PEDRO PASCAL (born April 2, 1975) is a Chilean-born American actor. He is best known for portraying the roles of Oberyn Martell in the fourth season of the HBO series Game of Thrones and Javier Peña in the Netflix series Narcos. (Quoted from

Director Pablo Larraín is teaming up with actors Gael García Bernal and Luis Gnecco in a movie that will follow Chilean poet Pablo Neruda’s life from 1946 to 1948. “Neruda” will feature a period in the poet’s life where he joined the Communist Party, later became a senator who was against the imprisonment of striking miners, for which he was threatened with arrest and became a fugitive. The film will be a follow up to Larraín’s Berlin Grand Jury Prize winner “The Club.”

García Bernal will play Neruda’s nemesis at the time, Inspector Oscar Peluchoneau.

They’re making a movie abt the Chilean miners that got trapped in that mine back in 2010 but they got Antonio Banderas to play the lead role??? ????

It irks me bc there are plenty of Chilean actors that could have filled the role I’m sure

And to me, it furthers the idea that all Latin Americans are interchangeable. On top of that Banderas isn’t even Latino, he’s Hispanic cause he’s from Spain??? I love him but man that really irked me

I’m not saying don’t go see the movie but keep in mind that the decision to cast Banderas as the main focus is pretty ridiculous and, in a way, kind of racist. That being said, Cote de Pablo is quite possibly the only Chilean actress in the film. And yet….. Casting 1 correct person in a film does not mean it’s all suddenly ok and you’ve sidestepped all these problems lmao.

I know, it´s so upsetting like they say Chile is a basic country and that we have no culture or art interest and if they dont even give chilean actors (there are really good chilean actors and movies) the chance to be in A MOVIE ABOUT CHILE AND FILMED IN CHILE how do they expect that we suddenly have an advanced culture and international "fame". They turned an heroic rescue and true story into a fake representation to entertain hollywood and for them to have succes in the united states.

Yesterday when we started talking about this movie (The 33), I glanced through the main actors and noticed that most of them were not Chilean. This is the top-billed cast:

Only Cote de Pablo is Chilean among them. In a Chilean movie, about Chilean people, we have more people of Irish descent among the main cast then of Chilean descent. Amazing.

I know that they probably chose to cast well-known actors so the movie would sell, but by casting almost exclusively non-Chileans (in all the main roles) to play Chilean people they are sending a horrible message to everyone in Chile, and that just should not be acceptable.
(plus the movie is in English???? spoken with an accent)
