imagine a Clone Wars episode/arc where a criminal is hired to dig up dirt (real or imagined) on the Jedi so they’re expelled or fall out of favor with the Chancellor or something

but like the investigator/criminal gets inVeStEd

“what do you MEAN Windu has never taken a day?? in his Jedi career?? someone teach this man SELF CARE”

“what do you MEAN General Kenobi would have left the order for Satine Kryze??? and they haven’t seen each other in over seven months?? do I NEED to wreak havoc on Mandalore so you can get thee to her, ginger-in-chief?”

“what do you MEAN Yoda’s apprentice fell to the dark side? what absolute madman does that to a liddle green bloke?”

“I have a bad feeling about exposing any of General Skywalker’s private life… as in… imperially bad feeling… I think he needs some blankets and maybe calming herbal teas”

“boss I’m sorry Commander Tano has done nothing wrong in her life ever”

re berkeley

From a friend: “We totally begged UC Berkeley administrators to cancel Milo months ago. We begged them directly to cancel this thing earlier this week after we read aloud death threats we and others have received for even so much as asking them to consider cancellation. But they refused to listen.

When a student asked Nils Gilman (Chancellor Dirk’s Chief of Staff) under what conditions administrators would cancel the Milo event, he responded, ”…If there is a ‘clear and present danger'—this is the standard articulated by Justice Brandeis a number of years ago—but 'clear and present danger.’ That can only happen when the event is either basically happening or about to happen in order for it to be clear so you can actually literally see that there is a danger. So in other words, if there’s about to be a riot, and the police judge that there is about to be a riot, the police could, as a matter of public safety, say, 'This is not a situation where we have enough manpower where we can control and provide public safety. We’re gonna shut this thing down.’ But that can only happen if there is, as I say, a clear and present danger. That’s basically the standard that the supreme court, a hundred years of jurisprudence, has upheld. Did that answer your question?“

Conclusion: the UC Berkeley administration wanted a riot.”

Admiral Polts Personal journal.

It’s been about a week since the humans arrived and they now make up one third of our cerw, they have settled in well, almost too well as they have made this fleet and it’s ships their own. I have been doing research on them and although the reports are conflicting and sketchy they do all say that humans will change their environment to make it more suitable to them. Which is why the unused cargo hold is now something called a “puppy pen” and they are holding nightly events where they gather and play games about exploring a dungeon. They are also oddly easy to get along with, they take almost no offence when insults are thrown at them and if anything speak worse to one another. Their commander Captain Clerk assures me this is all natural that humans bring their home with them but will try to keep from taking over too much of the fleet.

So far the only race that has any problem with them are the Benemar, but the Humans have not risen to any challenge by them, not sure how long that will last.

On a side note I have orderd the fleet not to eat or drink the humans food, it.s just plain poisonous and how they manage to digest it is beyond me!!.

A number of humans were in the canteen eating a delicacy called “curry” a number of the other alien crew had tried some and apparently the sauce did not agree with them. It burned through one of their stomachs, luckily he survived. The third day of the human week was considered curry day and was sacred to them, along with “tacos” on the second day. Their meal was interrupted by sergeant Cathy calling for everyone’s attention.

“Excuse me everyone” the talking stopped and they looked over at her, she was clearly distressed.

“Has anyone seen Troy?”

“Your beagle?” asked another Human.

“Yeah, he isn’t in the puppy pen”

“Maybe someone took him for a walk?”

“I thought of that but he hasn’t been signed out”

All the Humans looked at each other and a silent agreement passed between them all as they all put down their food and left the canteen to go find Troy leaving a number of the non human crew alone.

“What’s a beagle?” Kio asked his mate.

After only one hour every Human on the ship was looking for him, they checked every vent, every cannon and every inch of the ship and were soon resorting to handing out picture of Troy asking if anyone had seen him. To the non Humans this behaviour was odd, this animal was not part of the crew or their squad yet every one of the Humans was distressed about it being missing.

Cathy found a number Benemar wrestling in the gym and approached them.

“Excuse me”

“Huh? A Human, what are you doing here?”

