• pita chips (0.8 oz) + 4 Tablespoons hummus

• 1 1/4 cups blueberries (6 oz) + yogurt (6 oz)

• 65 raisins (1.2 oz) + 1/8 cup sunflower seeds (0.6 oz)

• 33 grape tomatoes (20 oz) + goat cheese (1.3 oz)

• ½ regular bagel (1.3 oz) + 3 Tablespoons light cream cheese

• 12 wheat crackers + 1 slice cheddar (1 oz)

• 1 large apple (7 oz) + 1.5 Tablespoons caramel dip

• 3 rice cakes + 1 Tablespoon peanut butter (0.6 oz)

• One 6-inch tortilla + 2.5 Tablespoons guacamole

• 2 cups whole strawberries (10 oz) + 4.5 Tablespoons fruit dip

• 2 medium peaches (8 oz) + cottage cheese, 1% (5 oz)

Black beans, most nuts, eggs, milk, falafel, avacado, oatmeal and soba. And of course–meats, but I’m trying to list off the less obvious stuff. Chicken breast if you don’t care for red meat. My favorite protein meal is Black beans on top of rice with chicken breast, green bell pepper and avacado. I also put 6000 gallons of sriracha on it but that’s optional, of course.

My favorite breakfast before I work out is one hard boiled egg, a small block of white cheddar, and some apple or peach. Some almonds go nicely with it but almonds are boring as hell in my opinion. :^) Happy eating and get those gAiNz, anon. 

The 3 Day Diet

The 3 Day Diet, also referred to as the Cardiac Diet, is meant for rapid weight loss. It is often used in hospitals for cardiac patients who need to lose large amounts of weight before having heart surgery.

Proponents of this diet claim that you can drop 10 pounds in three days and that you can manage to lose 40 pounds in one month.

Being extremely low in calories, it is unhealthy to follow this diet for more than 3 days. After the 3 day period, you should return to your normal food intake for about four to five days. Only then you can repeat this diet again.

This diet consists of eating moderate portions of tuna, lean meat, grapefruit, toast, eggs and vegetables. Portions must be eaten exactly as specified in the diet plan. Only salt, pepper, and ketchup can be used to season foods and no sugar is allowed. Dieters are encouraged to drink 8 glasses of water a day.

The 3 Day Diet Meal Plan:

Day 1

Breakfast:

  • Black coffee or tea, with 1-2 packets Sweet & Low or Equal
  • ½ grapefruit or juice
  • 1 piece toast with 1 tablespoon peanut butter

Lunch:

  • ½ cup tuna
  • 1 piece toast
  • Black coffee or tea, with 1-2 packets Sweet & Low or Equal

Dinner:

  • 3 ounces any lean meat or chicken
  • 1 cup green beans
  • 1 cup carrots
  • 1 apple
  • 1 cup regular vanilla ice cream

Day 2

Breakfast:

  • Black coffee or tea, with 1-2 packets Sweet & Low or Equal
  • 1 egg
  • ½ banana
  • 1 piece toast

Lunch:

  • 1 cup cottage cheese or tuna
  • 8 regular saltine crackers or 1 piece toast

Dinner:

  • 2 beef franks
  • 1 cup broccoli or cabbage
  • ½ cup carrots
  • ½ banana
  • ½ cup regular vanilla ice cream

Day 3

Breakfast:

  • Black coffee or tea, with 1-2 packets Sweet & Low or Equal
  • 5 regular saltine crackers
  • 1 ounce cheddar cheese
  • 1 apple

Lunch:

  • Black coffee or tea, with 1-2 packets Sweet & Low or Equal
  • 1 boiled egg
  • 1 piece toast

Dinner:

  • 1 cup tuna
  • 1 cup carrots
  • 1 cup cauliflower
  • 1 cup melon
  • ½ cup regular vanilla ice cream

I feel like I talk a lot about the “folk witch” part of my name but not the “Appalachian” part. So.

In my neck of the woods this week, we’re having Stinkfest, an annual festival devoted to ramps. If you’re not familiar with ramps, they’re a wild leek that grows in Appalachia, almost a delicious weed here, that commands $30 a pound in some gourmet grocery stores (coughcoughWholePaycheckcough). And damn, it sure is wild. It has a super pungent smell that, even up until the 70s, kids had to stay home from school if they ate it. Its flavor is best activated with fats; it’s usually paired with pork fat and a carb, like potatoes. In theory you can use it anywhere you’d use an onion or leek, but it can overpower a dish so it needs to be the star.

I got a bunch of ramps, ramp pesto, and had a ramp cheddar biscuit with apple chutney. I’m still thinking about that biscuit hours later.

Magically, I think ramps would be a good warding component. If you’re not familiar with it, or hell even if you are, it definitely screams “back off!”

