christina is not people

“The provocative title is hard to ignore,” says reviewer Silvia Viñas, “and so is the book’s cover.”

Seen from afar, it appears to be called Why I’m No Longer Talking About Race, which is intriguing enough on its own. You have to look closer to see To White People hiding underneath it in debossed letters. It’s a striking visual representation of white people’s blindness to everyday, structural racism — one of the central ideas that British journalist and feminist Reni Eddo-Lodge presents in her debut collection of essays.

'When you’re black you have to fight': Tinashe, Kehlani and other female R&B artists struggle for attention
Only three black women have topped the charts in the past 10 years. Here's why.
By Gerrick D. Kennedy

Three years ago, all the signs pointed one way: Tinashe was on her way to pop stardom.

In 2012, when she was just 19, she produced two critically acclaimed mixtapes that landed her a deal at RCA. A year later her debut single, “2 On,” made it to No. 24 on Billboard’s Hot 100. Her 2014 debut album, “Aquarius,” was met with critical acclaim and she was nominated for a BET Award.

Since then, the singer-songwriter has toured with Nicki Minaj and Katy Perry, collaborated with Britney Spears, earned praise from idol Janet Jackson and issued two buzzy projects, including last year’s digital-only work “Nightride.”

Yet Tinashe’s career has hit an impasse.

Nearly two years after it was announced to much hype, RCA has yet to release her long-gestating sophomore album, “Joyride.” As a string of genre-hopping singles and collaborations with artists like Spears, Chris Brown and Young Thug failed to produce a major hit, “Joyride” and her young career have stalled.

Attempting a restart, she has learned many things: that pop hits speak louder than reviews, only crossover stars make real money and being a black female performer comes with inherent challenges.

“Critical acclaim hasn’t been enough in my experience,” said the 24-year-old, who was born Tinashe Kachingwe. “The label appreciates it, but the music business, in my perspective, is still so much based on revenue and how much they are making in sales. That’s where it gets really [crappy].”

“You just want to make art for the sake of art,” she continued, “and not have people [care] about a number, first-week sales or things like that.”

So I get it what happened was scary but he's in mexico which is so far away from the UK I feel like he's taking this way too personally considering the chances of anything happening to him are basically at zero. He should have taken this time to bring positivity not to cry the entire time and rush through songs or he should have just cancelled.

It doesn’t matter that he is in Mexico and the attack happened in the UK. People naturally are going to be fearful for a while. I’m not sure if Harry actually is afraid for his safety right now, I would hope not. But just like what happened with Christina Grimmie, people are going to be on edge and thinking about what might be coming next. You can’t blame Harry for that.

If Harry is emotional after a tragedy, let him be emotional. He, like many people from the UK and around the world, are still mourning. He has worked personally with Ariana and given her a song before. A lot of her fans are also fans of the boys. We already know one of the girls that has passed away was a huge fan of louis especially. Manchester is where Harry grew up because it was so close to Cheshire and that’s where people his age could go see concerts and hang out. Harry and the boys have played shows in Manchester. Manchester and the fans there mean a lot to him.

There are so many reasons Harry can be taking this especially hard, and for you to tell him how you think he should be acting is so ridiculous. He tried his best to bring positivity by saying be a lover. He tried to bring positivity by doing a show where all proceeds go to charity. He tried to bring positivity by singing his songs and performing even when he would probably rather be home with his family.

And it’s funny that you say he should have cancelled because I know if he did, people like you would be down his throat for it. Talking about how he’s selfish and the show was or charity and he should have just done the show anyway. Harry did his best tonight and put as much emotion and love into the show as he possibly could have and honestly fuck you for trying to twist this into something negative where Harry didn’t do a good enough job.

tl;dr Harry tried his best which was more than anyone should be asking for right now and we should be grateful he is safe and able to still do shows where donations are made to charity. Harry has such a big heart, I’m sorry you don’t understand that concept.