“I’m looking for my dog Troy, here’s a picture of him please let me know if you see him”

The Benemar clan leader took the picture and a smile crawled across his face, he handed it to the others who all mimicked his expression.

“We have seen this thing little Human”

“You have!!! Where?” she asked eagerly.

“Well you might have trouble finding him now” he laughed

“What?”

“We wanted to try Human food, this animal barley had any meat on him I don’t know why you keep them”

Cathy looked up at them her face blank, no emotion and her voice flat.

“You…ate him?”

“Yeah, I mean this creature makes a pitiful meal and cried the moment we picked it up, stupid animal”

“You…ate Troy?”

“You deaf yes, if you are looking for us to be sorry for eating your food, tough we are Benemar and our laws say only the strong eat”

“You…you….”

Cathy was shaking and her hands curling into fists, her face went from calm to rage in a single terrifying moment. “YOU ATE MY DOG!!!”

She lunged at him and proceeded to tear him apart.

Admiral Polt and Capitan Clerk sat opposite each other in Polt’s office, the silence between them was vast as Clerk had said something that Polt did not expect.

“Can you say that again please for the record” Polt asked.

“I believe Cathy’s reaction was justified” Clerk said with no uncertainty in his voice.

“She killed the Benemar clan leader, his chief is demanding justice”

“If he wants to try and get it he is free to, but in my eyes and my superiors she has done no wrong as under our law dogs are given the same basic rights as us”

“But it’s just as dog?”

“IT’S NOT JUST A—-” Clerk said slamming his hand down on the table but quickly calmed himself “It’s not just a dog, it is  “A” dog”

Polt nearly fled the room when Clerk slammed his hand, after seeing what remained of the Benemar he had no desire to anger another Human.

“I loved that dog, we all did and love all the dogs we brought with us, for someone to…eat one is…”

“It’s okay I understand, I shall speak the chief”

“Thankyou” Clerk said leaving and Polt called the chief to his office.

“What do yo mean you are taking no action?” the chief screamed.

“By their laws sergeant Cathy has done no wrong and was well within her rights”

“She killed one of my clan leaders!”

“Rather impressive for a Human half his size don’t you think? You saw the body, do you really want to take this further? If so I’m sure Captain Clerk would be happy for you to”

“What was it about that animal that they hold so dear?”

“I’m, glad you asked” Polt said pulling out a small folder “i have been reading up on Humans for a few weeks now and there is an interesting bit about dogs I believe will help put this in perspective. They have co-existed and co-evolved for over 30.000 years. The bond between a Human and a Dog is so strong that no words need pass between them for each to know what the other wants. They have fought battles together and have made homes together and Humans care for their dogs as if they were their own children and dogs protect and serve the humans as they are a loving parent. No other race in the galaxy has a companion quite like the Humans have dogs, to belittle or harm their companions in any way will bring their full wrath down upon you”

Polt closed the book and looked at the Benemar chief who had said nothing, he left without saying another word to quickly tell his own warriors to leave these dogs alone.

Polt breathed, another crisis averted and he could move onto more pressing matters, like this Sergeant Stabby that was visiting next month and has all the Humans excited, he worried as to why.

  • Mako: Oh, hey, chief. Did you get my report on the triad murder?
  • Lin: Yeah, I looked it over. Nice work.
  • Mako: Good. Thanks, mom.
  • Lin: ...
  • Mako: Why is everyone staring at me?
  • Asami: You just called Chief Beifong "mom."
  • Mako: What? No, I didn't. I said, "thanks, ma'am."

  • Mako: No. If anything, I see you as a "bother" figure, 'cause you're always bothering me.

Awkward Conversation

I wrote it!!

This is not my best. I wrote this late at night after having class all day and studying for midterms so it’s sloppy but it’ll do.

Here you go @jadeandsunsets and @dragonlover7860 ! I hope you guys like it!

There are so many ways I imagine Stoick finding out about Hiccup and Astrid but this is the one I chose to write.

Enjoy! :)

Stoick was walking up the many steps to the Great Hall, where he was supposed to meet Gobber and a few others to discuss the winter weather preparations. He was halfway up the stairs when he heard a giggle.

