Ten Cents a Dance is about “taxi dancing” in the 1940s, where girls dance with men for money. Ruby is an 18 year-old taxi dancer who lies to her mother about working as one. As time goes on, Ruby starts seeing the darker side of working there.
This is an enjoyable, interesting book for someone like me who is interested in that time period. You get to feel Ruby’s emotions after a while of reading through the obstacles she faces while trying to earn money. While it did take me a while to get into the book, it definitely turned out to be better than I expected.
