I’ve been crying at my desk at work off and on all morning.
First, a dear friend and colleague came in who is always so easy to talk to and such a good listener, and she loved James a lot too and told me she still cries every time she pulls the prayer card with his picture out of her purse.
Then, I received a big envelope from our business office with a summary sheet and scans of all the notes and checks that came in for James’ memorial scholarship. People gave almost $4,000 to his scholarship – including $1,000 from our agency. I’m so overwhelmed and grateful to all the people who contributed and will start writing thank-you notes this week.
I’m thrilled with how healthy the scholarship is. I’ve said from the beginning that I want it to last at least through the year that James would have graduated – 2032 – and even if no other money goes into the account, we will be able to give about $200 per year to graduating seniors all the way through 2032. That’s just amazing.