He turned around and saw nothing behind him but then as he continued up the steps, he heard the same laugh again. Stoick peeked over the side and saw Astrid pressed against the stone and Hiccup pressed up against the girl. The two young Vikings were kissing.

They are kissing. Oh Thor! Finally! Stoick thought to himself as he smiled at the couple. He stood there for another few moments before he realized he would probably get caught if he stood there any longer. He continued up the steps and made his way inside the empty hall.

While waiting on the others to show, Stoick sat in thought.

When did this happen? Why didn’t Hiccup tell me?

Stoick figured that he could either be the father that flat out tells his son he saw the two kissing by the stairs or he could be the father that tries to pry it out of his son with awkward questions.

Stoick decided on the second option. It seemed like more fun.

Newcomers Pt3

“OH MY GOD!!!” private Hesty screamed as he held onto the toilet for dear life “AHHHHHHH”

Finally his anus widened enough to let the shit out and he breathed better and his body relaxed but he continued to make odd noises. “OH GOD I THINK I JUST GAVE BIRTH!!”

He eventually made his way out of the restrooms to the horrified expressions of the non human crew, he smiled and awkwardly walked down the corridor muttering to himself about never having that curry again. His train of mind was interrupted by a mass of Humans running towards him.

“What’s going on?” he asked

“The new transport from home is here”

His eyes widened and he joined them heading to the hanger.

Polt was there in his pristine uniform to greet this Sergeant Stabby that all the Human spoke highly off, from what he could tell this Sergant likes to go around stabbing people to which they find funny for some reason. The Humans gathered and the non humans did to out of curiosity. There was never a dull moment when you had a Human around and they had thousands.

The ship docked and the crew came aboard, having more Humans aboard was something Polt was not sure he wanted but at least these ones were only going to be here for a few days.

Then the weird stuff started, one of the Humans began sniffing, a lot which was followed by others. He had heared that Humans have a powerful sense of smell and whatever has caught their nose must be good for them. One moved towards the transport crew still sniffing making them smile.

“Is that what I think it is?” he asked them and the crewman opened a small container that let off steam as it opened. Then as one all the Humans screamed as one voice.

“PIZZA!!!!” and stampeded towards the crates opening them and devouring these pizzas as if they held the secret to eternal life.

Polt turned to ask Captain Clerk about it but found he too had descended on the crates, so intent they were on getting this new food that a few broken noses had occurred but as they usually did, they laughed and carried on.

Trying establish order among them was futile but once these pizza’s were getting handed out they quietened down.

“Sorry about that, it’s been a long time since we had pizza” Clerk said his mouth still full.

“Attention, stand to for Sergeant Stabby!” someone shouted and all the Humans fell into rank and file and awaited. Polt fixed his uniform and eagerly waited for this Sergeant.

But it wasn’t a military mad that approached, it was one of their mechanics carrying a small box.

“Umm…Sergeant Stabby?” Polt asked.

The mechanic shook his head and placed the box on the ground and this odd disc shaped thing with a fork taped to it came out. All the Humans quickly saluted this thing.

“Um, Catpain Clerk”

“Yes?”

“What is this?”

“This is Sergeant Stabby, a roomba with a fork tapped to it” he said as if it was the most normal thing in the universe and he said it with pride. The Benemar who were observing from above we equally confused as was probably everyone else.

“Sergeant Stabby, go about your duties” Captain Clerk ordered but the roomba made no noise or motion. After a few seconds Clerk leaned down nad flipped the ON switch and the roomba went off cleaning the floors.

“It’s a cleaning machine?!” Polt exclaimed.

“it’s a roomba” private Hesky corrected stepping out the way of it as it approached him.

“All this for that thing?!”

“Yeah, I was wondering why you are all dressed up” Clerk said walking off and soon enough the Humans all dispersed leaving everyone else confused.

Polt laid on his couch nursing a headache, these Humans were driving him insane and they had only been here for a few weeks. Some part of him thought it would be easier to just hand command over the Clerk and be done with it but alas he could not, then one more crisis occurred.

A knock at his door stirred him “If this is another complaint about the Humans you’ll have to deal with it yourself”

“No sir, we have receive a distress call”

“From where?”