Submission from Christina, with a continuation from me :)

Harry and Ron’s relationship undergoes a rocky period when George finally starts to kind of treat Ron as an equal.

Without Fred, George is able to see that Ron’s wit and imagination is on par with his own. They work together, so they spend the most time together. George stops picking on him so much and they begin to banter and conspire the way he and his twin used to (almost).

Ron, who’d wanted the twins’ approval his whole life, is thrilled. (Thanks, Christina, I love this and I’m super glad to continue it!) He is finally, as he sees it, an adult in the eyes of his now-favorite brother.

As an Auror, Ron had spent nearly every day with Harry, but once he began working full time at the Wheezes (and he calls it for short), he and Harry carved out their own time to see each other. Monday nights with all the kids, and Friday nights without, gave them ample time to hang out and talk about their new lives.

Monday nights, the nights Ron took Rose and Hugo - five and seven - to the Potter house to play with their cousins and to give their Mum a break and a chance to get organized for the week ahead, were the first to go, once George asked Ron to a “collab session” with “the team” every Monday.

Harry held back his hurt. It seemed so perfect for Ron - finally using his creativity, and working with his hands the way he’d loved as an Auror. How could Harry - who had taken so much from him since they were children - possibly object? He takes his niece and nephew anyway, oversees the playdates by himself, unsure what it is inside of him that hurts.

He begins to orient his weeks around Friday nights with Ron. The conversation used to flow naturally, a good-natured ribbing about their respective jobs, their respective wives. Real conversation about their kids. Fun stories from work. Reminiscing, still trying to fit pieces from their childhood together. Since he’d gone back to the Wheezes, though, the talk about work became talk about George. The fun stories were always about George. The talk about their childhood was oriented towards Ron’s feelings of inadequacy against his brothers and how that had all changed, now that he was close with George.

Harry, displaced and untethered without his friendship with his favorite person - finds himself disappearing in their conversation. When Ron invites George along to their favorite Friday night pub, Harry can’t even find the words to object. He feels as if he’s been uprooted from his life - as the man who’s best friends with Ron Weasley - and given some poor substitute for himself.

It fades, as these things do, and things went more or less back to normal, after Hermione confronted them both and explained to Ron why what he was doing was wrong. But it would be years before Harry felt safe his place in the world again.

I'm just wondering if I'm the only one who was super annoyed that when Kim asked Chloe to dance, even though she didn't want to dance with him, she said yes to be "nice." I think that's such a gross thing to teach kids. Chloe's first response was extremely rude, but they should have had her then apologize and just say "Thank you for asking, but no I don't want to dance." That's a perfectly valid response. Girls shouldn't think they're a bitch for wanting to say no to a guy!

I agree that girls shouldn’t be taught that saying no to a guy is mean. I definitely, 100% agree. But I do think that if Chloe considers saying yes to be the nice option in this case, it’s her choice to say yes. Like you pointed out, she could have just refused nicely. And she still chose to say yes instead. That’s on Chloe. I think it’s a minor enough scenario that parents could easily explain to their daughters that this sort of yes is okay but not necessary, and that there are some situations where they are encouraged to politely (or not so politely, as the case may be) say no instead.

I do also think, though, that Chloe needed to take her status as the party host into account. It’s kind of rude for someone to invite people over for a party and then not spend time or hang out with their guests. Until Kim invited her to dance, she was sitting at the bar more or less ignoring everyone, which is really poor hosting etiquette. So for a party host, saying yes to a dance might have been the better option.

The truth is this – human hate can adapt to anything. You think you are safe. But if someone hates you, they will come up with the reason after the fact. (from Years of Future Past #2, written by Marguerite Bennett, 2015)

X-Men comics are fantastic. This is powerful.

In Loving Memory Of Christina Grimmie

❝ My goal, in my career is to inspire people,
to get my music people out there and have people
enjoy it and really think of me as an inspirational artist.❞

Christina Grimmie was taken from all of us far too soon, but the impact she had on this world in the short 22 years of her life will carry on forever.
