chicken and potatoes and corn

🌿Cheap Witch Patchwork Soup🌿

Patchwork soup, a name my boyfriend coined for my most often made pick-me-up soup! It’s probably not practical to post this in the summer but David got struck down with a rough cold and he needs a pick me up for his interview tomorrow! This is a crockpot recipe because I’m a lazy witch but I’m sure you can cook it on the stove just fine. Feel free to change the recipe or measurements as you please, I’d rather you enjoy the taste, and remember everything tastes better with a little love.💚✨

  • 4 cups of chicken stock or vegetable for a vegan option
  • 3 russet baking potatoes diced in small pieces(you can usually find these for $1 a pound, so it comes out to .50-.75cents)(healing, grounding)
  • one cup of diced carrots or a 6oz can of diced carrots
  • 6 oz can of corn(protection, good health)
  • 10 oz can of cream of mushroom
  • 4-6 diced chicken breasts(how many you use is up to you, I like to get thinly sliced ones from walmart because it’s usually $4-5 and less fatty, black beans are a good vegan option)
  • 6 cloves of garlic or two tablespoons(healing and protection)
  • crushed black pepper(protection)
  • sea salt(cleansing, protection)
  • thyme(healing, health)
  • coriander or cilantro(same plant different parts)(healing, health)
  • 3 bay leaves(protection, healing, purification)
  • 2 tsp onion powder or a small onion(healing)
  • 1 tsp tumeric(healing)

It’s time to make some fucking soup. There’s not a lot of brewing and stewing in this recipe so your intention goes into the ingredients; focus on healing energies when you cut up your ingredients. The first layer of your soup should be the diced chicken, on top of that place your potatoes, then the carrots and corn. Remember each layer is another layer of healing to your soup! Now it’s time for your lovely spices, when putting them in your soup poor it on top in a clockwise motion, do the same for the cream of mushroom and broth afterwards. Cover and cook on high for six to eight hours! Stir once more clockwise before serving to fill it with extra love and healing energy. Pairs well with mint or ginger tea. Enjoy!🍵

Armani Crews, who turned 6 earlier this month, had been begging her parents for “a few months” to feed homeless people in her community, but her parents thought “she was joking,” her mother, Artesha Crews, told ABC News.

“I said, ‘OK, we’ll make some sandwiches,’ to which Armani said, 'No. I want the same thing we’d have at my birthday party,’” her mother recalled.

Even when her father, Antoine, informed her that if she wanted to go through with this, she wouldn’t get a birthday gift, the girl, whose birthday was March 5, persisted.

So the Chicago family spent about $300 buying food to deliver to homeless people in the city’s East Garfield Park neighborhood. They purchased chicken, fish, spaghetti, corn, green beans, mashed potatoes, rolls, cake, cookies, fruit and water.

After Armani mentioned her plan at the family’s local church, congregation members donated other items to create care packages for the homeless. Each care package included a toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, hand sanitizer and a snack, such as a granola bar.

Armani’s birthday party was a success, with the family feeding more than 125 people who gathered.
In a statement, the kindergarten student told ABC News, “It was nice to be nice.”

Her mother added, “She was excited. She was happy. Everybody was being fed. …One of the gentleman said he hadn’t had a hot meal in a long time.”

Now the 6-year-old wants to host another community meal for the homeless. Her mother said the family plans to return to the park “within the next couple of weeks.”

It’s weird to think that before about 1500, no one had ever eaten beef and potatoes.

(Or spaghetti with tomato sauce.  Or chicken with corn.  Or turkey with wheat bread.  Or pork with chili.  Or rice with red beans.)

Unexpected Guest - pt. 1

This is based off a dream I had the other night, and decided to write out. Nothing special or exciting, just a fun, fluffy story. And now that I’m officially posting the first part, I’m dedicating myself to finishing the rest.

3,123 word(s) of fun and fluffy buildup. No warnings.  Leonard x Reader

You shimmered onto a familiar patch of grass. The warm breeze blew your hair gently around your face, you closed your eyes and took a deep breath. You opened your eyes slowly and stood there for a moment and stared at the quaint farmhouse your parents had given to you, with your bag slung over your shoulder, smiling ear to ear.

The Enterprise had just finished another mission and had come back for supplies and repairs, granting the crew a weeks leave. You had jumped at the opportunity to come home. It had been far too long since you’d been back.