“The Remer colony, they are under attack from the Gal”

“Divert course immediately”

Polt was on the bridge with the Benemar Chief and his clan leaders along with the Humans captain and officers. The Chief and Clerk glared at one another, they clearly did not like the other and Clerk stuck his tongue out as some kind of insult but the Chief did not understand it.

“Approaching Remer colony now” the helmsman said and the fleet broke into realspace to see the entire planet burning, its defences destroyed and it populace fighting for their lives.

Polt looked at the Gla fleet, it was huge more than twice the size of his and who knows how many of them were on the planet.

“Plan of attack sir?” Captain Clerk asked.

“Don’t think we can, the Gal are already planet side once that happens the chance of driving them off is almost zero” Polt says with a heavy heart.

“But there are still millions of people down there” Clerk argued.

“They’re not your kind why should you care” Chief said.

“So what? Admiral if the Benemar are unwilling to take the fight to them you have thousands of Human soldiers ready willing and able to do so”

“there are probably ten times your number down there”

“Then it makes it harder to miss”

Polt looked at them both, normally he would have ordered the retreat but the look it Clerks eyes made him think otherwise. Why were these Humans so concerned about the people? They were not Humans.

“Please my men are really bord”

“Yeah and I’m PMSing like a bitch in heat I need to vent”

Polt didn’t know what that meant but he understood their resolve.

“Do you really think you can retake the planet?”

“Just give the order” Clerk grinned.

“Very well, man your pods”

Clerk banged his chest with his hands and smiled along with his officers and left the bridge, the mustering hall where the Human soldiers were gather all eagerly awaited to hear what their orders were.

“Right lads!! We’re on so lets get this done and give those Gal a dam good kicking!! Who’s with me”

The Humans cheer shook the hull as they ran to their pods that would shoot them from the ships straight onto the planets surface, this means of deployment was considered insane but somehow the Humans keep doing it and surviving.

The Benemar not wanting to be shown up demanded to go to and boarded their shuttles.

The Liberation of Remer had begun.

Maces and talons post

I could not stop wondering how this game works, how many pieces it has, how it is supposed to be played and if it is related to chess in any way.

So without further ado, a very long post about all its appearances and possible pieces.

Viggo uses it as a metaphor (despite him disliking metaphors) for his battle with Hiccup. Its first appearance was during Viggo’s introduction, in which he held a dramatic little speech about how he came to love the game.

He shows us the first piece, the Viking chief which he speaks of as “honorable” although he could have also been talking about the player being honorable in his or her strategy. I’ll just call the piece the Viking chief, as honorable is not used as an important part of the piece’s portrayal.

Next we get a close up of the board, left we see a dragon, in the middle stands the Viking chief and just behind it lies a longship. On the right there is a figure facing the camera, holding a sword in his hands, I’ll call it the swordsman for now. The figure seen from the back looks like he is holding a shield in his hand. And lastly Viggo holds a spare miniature mace.

In the next episode Viggo leaves Hiccup a maces and talons board with three pieces. Hiccup pointed at the left one and said it was supposed to represent him, the Viking chief. On the right stood the chief of the Marauders, the leading piece of the other party. The two chiefs start sound like the black and white kings on a chess board. Both pieces carry the same title, namely the title of chief, and are clearly of opposing teams.

In the middle stands the impostor, or the traitor as Hiccup calls it. Viggo later confirms that the piece is named the impostor, but also goes by the name of the traitor, possibly because of its role in the game. Hiccup stated that the traitor always dies in the end, which bears some resemblance to the role of the spy in Stratego. (The spy can take out the highest ranking piece of Stratego if he attacks first, but dies by the hand of any other piece). It also suggests that the traitor is a much anticipated piece. Players use it a lot and as a result it dies so often it ends up dead during most of the played games. Both the impostor and the spy die most of the time, but are still pretty important pieces to a player.

Fishlegs comments that “the game was designed to test the abilities and decision making expertise of future chiefs in the heat of battle”, telling us that it is a game stimulating a war where the player is the leader of their force, not unlike popular real-life games such as chess and Risk.

