to evaluate some things, because he knows if Noctis was the one he’d been texted about he probably still would’ve bothered to take time parking. Prompto though…Prompto had found the softest spot in his heart and made a home, slotting himself in somewhere between Ignis’ exasperated affection for Noctis and warm love for Gladiolus.

I saw the ask post where you admitted to being a straight white male, and apologized for being one. You shouldn't apologize for being who you are, and it makes me sad that you feel the need to.

Ok, I’ve gotten a couple different messages about this, so I just wanna clear the air. I was being facetious. I’m not actually sorry for being randomly born with a certain skin color.

And I don’t accept responsibility for things that other people with my same skin color have done. No more than I blame all people of a race/religion for something that someone in their group has done. I understand that it’s simpler to get mad at an entire group of people, because your group wants to hate them. Belonging to a social circle is incredibly important to human beings, BUT…life isn’t that simple. We’re going to have to learn to untangle the intricacies of the human personality one deeply flawed, and beautifully complex person at a time. It’s not easy, but nothing great in life ever is.

Frederick? Is it hard for you to relate to those who have not been in the military service? I know I am having this issue for a while now. I do tend to have nightmares from my times at war but my family told me to 'pray it away'. Obviously this is useless to me but I was wonder what words of advice you have for a former soldier who must adjust to civilian life.

“Well, yes, good stranger… I suppose it can be. Be it during simple resupply stops in town or during times of peace, I occasionally feel as if an ocean separates me from the ordinary civilian. They go about their lives so… regularly. They have hopes, concerns, and fears, but so few of these things are relevant to me or what I have experienced that I often feel as though I am watching them from another world.”

“The worst of these feelings came to me after my first taste of war. The kingdom I came home to seemed like a bitter memory of what I remembered it as, and I felt adrift for a long while. Ordinary people going about their lives as they do confused me, and I was filled with such alienation. My dreams were filled with the things I had done and horrors I had been put through, and my mother feared I would never recover. It was during this time that she and I decided that I needed to find some purpose in my life again.

With what remained of my family’s prestige, I ended up securing a position as a guardsman in Castle Ylisse and came to know of our new ruler a bit better. Some said Her Grace was the demon seed of her wicked father, others said she was an incarnation of Naga… but when I first met her, I came to see that she was simply another wayward child whose life had been torn asunder by war. Unlike me, however, she saw beyond her own personal plight to better the realm. In time, it became my desire to help her. Nearly a decade and a half later, and here I am.”

“I suppose what it all boils down to is a matter of finding your next mission. I cannot say that a soldier can ever truly adjust to a civilian’s life, good stranger, as few things are ever so simple. What I can say, however, is that there is always good work to be done, and few people know that so well as a soldier does. The painful past may muddle itself with your present from time to time, but the future is yours to decide. Fight the good fight, look out for your fellow man (be they soldier or civilian), and try to live with purpose. Do all of that, and I believe the rest shall come in time.”

The Letter

First of all, I got this idea from the book To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before. I read the whole thing this weekend. The book itself was good, nothing life-altering, but I LOVED the concept of it. Second, this is set next weekend (April 8th/9th) when James is racing in Long Beach (very close to LA). Third, this is way longer than most things I write, but I couldn’t not post the whole thing at once. Fourth, you’re welcome and I’m sorry.

It was James’ idea.

Sunday night. Just you and me. Reminiscing and what not.

Sharna smiled when she saw his message. She knew he would be in the area over the weekend and had hoped she would get a chance to see him.

Will you have time? she sent back. She didn’t want to take him away from his own things.

As long as I don’t impale myself on a piece of the car, I’ll be free later that night.

Not funny.

A little funny. So what do you say?

Deal. My place. What time? Camera blocking during the day, but I can get away later for a special occasion.

You flatter me. Maybe like 9ish. Is that too late?

Not at all. 9ish it is.

I’ll keep you updated on my circles.

Sharna laughed. This had become an inside joke with them very early on when she confessed to him that she had never really gotten into racing. “It’s just… circles,” she told him apologetically. But he laughed at this and told her he would only ever call it that again.

Drive safe.

Hi, can you write one about how each of bughead's friends keep doubting their feelings/relationship, but each and every time they keep proving them wrong? Thank you for your time in writing!

Yes! I love this. This one is for all the doubters out there!

