chevron beads

We went to visit my Uncle Mike at the old Lamonica home where my dad grew up. It’s one of my favorite places.

He loves beads and art and is a huge collector. Here are some of the highlights from our tour through his collection…

1. Chevron beads and other glass beads from the 1800s. These were worth about $30-50 a strand.

2. A year back, he bought this from an art gallery. He saw it and just couldn’t stop thinking about it. Finally called them up and made it his!

3. These are some of his many trade beads. This particular strand was used in the slave trade. Beads have been used for currency for a really long time and beads were often used for trade in Africa because the African culture placed a high intrinsic value on decorative items way back when.