By now we can also identify the figure from Viggo’s board that was seen from the back. It is probably the chief of the Marauders. Both pieces carry a shield in their left hands and both have a helmet with a shorter horn on one side. The impostor (as seen on the right below) also carries a shield, but lacks the belt that both figures on the left have. Its shield appears to be more ornate amd the sides of its mouth point downwards. Another difference is the sword in the right hand of the impostor. The chief of the Marauders does not hold anything in his hand.

The impostor is also spoken of as singular. It’s other known name and role as the traitor could very well mean that there is only one of these in the game, flip-flopping from the Vikings’ side to the Marauders’ and back.

Next we get a scene where Viggo and Dagur play the game using real life people as pieces. They speak of “my longship” and “your kingship”, implying that both players own one of each of these ships. Any of these four could be the ship seen on Viggo’s board, but my money is on the longship. I would expect something a little more impressive from a piece called the kingship.

There are also eight hunters, addressed with possessives as well, making the total sixteen, just like pawns in a chess game. The word “hunters” used to address their pieces could both be the official name of the figures, or the name given to them because they are played by dragon hunters.

At the end of their game one of Viggo’s hunters/pawns holds a mace to Dagur’s Viking king’s head. This mace could very well be the miniature mace he used to knock over a figure during his introduction, making that mace one of multiple. If there was only one mace in the game, it would have been THE mace to Dagur’s Viking king ’s head.

Dagur has the figure of the Viking king, which I believe is the same as the Viking chief. Taking out Dagur’s viking king made Viggo the winner, in resemblance of taking out the king on a chess board. As seen on the board Viggo left Hiccup, the Marauder chief and the Viking chief are the leaders of their respective parties and probably the most important pieces as well. Having another king on each side would not make a lot of sense, so I’m just going to assume the Marauder king/Marauder chief and the Viking king/Viking chief are the same piece.

It is also worth noting that if Dagur plays the Viking chief, Viggo is the Marauder chief, just like he was on the board he left Hiccup. Apparently Viggo prefers playing the Marauders’ side. Maybe because it gives some sort of advantage in the way the player playing the white chess pieces starts the game? Or maybe he identifies with the Marauders more, seeing as the said himself playing the “honorable Viking chief” was what got him to lose from his grandfather.

The last we see of the game in season 2 is Hiccup holding the viking chief.

By now we know that the game is well known because every member of the gang seems to remember this game. Hiccup feels the need to point out which figure is which and what their roles are, so the gang’s knowledge of it might be a bit shady. This does not seem illogical, after all not everyone can recite the rules of a real-life strategy game at the drop of a hat. Only those who play it often (in this case Hiccup) may.

It has the following pieces: The viking chief, the Marauder chief, one or more impostors, two kingships, two longships, eight viking pawns, and eight marauder pawns. Figures not identified yet are a swordsman and a dragon, both of which could belong to any of the two parties.

All those pieces can never fit on the board together without making it impossible to move them. Every time we see a Maces and talons board there are only a few pieces on the board itself. Either they have been removed, or as Dagur said “have been taken out” or they are yet to be added as the game progresses. A third option would be that a player is able to trade pieces on the board for pieces not used at that moment in the way a pawn can become a rook or queen. I’d personally prefer the second theory, making the board pieces similar to the troops used in Risk that a player can add at the start of each turn.

Lastly we know it is played by strategists to test their intelligence.

So far so good, now it gets confusing~>

The game makes its reappearance in the season finale as Hiccup meets Viggo and hands him a piece that is most likely the impostor. the confusing part is that he was seen holding the Viking chief back in season 2.

We also get a view of the board, with the longship from Viggo’s board back in Maces and talons Part 1, the dragon and the figure that looks like the Marauder chief, but with a sword. I’ll call it a pawn. (My explanation will follow later, keep reading).

We get two more shots of the board, both from roughly the same angle. They show the longship on the left, the swordsman in the back, two impostors in the middle, the dragon and on the far right the Marauder chief.

I don’t know if this was a mistake, intentional or just Hiccup messing with Viggo by returning him another piece. Viggo does not comment on this, rendering the last theory unlikely, unless he chose to keep quiet to frustrate Hiccup.