Fallout 4 Companions As Parents

- Cait is the token ‘hot mom’, would definitely burst into the school like a hurricane if she found out her child was being bullied and demand the principal got up off their fat corporate funded ass to do something about it, if they didn’t she’d go to the kids houses and ask to fight the fucking parents, wouldn’t be able to cook to save her fucking life so your prime source of nourishment would be pizza she ordered (she’d be cool about it and let you pick whatever toppings you want), bedtime would be nonexistent and vague and she’d pretty much just tell you to go to sleep whenever she figures out it’s actually pretty late, you’d find her the next morning passed out on the couch with a bag of pretzels tucked into her side, ‘sex ed’ mom who all your friends come to for help even before the actual sex ed teacher or their parents, everyone’s kind of scared of her so you don’t really have to worry about anyone bullying you, let you have your first sip of alcohol, once you get older lets you have some drinks as long as you stay in the house bc she knows kids always find a way to drink, when you wanna try out for a sports team she helps you work out and trains with you, when you go on your first date and they come to pick you up she glares a hole into their head but tries to be polite bc you’re her fucking baby, gives you the coolest hand-me-down clothes

- Hancock, ‘the Cool Dad’, one time you came home in tears after getting dress coded in Jr. High and he was genuinely flapperghasted (’you look fine? The fuck you mean they said ‘you were distracting the boys’?? You’re eleven???), busts into the school and gives the principal AND the teacher who dress coded you the scare/tongue lashing of their fucking lives, lets you wear whatever you want within reason, takes you shopping and if you pick up something weird that tangibly no one else would wear he looks at you dead serious and says ‘i love it.’, the ‘fuck yeah stick it to old people while eating cereal in his jammies’ dad, totally respects and adores your rebellious phase bc you’re teaching yourself that the system is corrupt, always went to all your daddy/daughter or father/son dances and events and scared the shit out of all the other parents despite being the friendliest person there, picks you up from school blasting rock music and takes you to get ice cream after a game/performance/bad day, ‘auntie fahrenheit’ who comes to visit and always stays up watching true crime and law and order with you, she teaches you practical self defense as opposed to hancock’s ‘here’s a knife stab em until they drop’ take on it, occasionally picks you up from school to go play laser tag with hancock and all their friends, has an entire hanse of friends who all think you are a fucking angel and would probably die for you, he helps you clean up after a wild party so your other parent doesn’t find out, when you come home drunk as a fucking skunk he makes you a sandwich gets you some gatorade and tucks you into bed only promptly to wake you up at 6AM to mow the lawn to teach you a valuable lesson, when your first date comes to pick you up he greets them in his signature ‘hancock’ coat draped over his jammies eating chocolate rice krispies with a ‘sup dude’ no matter what gender they are much to your utter embarrassment, always the first to hug you after someone breaks your heart

We were in the hospital for three days, making sure we were happy and healthy. When we were finally released from the hospital, I was happy to go home and sleep in my own bed. Jaclyn was amazing and I could see both of us in her. We pulled in the driveway, and let out a sigh happy to be home and relax. I grabbed the car seat and bag, she was still out like a light, just like her daddy. After I had put her in the bassinet I walked over to the bed and just fell face first into the blanket.

I heard chuckling and knew it was husband, I then felt the bed dip and a warm hand run through my hair. I rolled over and gave him a playful scowl, “Why Mr. Ackles! Are you really laughing at your wife who just brought that cute little person into the world?” I mock gasped then grabbed a pillow hitting in the side of his face. “Your gonna regret that sweetheart!” “Ok Dean!”

He rolled me to my side then pulling me to him, in his arms. We just laid there relishing in the peace and quiet. “Why don’t you get some rest and when you wake up we’ll make dinner” “Sounds good babe.” I fell asleep laying in Jays arms, he always knew how to make you feel safe.

The next time I had woken up it was 8:30 at night, I immediately felt bad for sleeping for so long. I stretched and headed down stairs, I could hear singing and automatically knew it was Jen singing. I walked into the living room to see a sight that filled my heart with more happiness I had ever known. He was sitting on the couch, gently rocking her and singing to her. She watched him with such amazement, such fascination. I just walked in and sat down next to them, she started fussing again and I knew she was hungry.

I took her into my arms, and started feeding her. Jen just pulled me back and just watched at this amazing miracle brought to him. Once she was fed and burped, I just held her until she passed out. “What’s for dinner babe?” “I was thinking Chinese” “I love you” He just chuckled and called our order in. I put her in her bassinet and just watched this beautiful little human.