Archie thought that Jughead and Betty were confusing a close friendship with liking each other.

When Archie first found out that Jughead and Betty were seeing each other he was in shock. He had never seen this coming and he honestly couldn’t imagine them together. He couldn’t picture the two of them together any more than he could picture himself dating Betty. The three of them had been friends for so long, how could that possibly have changed?

Archie didn’t think that it would last. He was sure that Betty and Jughead would realize that they were better off as friends, after all they were weren’t they? Betty and Jughead were the best of friends, but Archie wasn’t so sure that could translate into a relationship.

High school was a confusing time and dating was even more confusing, Archie knew that firsthand. Maybe Jughead and Betty were confusing their feelings of friendship with something else. Maybe they really wanted to be in a relationship so they were forcing their feelings. Or maybe dating each other seemed like the safest choice in the crazy world of teenage dating.

Whatever the reason was, Archie was sure it wasn’t because they actually had fallen for each other.

At least that is what he thought until he saw them one day at Pop’s. Archie was about to walk in when he caught a glimpse of them through the window. They were completely absorbed in one another and didn’t notice him, but he noticed them.

Archie noticed the way that Jughead was smiling, brighter than he had ever seen his friend smile.

He noticed how Betty was laughing in pure joy at something Jughead had said. Betty was always happy, but sitting there with Jughead, she looked radiant.

Archie noticed how animated Jughead was and how he was using one hand to gesture wildly while the other held Betty’s on the table.

He noticed how both of them were looking at each other, like they were the only two people in the world.

Archie turned around and walked away. He had been wrong, so wrong. He knew now that what Betty and Jughead felt for each other was the real deal.

Veronica thought that Betty was using Jughead to make Archie jealous.

After all, the two started “dating” pretty quickly after Betty was turned down by Archie. Betty had claimed to have gotten over him, but Veronica had seen the way that Betty looked at him when he wasn’t looking.

Then, there suddenly was Jughead. Out of nowhere, Betty was hanging out with him instead of Archie and Veronica. She had suspected that Betty was avoiding them because she was still sensitive about all that had happened. So naturally, Veronica was skeptical when Betty and Jughead had shown up holding hands.

It clearly bothered Archie, so Veronica figured that their relationship had served its purpose. She was on her way right now to confront Betty about it and put this crazy scheme to an end.

Betty’s mom answered the door and gestured upstairs with a disapproving look on her face when Veronica asked for Betty. Ignoring her friend’s mom’s dislike of her, she headed upstairs. She was about to knock on the door when she heard Betty talking inside.

“I don’t know Jug, maybe we made a mistake, this just feels wrong…” Veronica froze at the words. Nice of Betty’s mom to let her know that Jughead was hear too. Veronica leaned forward to listen, but when Betty spoke again she realized that she must be on the phone. “No, not us Jughead. Of course not us, that’s the only thing that feels right. What I meant was maybe we made a mistake in telling our friends, you have to admit that they have all been acting weird since we told them…”

“Damn” Veronica whispered under hear breath as what Betty was saying sunk in. There was a long silence, Veronica wished that she could hear what Jughead was saying to Betty. All she knew was that when Betty spoke again, her voice was considerably happier.

“I really like you, you know that….how do you always know what to say to make me feel better?” There was another pause and then Betty’s laugh rang out from inside the door. “I take it back, I hate you.” Veronica found herself smiling despite herself. She had been so caught up in thinking that their relationship was fake that she never stopped to actually look at their relationship. Now she could see how good they were for each other.

Jughead was always there for Betty, and apparently he was good at comforting her when she needed it. In turn, Veronica thought that Betty was bringing Jughead out of his book and into the real world. Thinking back she realized that Jughead had certainly been a lot more present since he and Betty had started dating.

With a smile, Veronica knocked on the door, determined to make sure that Betty knew that she and Jughead had her blessing.

“Juggie, someone’s here I have to go. I love you too.”

Kevin thought that Jughead wasn’t good enough for Betty. It was nothing against Jughead really, he just thought that Betty was too nice and sweet and Jughead was well…Jughead.

Jughead was an outsider, frequently by choice. He liked to be alone, he was sarcastic and moody. Betty was the exact opposite. She was always so present and she shone like a sunbeam.

Betty needed someone that would appreciate and nurture that light inside of her, not dampen it.