Next we see Ruff, Tuff and Fishlegs playing the game. On the screencap above stand the Viking chief and the swordsman and on the screencap below Fishlegs looks at the dragon, a longship and the impostor.

On Tuffnut’s side we have a pawn, the Viking chief (so far the Viking chief is the only figure with bent horns) and the swordsman. The Viking chief and the swordsman are likely to be the same as the ones two screencaps up. Not much new information is given.

On the contrary, the game’s last appearance is VERY interesting. Fishlegs and Snotlout play against Heather and Astrid and their game is in full progress when the camera hovers over the board.

There are two ships on the board and two beside it: the longships and the kingships. It looks like the animators used the same model, so we can’t tell the difference between the two kind of ships, but I am sure the characters can.

The two pictures above show that there are multiple pieces of the figure with the sword in one hand and a shield in the other, pretty much confirming that these are the pawns.

Below I have marked every piece I could identify. Circled in green are the four ships, two kingships and two longships. There are eight pawns in red, one impostor in blue and three dragons in orange. Unidentified are three objects in the top left corner.

All figures marked with orange have a tail and wings, making the total of dragons three while the Marauder chief and the Viking chief are nowhere to be seen.

There are three pieces left unidentified. On the side lies a figure without bent horns, with a belt and without a sword in his right hand. If I have to guess I’d say it is the swordsman. The swordsman has so far only been seen once per game and was not on the board itself. The little piece on the right looks like a spare mace to me. In the middle lies something I cannot identify AT ALL, but given that it was hinted at that there were multiple maces in the game, I’d pin this object as a second mace.

My conclusions~>

Except for two little errors, I’d say maces and talons is a very detailed and logical game with many elements from real life war-simulator board games.

The first error is that Hiccup gives Viggo a second impostor in Defenders of the wing Part 1, despite holding a Viking chief at the end of Maces and talons Part 2. For the conclusion, let’s assume this was a mistake and Hiccup actually handed Viggo the viking chief. This would turn the impostor into an unique piece, matching Heather and Fishlegs’ game where I marked only one figure in blue.

The second error are the three dragons on Heather and Fishlegs’ board and the lack of the two opposing chiefs. My guess is that there is only one dragon and that two of these dragons were supposed to be the chiefs instead. This is a guess, as the dragon has so far only been seen once per board. It has never been addressed, nor hinted at, so anything about it would remain a mere shot in the dark.

With those errors fixed… Let’s move on to the real conclusion

The game features two parties at war with each other, the Marauders and the vikings. The parties are led by their chiefs, and taking out the opposing chief will win you the game, like the king on a chess board. Each party consists of a longship, a kingship, a mace and eight pawns. Furthermore the game houses one dragon and one swordsman, both without known designated roles, and one impostor who does not belong to either side an usually pays for this with its life.

Furthermore, the Viking chief holds two axes while the Marauder chief holds up his hand without holding something in it. A spare piece of the game is the Marauders’ mace, which I think could fit into the empty hand of the Marauder chief. If the Marauder chief wins, the player can take out the mace and knock the Viking chief over in a chessmate kind of style.

Not all pieces are on the board at the same time, usually only a few are seen on the battlefield, tying into the strategy-part of the game. Picking the right pieces to play with at the right time could be a huge intelligence test for the player, reminiscent of how a player picks a card to play during various card games.

There seem to be rules on how the pieces are supposed to move across the board as well, yet I do know them, nor could I figure them out.

All in all Maces and talons seems inspired by turn-based strategy games like Risk and Stratego to some degree, while keeping Chess as its main influence.

So what do you guys think? Feel free to add your theories! ^^

Newcomers Pt 19

“What do you mean they have stopped?” Deeter asked after hearing the latest update from their commander Hopoln.

“It seems the Human advance on all fronts has ground to a halt, we are not sure why” Hopoln said rather annoyed that he had to be the one to tell them as it was demanded of him but it took his attention away from other matters.

“Then now is the time to attack and drive them from our world once and for all!” Seewol shouted getting to his feet.

“Forgive me High Chiefs but attack with what?”

The chiefs looked down at him confused as if he had asked what colour the sky was.

“With our armies what else?”