A month down the road was Mother’s Day, so Jared, Jensen and Misha were going to cook for us. We were a little terrified at their kitchen skills but felt blessed to have such amazing men by our sides. I looked around the Padalecki’s living room, watching the kids play on the floor while Gen held Odette and Jaclyn in my arms. When she started fussing I knew she was hungry, so Gen offered the guest room for some privacy.

Anytime I could do this with her, made me feel closer to her every time. She looked so much like her daddy, her sparkling green eyes and blonde hair made me see so much in her already. Once she was happy and full, I went back out to smell the most awesome smell. Gen had already put down Odette so I put Jaclyn in next to her and it was so cute how they snuggled closely. “I think they’re friends already” Gen just smiled wiping away the tears that I was shedding as well.

“Dinner’s ready!” I felt a pair of hands grab me and pull me back. “Honey why are you crying?” “Look at them Jay, I am so blessed for all of this” I sniffled and continued “Thank you for all of this, for being an amazing husband, and an amazing father and just all and all amazing” He put his chin on my shoulder and kissed my cheek. “I should be thanking you for coming that day, if you hadn’t come for your last video this wouldn’t have happened”

He grabbed my hand and pulled me towards the dinner table, it was a feast. There were grilled steaks and chicken, corn on the cob, mashed potatoes, fresh made ice tea and a pecan and peach pie for desert. We all sat down, Jen said the prayer then we all dug in. The meal was amazing, and the stories along with the laughter made the day better. When we finally got home that night, I was one happy mama. I was full, happy and tired. The boys had a few more days of filming left, but the boys felt bad for leaving so quickly. “Jay it’s ok, just come back home, that’s all I ask” “I will always come back home to you”

He put JR down and sang to her just like every night, once she was out he came back down hugging me and kissing me. Just then his phone went off letting him know that Jared and Misha were there. “I love you baby” I grabbed his cheeks pulling him down for a deep kiss “I love you more”. He kissed me once more then headed out. I checked on Jaclyn once more before going to the master bathroom to get a bath. I walked in to see a basket with oils, salts, lotions, and body wash.

I called my amazing husband thanking him with tears in my eyes. He just reminded me that I deserved it and that he would text me when he got to Vancouver. I started the bath water and decided to use the rose bath salts tonight. Once I settled in the water it was a cocoon of relaxation and comfort, I stayed in until my skin started to prune. I put on one of Jay’s flannels and a pair of panties, conking out when my head hit the pillow.

When I woke up, it was about seven, so I went to check on Jaclyn. She was still sleeping away, so I went downstairs to get breakfast started. I checked my phone and was happy to see a picture from Misha of Jensen and Jared asleep on set. I just chuckled and shook my head, I started the coffee and turned on the radio. It was then Jaclyn started crying, I went up and picked her up, noticing she was warm. I called Gen panicking a little bit, she calmed me down and said that she would bring over some Tylenol to help with the fever.

I had a bassinette that sat on the couch, so I laid her in there and grabbed a cool washcloth to help cool her down. Between sleeping and crying, Gen had brought over some things to help me out. I thanked her immensely, and she said she was happy to do it. It was eight at night when she started crying again, so I took off the flannel then took off her onesie. I laid her on my chest then pulled the flannel over her, blanketing her in her daddy’s smell.

She fell asleep like that, and I was more than happy to lay there and watch her be calm and relaxed. I took a picture and text it to Jen, I kept him updated throughout the day on she was feeling. Of course, he felt guilty for not being there to help but I just nixed it before it got too bad. It had been about two days with no sleep but her fever was almost gone and that was all worth it.

I was sitting on the floor with Jaclyn between my knees, I was playing peek-a-boo and tickling her tummy. I was so in the moment I didn’t hear the front door open and close, I didn’t hear the footsteps coming my way. “How are my girls?” I jumped a little bit, and saw Jay standing there with a smile. “What are you doing back so soon? Not that I mind” “We pushed through it so we could get home, the guys wanted me to get home” I just smiled with tears in my eyes “I’ll have to thank them later”

“Right now, you’re going to get a shower and get some sleep ok?” I nodded and just hugged him to me. I went upstairs and took a near scalding shower, letting the hot water relax my muscles and wash away the odors. I was happy and relaxed, I put on a pair of sweatpants and one of Jay’s t-shirt’s. I fell asleep snuggled into a ball falling asleep quickly, happy to know that my husband was home for the summer.

Description: You are JYP’s first black female idol and you are doing a collab stage with Got7 and a certain foreigner has a crush on you.

