Jen and I took a little trip up to Petaluma area for some BBQ eats and then a visit to Chilleno Valley Ranch, a primarily grass-fed cattle ranch, but our purpose was to pick some apples in their organic u-pick orchard.

We took a little tour around their grounds — California still never ceases to amaze in that respect — stark, warm, and dry but with bits of green here and there. It was only and hour and a half from San Francisco, but environments and terrain change quickly.

Their apple orchard is small, but there was plenty enough for us to pick at, given that the season for some of the apple types had ended. The resident animals were gracious, and friendly — the cows in particular, happy to eat small apples and cores out of our hands.

It’s a great mellow day in god’s country that’ll do one good.