“Our most experienced warriors were lost when Geeda fell, I have had to evacuate all the surrounding towns and those in the path of their advance and call for the militia. Potellan, our capital is the most heavily defended city on the planet and WHEN the Humans come here I will have a better chance of defeating them. Out in the open? No, they are too manoeuvrable especially now with the Gal at their side. But behind our walls that dwarf those of Geeda? Yes, I believe I can halt them here, like water against a rock they will crash against our walls and break”

“Is this the voice of cowardice I hear? Rather to fight behind a wall where you are safer than fight in the field” Peepel said grinning and the guard moved a step closer to Hopoln.

“You are confusing cowardice with caution and strategy, but as is your right and if you truly believe me a coward. Kill me and take command yourself and lead the army from our walls and face the Humans in open battle, I am sure the warriors would take heart from seeing their High Chiefs set and example of such courage”

The other two Chiefs looked at Peepel who looked around and remained silent for a time before finally finding his voice. “You are the commander of the army, and we trust your decision and counsel”

“Thank you High Chiefs for the honour you bestow upon me” Hopoln said bowing.

“What of the news of a disease running through the Human camps?” asked Deeter.

“Rumour, speculation and hear say, we have no evidence of this and what news we have is contradictory. It is not a reliable source of information to act upon”

“Very well” he replied not to convinced though.

“What is the status of Karamora’s activation?” Seewol asked.

“Slow, it has slumbered for so long and it’s awakening is proving difficult, but it is awakening but we should not put our hopes on such a god. I still believe I can defeat the Humans without it”

“You fear Karamora will accomplish what you can not?”

“I fear what Karamora is, as any rational Benamarian should”

“Enough!” Deeter shouted “The god of war has not yet awakened, Hopoln still has time to appease it, now go and continue your work”

Potellan was a grand city and the largest on Bento Prime, the jewel of the Benemar it’s buildings were artistically constructed even if many had fallen into disrepair, the streets were intricately woven together so that no road ever ended but connected to another. This meant if one was not familiar with the city it was easy to get lost. The High Chiefs palace was a massive pyramid that towered over the other buildings, it also doubled as the Alliance’s embassy and offices on the planet. They had fled the moment the Humans arrived giving promises of reinforcements but he held no hope that they would ever arrive. Hopoln knew that it was likely that other Human fleets were entering Alliance space, they had not taken kindly to the betrayal the Alliance and the Elong had done to them. Hopoln had voiced his objection to invading the Humans home world, especially since they only had the knowledge of it’s location for a week before the invasion fleet left. For his unpatriotic speech he was demoted but subsequently reinstated when the invasion went sour. He had no love for the Humans but he did respect them, in war they knew what they were doing and how to use an enemies advantage against them. He had studied the fall of Geeda for countless hours, the satellite images and recordings smuggled out and the com recordings of the conversations. The Humans had expertly brought a great city down in a few hours but it must have been in the works long before they made planet fall. In some ways they were doing the same to Potellan. The city was flooded with those fleeing the war and seeking safe haven which will stretch the city’s resources. He watched them from the High Chiefs pyramid, a long column stretching to the horizon, farmers, scavengers, merchants, breeders, elderly and many more from all walks of life but none of what he wanted. Warriors. He had put any who could carry a rifle into service and was still in the middle of training them.

It was slow as they had never fired a rifle before and Benemar rifles are bulky and have a huge kick to them when fired, some were knocked over when shooting their rifle for the first time. But, they were still there to defend their homes and one man defending his home is stronger than ten invaders. Besides, he had the walls too, these were not like the walls of Geeda, these were three times higher and twice as thick. They had cannons mounted on them that were usually mounted on starships and with this arsenal and a desperate army he was confident he could break the Humans here. But the worst part of it all, he had to wait for the enemy to come to him. They had the initiative and could depict the flow and pace of this war, that was an advantage he needed to take away.

