cs au. ‘there’s something about breaking an engagement and leaving the man you thought you were going to spend the rest of your life with and finding yourself roommate-ing with the man who’s loved you through years and boyfriends and breakups and uncertainties that makes a person a little weepy, a little off balance, a little unsure.’
(i’ve been working on this for at least six weeks, and it’s finally, finally finished, and i’m something like pleased with it. (thanks to swallowedsong for looking over it and helping me and stuff.) so, enjoy whatever this is. (really long, among other things. just a head’s up.)
Packs up her share of the apartment instead of going to work, keeps Henry home from school so he can help. Wraps picture frames in scarves and sweaters, shoves books and DVDs into boxes, throws pots and pans and casserole dishes into the back seat. One trip to unload these small bits, another for Henry’s bed and dresser and nightstand.
It takes just over 6 hours to remove every trace of them from this apartment that was supposed to be theirs and is now just his, but she doesn’t cry as she sweeps through one last time. As she takes her key off the chain, locking the door behind her and slipping it underneath. She doesn’t feel broken or empty. Isn’t sure what it is pulsing through her, something that tastes like regret or maybe failure.
“Sorry, kid,” she says, eyes still dry, once they reach the car. He just shrugs. Smiles a small, sad thing.
this day in 1881, the Russian Tsar Alexander II was assassinated in St.
Petersburg aged 62. He had ascended to the Russian throne in 1855 after
the death of his father Tsar Nicholas I during the Crimean War. Decades before the Bolshevik communist revolution would successfully
overthrow the Russian monarchy under Alexander’s grandson Nicholas II,
there was already a significant anti-tsarist movement in Russia. While
Alexander had initiated some liberal and modernising reforms - including
the abolition of serfdom in 1861 and the expansion of the nation’s
railroads - he had brutally repressed political dissidents. In 1879, a
group called the People’s Will was organised and began their attempts to
violently overthrow the Tsar. After waging a prolonged campaign in
which they assassinated government officials and made attempts on the
Tsar’s life, the movement was finally successful in killing Alexander in
1881. The Tsar was killed in St. Petersburg after two bombs were thrown
at his carriage by Nikolai Rysakov and Ignacy Hryniewiecki, who were
members of the People’s Will. He was succeeded by his son Tsar Alexander
III, who punished the people and group behind his father’s
assassination. In 1883, work began on the Church of the Savior on
Blood, which was built on the spot of Alexander’s assassination and
dedicated to his memory.
“Amid the smoke and snowy fog, I heard His Majesty’s weak voice cry, ‘Help!’ Gathering
what strength I had, I jumped up and rushed to the emperor. His Majesty
was half-lying, half-sitting, leaning on his right arm. Thinking he was
merely wounded heavily, I tried to lift him but the
czar’s legs were shattered, and the blood poured out of them“ - Police chief Dvorzhitsky’s account of the assassination
Mary “has a right to be loved as Queen of all hearts so that through her, hearts would be cleansed and themselves become immaculate, similar and like unto her own heart, and so worthy of union with God.”
St. Maximilian Kolbe
“Prayer is powerful beyond limits when we turn to the Immaculata who is queen even of God’s heart.”
St. Maximilian Kolbe
Did anyone else see the similarities between this scene last night, and the famous “Last Supper” painting? Emma is in the center as ‘the Savior.’ Interesting to me, is that Hook is in Saint John’s position. Years ago (end of season 2), I posted that Killian means “Church of Saint John.” John was the ‘beloved of the Savior,’ so I predicted that they’d end up being deeply connected (and here he is as her husband!)
Interestingly, Saint John has the distinction of being one of the original disciples who was not killed. Certainly interesting given that Hook is one of the only original cast coming back next season.