The Military Diet- A Review

Good morning everyone! Last week I attempted the military diet. The first two days are a breeze but the last day kicked my ass. So in this review, I’m going to give you the diet plan, my tips, and ways to curb hunger during the diet. 

Day One:

Breakfast is pretty filling. You are allowed half a grapefruit and a slice of toast with two tablespoons of peanut butter and a cup of coffee or tea, unsweetened. I enjoyed this breakfast, except the grapefruit part. I tried to find a substitute for the grapefruit but there is none. 

Lunch is a bit dry, ½ a cup of tuna, a piece of toast, and another cup of coffee or tea, unsweetened. The only thing you can add to the tuna is salt and pepper. HOWEVER if you don’t enjoy tuna, you can substitute it with canned chicken or an ounce and a half of fresh chicken. Vegetarians can substitute the meat with tofu, black bean burgers, or a protein supplement.

Dinner is 3 ounces of any meat (I used hamburger, it’s easier to measure out and you can make it look like its a larger portion), 1 cup of green beans, a small apple, a half of a banana, and a cup of vanilla ice cream. One thing I did for the ice cream and the fruit was I sprinkled slices of apple and banana with cinnamon and baked it, then topped the ice cream with it. If you don’t like green beans, substitute with broccoli, cucumber, zucchini, or peas. If you are vegetarian, substitute with tofu, black bean burgers, or a protein supplement.

Day Two:  

Breakfast is one egg, cooked however you like (I hard boiled a few eggs for the diet so I had a hard boiled egg), a slice of toast, and the other half of your banana. I crumbled up the egg, added salt and pepper, and put it on top of the toast. 

Lunch is a hard boiled egg, 5 saltine crackers, and a cup of cottage cheese. If you’re like me, you do not like cottage cheese too much and can barely stomach a few bites, let alone a whole cup. For this, you can substitute two thin slices of sharp cheddar cheese. I use cracker barrel because they sell it in a thin cube shape and I just love the taste. 

Dinner is 2 hot dogs with no bun, a cup of broccoli, ½ cup of carrots, ½ a banana, and a half cup of vanilla ice cream. For this, I sliced my hot dogs into very thin chunks, and stir fried broccoli, carrots, and hot dogs. I added a teeny bit of soy sauce for flavor. I topped my ice cream with fresh banana and cinnamon. 

Day Three:

Breakfast is one slice of cheddar, 1 small apple, and 5 saltine crackers.You can top the crackers with the cheddar or you could top the crackers with apple slices. It’s all up to you. 

Lunch is a hard boiled egg and one slice of toast. It’s not much to eat so you’re going to be hungry for a little. I recommend trying to hold off on eating lunch until the afternoon, treat it as more of a snack. 

Dinner is a cup of tuna (or any of the aforementioned substitutes), half a banana and a cup of vanilla ice cream. If you made it to today, CONGRATS! This diet is not very easy and you are successful.

So, typically you could expect to lose about 7 pounds, but you could lose as much as 10 pounds! The MOST IMPORTANT THING is stay hydrated. 8-10 glasses of water will aid with losing weight. 

If you are getting hungry, one thing that is helping me is reminding myself that I’m doing this for my health. I also start counting to 10 because as Kimmy Schmidt says, “You can do ANYTHING for 10 seconds.” And it’s true. You can! Be strong and remember your reason for losing weight.

10 Pounds in 3 Days?!?

Alright girls, here is something I can across today on Pinterest. It’s called the 3 day Military Diet. Basically, it claims that if you follow the three day meal plan you can lose up to 10 pounds in those three days. It’s challenge accepted for me. This is the perfect way for those soon to be bride’s to lose a little extra right before the big day and for all us college girls to trim down before a big weekend out and about. Here is the meal plan:

Day One:

  • Breakfast - 1 slice of toast, 2 tablespoons of peanut butter, ½ a grapefruit, and 1 cup of coffee.
  • Lunch - ½ cup of tuna, 1 slice of toast, 1 cup of coffee.
  • Dinner - 3 oz. of any meat, 1 cup of green beans, ½ banana, 1 small apple, 1 cup of vanilla ice cream.

Day Two:

  • Breakfast - 1 egg, 1 slice of toast, ½ banana.
  • Lunch - 1 cup of cottage cheese (or 1 slice of cheddar cheese), 5 saltine crackers, 1 hard boiled egg.
  • Dinner - 2 hot dogs (no buns), ½ cup of carrots, 1 cup of broccoli, ½ banana, ½ cup of vanilla ice cream.

Day Three: 

  • Breakfast - 5 saltine crackers, 1 slice of cheddar cheese, 1 small apple.
  • Lunch - 1 hard boiled egg, i slice of toast.
  • Dinner - 1 cup of tuna, ½ banana, 1 cup of vanilla ice cream.

It seems super crazy, but why not give it a try and see if it works for you!!!