Request: HI, I was wondering if your request box was open, I was hoping if you could do a got7 scenario with Jackson when you’re JYP’s first black female Kpop idol of a girl group and his bias. Our two groups do a collaboration stage and instantly hit it off. The reader also doesn’t fir the natural Korean status as she’s really thick and curvy, but she’s also short like 5′2-5′3. Plus she’s like the main dancer/rapper of the group, thank you! I hope it’s not too much.

A/N: I was gonna add a gif but tumblr is not complying *cries* Also, sorry it took me so long @themelaninlife. I’ve been trying to balance school and housework and this blog and i’ve put this off for too long and I sincerely apologize :’(

“Hey Y/N sweetie, how’s Korea treating you? Are your members from Blue Skies treating you well?” Your mom asked with a choppy voice. It had been a few months since you had last spoken to your mom and to say you were homesick would be an understatement.
Living in Korea was fun the first few years as you got to learn more about the culture and the country and the food, but ever since you debuted you slowly but surely became more and more homesick. When back in the States, you could talk to your mom everyday for hours on end; but now, you talked to your mom once every few months. And it didn’t help that your label mates Got7 got to go to America twice this year while you were stuck promoting in Korea, China, and Japan. Every time they came back from America they told you how great the food was and Mark tells you how great a home-cooked meal is after months of not having one.

Been reading WtM since near the start and really really love the fic. Here's a food question; out of all the dishes that Peeta and Katniss make and enjoy together what's your favourite? Are there any that you've made yourself? Also what was your favourite one shot that you've written? (I think mine was the Threshing Floor.)

Awwww, you are so sweet!! Thank you so much! <3 Oddly enough, I was just looking back at Ch 6 yesterday - the part where Peeta makes toast-and-honey-topped hot chocolate (based on my own recipe :D) to welcome Katniss to her new home, which might be my favorite food moment (even though hot chocolate isn’t, strictly speaking, a “dish”). But there are so many others that stand out to me too!

  • Grandma Brognar’s fried chicken (someone asked me about that awhile back and I’ve been meaning to reply - I found a recipe similar to the one that inspired it, where you simmer the chicken in wine after frying)
  • The soup (basically, potato corn chowder) that Katniss falls asleep eating after hunting the New Year’s buck
  • The whole breakfast on the sofa in Ch 10 - the first time Katniss tastes bacon! (Cheese bun bacon sandwich dipped in a runny yolk!)
  • The fried peaches and cream that top the griddle cakes in Ch 7
  • The ginger cake with custard that they split at the end of Ch 8 (Katniss’s first supper with Peeta)
  • The rabbit stew Peeta makes from Katniss’s first haul (with wild rice, mushrooms, shallots, and garlic)
  • The peanut butter (and chocolate chunk!) cookie dough Peeta makes after they go skiing for the first time
  • The ginger “dove cake” with the orange curd filling and marzipan glaze
  • The post-New Year’s griddle cake bake :D
  • The entire breakfast Katniss makes for Peeta in Ch 14
  • Pretty much any occurrence of cold chicken or bread pudding!

Most of these came from my imagination, alas. I enjoy cooking and feel like I have a small knack for it, but I haven’t had a lot of opportunity/resources/training as yet. :( As a small child I loved to steal tidbits of cold chicken when my mom cut up a roast chicken (for adding to soup, Rice-a-Roni, etc.), and she made bread pudding (from stale loaves of grocery store white bread) a couple of times, which was so simple and delicious at once. I can make a decent batch of egg dumplings, though, and I think the closest I’ve come to making a WtM!Everlark dish in my real life is the chicken ‘n’ dumpling soup that Katniss eats in the bathtub after her first hunt in Peeta’s woods. :)

Awww, I’m so flattered that you like The Threshing Floor! <3 It’s hard to choose a favorite between my babies (even though few of my pieces stay oneshots, so there aren’t that many to choose from)! TTF will always be a fave but I love The Steward and the Bow-Maiden so much too (I wore myself to a thread trying to make an Everlark fic read like Tolkien :P), and for all that Torchlight is Primko and Janek/Alys, it’s top of that list as well - and then there’s Breadcrumbs and Mockingjay-Maid…!

But right now I think Embracing the Season might be my favorite. It was a challenging, even brave fic for me to write in a lot of ways and I was so happy with how it came together. It’s a little like The Steward and the Bow-Maiden in that I don’t think it especially stood out or made a big impression to readers in general but it hit me really hard - and then went off into the universe, carrying large pieces of my soul with it.