Oolana sat on a bench staring into space, she had not eaten in nearly two days as what little she could carry when fleeing home had either been stolen by others or she had had to eat herself. She thought of her son Creten and her husband Malthos. She had already lost three children and Malthos was determined to make sure she lost her last one, she never scorned him the way his father did in fact she had found delight in the fact he was so different from his siblings. Preferring to disappear and look for new plants or creatures while his bothers and sister practised their shooting and bladework. But now, like them he was gone and so was her husband, he may have been hard but he was loving in his own way she wept at the thought of how he might have died. These Humans, these monsters that were ravaging their world had come and taken everything from her and she hated them, loathed them, cursed them. Then someone got her attention, a merchant mentioned the town of Mela, her town.

“Excuse me” she said grabbing his arm “What did you say about the town of Mela?”

“Oh that place, it’s gone, burned to the ground I saw on my way here from Geeda, where the survivors were taken”

“What? Survivors?”

“Yeah, I hear most of that town are in Geeda now, there is a little one there causing a bit of mess by talking about peace and understanding with the Humans”

Her eyes lit up “Was he small with short hair and no tusks and with a scar across his left brow?”

The Merchant looked at her confused “I didn’t get a good look at him but he was small and had no tusks”

“Creten!” she screamed “Take me to Geeda, NOW!”

The Merchant was taken back by her sudden request and held his hands up “I am not going back for another three days while I restock and return to trade, and besides, can you pay me to take you there?”

Oolana froze and released him, she ahd nothing, no money and nothing to trade…except. She pulled him close and whispered in his ear and the merchants eyes lit up with desire.

“I accept your payment”

Jenkins was about half way through his metamorphosis as it was being called, he had refused to rest which would make it go faster but as he said he had too much to do so as a side effect he was at a point between Human and what was next. He ached and was still getting used to the extra joint growing in his leg, the tail was a bit annoying as well as he kept sitting on it and it was very sensitive so it hurt.

But all that was forgotten for when his connection to the Link intensified he heard a conversation between the Conduit and the Nerve. What he heard shocked him.

The Conduit sat opposite him in his office tent neither saying anything.

“Can you say that again please” he asked.

“The Gal…are dying”

“Um…elaborate please”

The Conduit seemed uneasy speaking about this, or maybe it was not sure how.

“We were never meant to take the form that you see before you now, we were originally designed to be a biological weapon. Microscopic in size, the physical form was not supposed to be available to us but we evolved and overcame, but at a price. We are dying, we can no longer produce new spawn”

Jenkins sat in shock, he didn’t want to believe this “Is there a way to reverse this, can we help at all?”

“You already have” the Conduit said and even though it had no true face Jenkins sensed it smile.

“The symbionts”

“Yes, we used the last of our spawning capabilities to produce as many of them as possible to give to you, the Gal as you know will go extinct but our genetic material and legacy will live on in you. Right now your president is being told this too and soon through the Link everyone shall know”

Jenkins sat back in his chair, it had had a part of the back taken out so his tail could fit comfortably through and the chair was higher as his legs were now longer. He held his head with one hand watching the Conduit.

“You’ve been planning this since the beginning haven’t you?”

The Conduit could not hide his surprise that Jenkins figured that out.

“It did occur to us during our first contact that we may be as Humans say, cut form the same cloth, we knew of our impending end even then and were searching for  way to continue. Finding you we saw ourselves for what we could have been and this plan was formulated as a possibility. When peace came to our races we began putting it into action”

“Why didn’t you tell us?” Jenkins asked.

“We were scared, we were afraid you would refuse or even kill us and wipe us out and our work to liberate those oppressed under the Alliance would go unfinished” the Conduit said feeling an emotion it could not understand, if it had eyes it would have cried.

“Oh Gal” Jenkins said getting up and embracing the Conduit “You have nothing to fear form us, we accept you and are thankful for these gifts you have given us. I admit these new bodies take some getting use to but Humans are very adaptable. You are us and we are you, knowing that how could we ever hate you?”

The Nerve heard this and this conversation was heard by every remaining Gal and even the Humans heard it, the Gal’s secret as they thought was in fact, their hope and the Humans cried and laughed and embraced the Gal thanking them and saying how happy they were to have met them. Such a scene would have been thought impossible years ago when these two races met on the battle field intent on killing each other. Now they were family and they were sad for one was dying, but they would live on, inside Humanity. Or as they were now calling themselves, The Celestrians.
