This video shows a before-and-after comparison of a shot in my Sliding on Things Down the Snow video. In the raw video, you’re only hearing the audio that came off of the GoPro strapped to my chest. In the finished video, I’ve done some foley work to make sure that you’re hearing (or feeling, if you’ve got a subwoofer) everything that you’re seeing on-screen.
The sounds of snow particles flying around are actually little strips of paper that I pulled out of my paper shredder and dropped directly onto my microphone, then slowed and pitched-down a bit. Various snow impact sounds are slowed-down recordings of me dropping heavy things into a mostly-full garbage can, and the sliding-on-the-snow sounds are slowed-down recordings of me dragging heavy cardboard box across the concrete on my balcony.
My recordings are EQ’d and filtered, then mixed together, along with a track of ambient audio of some birds chirping in a snowy forest. Magic!
