Witch Bottle/Jar for Protection

Witch bottles have a super interesting history surrounding them, and are very effective at trapping nasties, whether it be curses aimed at you, evil spirits, etc. So let’s make one, shall we?

  1. Get a jar.
  2. Put pointy things in the jar. Nails, pins, needles, thumbtacks, whatever’s handy. The purpose of this is probably obvious, to inflict harm on the Bad Thing.
  3. Put booze in the jar. I’m not 100% sure why, maybe it’s meant to entice the Bad Thing closer? But it’s a traditional ingredient, and I include it. I use gin, but wine is more traditional.
  4. Add spicy things, hot sauce, chili peppers, cayenne. Again, painful for the Bad Thing.
  5. Add a part of yourself. A lock of hair, fingernail clippings, spit, and blood are most common(obvs if you’re going to use blood, be safe). This is to tie the jar to you. The idea here is to attract Bad Things meant for you.
  6. Seal the jar well(wax is encouraged).
  7. Shake the jar while programming it. You can either invoke the jar to simply trap the Bad Thing, or return to sender.
  8. Either bury the jar or put it somewhere dark and out of the way. I put mine in my bookshelf until I no longer felt an evil presence following me, and now I plan to bury it.

“And then in 1998 I rejoined the Chili Peppers, after being to the hospital first for the detox. I was there for three months and watched movies. Then I was fit and joined the Chili Peppers again. Since then I’m happier than ever in my life. If there’s a problem in the band today, we talk about it openly, so that nobody’s mad at somebody else. We appreciate each other and would do anything to not ruin our relationship. That was different in former times. That’s the reason why it’s important today, that we get along well because we value each other not only as band mates but also as people.”

Those hippies are on to something…

Seriously look at your local health food store for hard to find magical herbs. Usually they’ll have a bulk herb section with really amazing prices. The most expensive herb here, were the rose buds at 5.99 and it’s a huge bag that will last me a while. Everything else was 1.99 with the little badia spices being 58c each. The chilies 2.10 but again will last a while. But the sheer size and selection is astounding. At my local witch shop these herbs would be in small jewelry bags and priced at 3.49 (if I’m lucky). I’m all about supporting pagan business but I’m not going to be stupid about it. A witch on a budget has needs.

honey ginger corn salad

keeping fresh veggies/fruit on hand is such a pain, produce is expensive and I hate trying to keep half a dozen things on hand for salads because it takes forever to cut stuff up and half the veggies go bad on me before I get around to using them. lately this has been my solution:

-equal parts honey, vinegar and oil to make ¼ cup

(I love white wine vinegar and olive oil but honestly whatever you have on hand)

-1 teaspoon of ginger powder

-¼ teaspoon ground black pepper

-(I sometimes used basil, curry, chili powder, again whatever spices you prefer)

two handfuls of any lettuce/salad mix

½ cup frozen corn

¼ cup shredded cheese

(your choice, or just leave it off if dairy is an issue!)

handful of toasted nuts and/or dried fruit

and just mix it all together! I usually heat up the corn a little so it’s closer to room temperature and I always keep nuts in the freezer so they don’t go rancid as well as a big bag of shredded cheese so it’s ready to go without the annoyance of grating it! if you like you can put the nuts in a toaster and/or grind them in a coffee grinder to chop them up.

I love being able to do this in less than 5 minutes without leaving a bunch of dishes behind, plus if you DO have more conventional salad veggies in the fridge then it’s always a treat to add them :)

So I was talking to this girl, and it was laid out very specifically that I was here for friendship only. Thinking we were cool, I wound up going to her house to watch American Horror Story (we had bonded over it for like, half an hour at the coffee shop)

We were hanging out, relaxing, and she starts making chili. Holy shit, chili smelled so amazing. As it’s on the stove, we’re watching the show, and she starts trying to kiss me. I’m all thinking “ugh, I just wanna watch Evan Peters goddamn” but I’m afraid I won’t get chili so I go with it.

Eventually later in the day, as I’m eating delicious meaty stew, she starts having this long, dragged out fight with her dementia-riddled father over his excessive weed use and their rent situation.

Needless to say, I never hung out with her again.

Chili was worth it though.
