Lyonel Feininger, born today in 1871, was master of the Bauhaus’ printmaking workshop and a comics pioneer. Here, Wee Willie Winkie throws a stone into a puddle to turn its “sour-looking face” into a smile. Notice the tall black cats in the margins.