Thank you so much for your lovely note and questions! <3 *hugs*

tbh my diet and exercise routine is pretty stable during the work week because I wake up early, eat a pretty healthy breakfast and have a damn healthy lunch like sweet potatoes n eggs n corn n chicken n shit lmao. then by the time I get home I need to exercise n I don’t usually feel too hungry, which is ironic. on the weekends though…………..fuck, I actually go crazy because I’m generally @ home the whole two days so I have unlimited access to all the foods in my house. I’d go from eating sweet potatoes n chicken breast to rice n fried chicken n I KNOW thats not good for a diet but you know what, I’m pretty happy about that. I’m feeling better, looking better n it doesn’t feel like I’m starving myself n I’ve been pretty consistent with my exercise so hopefully all this shit works out n I can start my youtube channel when I’m sexy n hot.

Homemade Mexican Food

I love to make serious Mexican food from scratch. I live and work in Southern California, so there are Mexican restaurants all around. Most of them are awesome. The ones I don’t love as much are maybe not my favorite because their ingredients aren’t the best, like cheap corn products, or questionable meats. So sometimes I like to spend a couple hours making homemade Mexican everything from scratch. Home made Mexican food, using the best quality ingredients, is delicious and easy to do. It’s a little time consuming, but worth the flavor explosion. The Mexican grocery stores around here are cheaper than any other grocery stores, so that’s good too.

The top picture was the other dish I made to possibly submit to the cheesy Chopped competition, taquitos, stuffed with chicken and poblanos, with ancho chili cheese dipping sauce, shredded lettuce, chopped tomatoes and fresh guacamole. It was delicious. My Hubby and I loved every bite. I didn’t use this photo because after I made it, I saw on their inspiration page they suggest taquitos, so I changed my dish to Fried Chicken & Waffles. Thanks to anybody who voted for me. They don’t announce the winner of round 2 until June 27th. Fingers are crossed and all good luck charms in my small jeans pocket.

The second picture is a chicken and bean tostada I made the next day because I still had a lot of ingredients. This dish has home made restaurant style salsa, avocado crema, and beans and rice. This was also amazingly delicious. Here are some of the basic components I like to make for a Mexican feast.

For easy Guacamole: mash avocado, mince shallot, squeeze of fresh lime or lemon, chopped cilantro, chopped tomato, s & p.

For Avocado Crema: Mix plain yogurt or Mexican crema with a few spoonfuls of the Guacamole.

For easy Salsa: Fresh tomatoes (or a can of tomatoes) in a blender, salt & pepper, 1 garlic clove, chopped cilantro, 1 seeded jalapeño or red chili flakes, lemon or lime juice. Blend until blended but still chunky. Add minced onion that you have rinsed in cold water, at the end. The rinsing is so the onion doesn’t take over.

Tomatillo Salsa: Roast hulled tomatillos in the oven, at 400, with a small onion, a jalapeño pepper, and 2 garlic cloves, for about 20 minutes. Blend the cooked ingredients with lemon or lime juice, cilantro, salt and pepper.

For Easy Taquitos: Roll your favorite cooked ingredients (chicken, potatoes, charred peppers, cheese) in a softened corn tortilla, secure with toothpicks, fry in hot oil for 3 or 4 minutes.

Easy Cheesy Ancho Sauce: 1 tbsp Butter, minced shallot, salt, pepper, 1 tbsp flour, cook until flour cooks, 1-2 min. Add 1 ½ cups chicken stock or Milk, whisk until it thickens. Turn off heat, add 1 cup shredded cheese and 1 tsp Ancho chili powder. yum.

Easy Tostadas: Fry organic Non GMO corn tortillas in hot oil until crisp. Top with refried beans, cooked chicken seasoned with chili powder, cumin and coriander, lettuce,  tomatoes, guac or avocado cream, & salsa.

For easy Mexican Rice: Oil or butter in a pan, add chopped onions, chopped garlic, chopped jalapeño, and rice. Sauté all ingredients together until fragrant. Add chopped tomatoes, s & p, and enough liquid to cook your rice, I think it’s usually 2 c water to 1 c rice.

For easy Refried Beans: The easiest way is buy a can of low fat organic refried beans. You could doctor it up with Ancho chili powder, maybe a little garlic powder, maybe a little cumin, or just heat it up and let the rest of the stuff you made flavor the beans. The slightly harder, but still easy way, is to buy dry beans, wash them, cook in a big pot with several cups of water or chicken stock, cook for a couple or more hours, add salt and seasonings, mash. Add to a baking dish with some cooked rice, top with cheese, bake until the cheese melts.

Garnishes for me always include shredded lettuce, chopped cilantro, chopped tomatoes, and a fresh squeeze of lemon or lime. Seriously Yum.
