chicano film

…And Now Miguel (1953), Directed by Joseph Krumgold

An unusual docudrama funded by the State Department and intended for overseas propaganda, this film depicts the routines and customs of the Chavez shepherding family in northern New Mexico. This is a rare instance of Chicanos being featured in a non-stereotypical and positive light.  It was created by the US government no less.  The film lead to a well known children’s book and Hollywood remake by the same name.