Betty seemed happy enough with Jughead, but Kevin thought that maybe she was choosing to ignore his flaws. Every time Jughead said something sarcastic or teased Betty, Kevin wanted to explode.

Finally having enough, he slid into Jughead’s booth one night, determined to figure out how the boy really felt about Betty.

“What’s up man?” Jughead barely looked up from his laptop. If he was surprised to see that Kevin was sitting with him, he didn’t show it.

“I…um” Kevin hesitated, trying to find the right words. Jughead looked up at him, concern showing in his eyes.

“Is Betty okay?”

“Yes, she’s fine” Kevin assured him, watching as Jughead’s posture relaxed. So, Jughead really did care about Betty, that was a point for him, but Kevin still wasn’t convinced. “She’s actually what I came here to talk to you about.”

“I’ve been meaning to talk to you too.” Jughead replied

“Really?” That stopped Kevin in his tracks

“Yes, you and I don’t know each other very well. We’ve both known Betty for a while, but we run in different circles. But you are important to her, I can tell. And I want to get to know you better, because any friend of Betty’s is a friend of mine.”

“I…I would like that” Kevin could barely get the words out he was so shocked. This was not at all how he thought the conversation would go. This was a new side to Jughead that he had never seen before. An honest, caring side. Maybe this is what Betty saw all of the time.

“Also, know that I really care about Betty, and I will do right by her. I also already got the scary dad intimidation speech from Veronica, so you don’t need to bother with that. Veronica is…terrifying, but I don’t need her threats. I will never do anything to hurt Betty.” Jughead said seriously. Kevin smiled, he couldn’t believe how transparent he had been. Jughead probably had known why he was there from the moment he had sat down, but he had played along and made an effort to convince Kevin that he was worthy of Betty.

“You know, I’m beginning to see what Betty sees in you.” Kevin said

“Well, if you figure it out let me know. I’ve been trying to figure out why she choose me of all people and nothing makes sense.” Jughead said it as a joke, but his smile didn’t quite reach his eyes.

“It’s because you are nice.” Kevin found himself wanting to reassure Jughead.

“Excuse me?” Jughead looked utterly offended

“You try to hide it behind indifference and that rough exterior, but I see you Jughead. Underneath you are really just a nice, sweet, caring person. Just like Betty. I’ve seen it, and there’s nothing you can do to convince me otherwise.” Kevin said with a grin.

“Then, I guess I’m just going to have to kill you.” Jughead smiled back, “I can’t have you exposing my secret.”

“I’d like to see you try” Kevin said with a laugh, marveling at the turn of the conversation. Jughead really was a completely different person once you took the time to get to know him. Kevin, like the rest of the school had written him off as an antisocial freak. But Betty, sweet Betty, had taken the time that others hadn’t.

Maybe they were perfect for each other and maybe they weren’t, but Kevin saw now that they were more alike than he thought. Betty had gotten to know Jughead and had liked what she had seen. The least Kevin could do was give him a chance.

Thanks for reading! Send me a Bughead prompt and I’ll write a drabble!

But here’s an interesting way to look at that risk. Let’s say that Diane, who is truly uninfected (ie, HSV-2 seronegative), meets Bob who has HSV-2. Bob tells Diane about his infection. He offers to use condoms every time they have sex, take daily antiviral therapy, and agrees to try to be aware of any symptoms that may signal the beginning of an outbreak. Diane says that she just can’t handle any risk, even though she really likes Bob. So she says goodbye and moves on. Then she meets Bill. She asks him right away whether he has herpes because now she’s really worried about getting infected. He replies that he’s “not that kind of guy” and is certain that he is not infected, only he really is (as approximately 1 in 4 adults are) but doesn’t know it. Now we know that Bill is shedding virus at the same rate as Bob, but because he is unaware of his infection and doing nothing about it, he is more likely to infect Diane than Bob ever was. But Diane likes Bill’s answer. She has sex with him with birth control pills instead of condoms, and within 2 months is infected with HSV-2. She’s the one sitting in your exam room, waiting for the news. And the circle continues.

What we can see is that the circle is an important topos in Wings and in The Owl Service. In TOS it is the hole of the Llech Rown (click the link to read the myth), and we could say it rappresents a weakness, because the point were the spear that killed Gonw passed throught the rock. All the different circolar Wings logos at the end of the short films rappresent a weakness too, the one mentioned in the solo songs of each member.
