cheap gowns

“I’m the princess of Cyreneham,” said the little girl with great solemnity. Her cheap Disney princess gown flowed odd and tatty in the railway station, a flash of colour among the grey. “And I command you help me with my quest and return me home to my people.”

Turned out that the little girl in a princess dress was actually the kidnapped heiress of a magical realm and didn’t just mean get me a ticket to Cambridge or something.

The Contest-Part 15

To celebrate Supernatural’s 15th season, the producers have decided to hold a contest to cast an unknown in a recurring role as Sam’s rumored love interest.  They are doing open casting calls all over the country.  Your best friend Nikki wants to go and she drags you along.

A/N: My inspiration for Nikki is the one and only red, @oriona75.  So I am actually telling two stories here, Jared and Readers, and Sam and Gemini’s.  It flips back and forth, so try and keep up! :)

Characters: Jared Padalecki, Reader, Best friend Nikki(OC) Jensen Ackles, Misha Collins, Mark Sheppard, PA Emily (OC) Cliff, Other Supernatural cast and crew

Master List

Part 1 (all parts are linked)

I had tried calling Nikki several times, but she wasn’t picking up.  Jared and Jensen had both tried Misha, and he wasn’t picking up either.

“What should we do?” Jared asked me.

“Nikki just texted me an address.” I commented, peering at my phone in the dim light of the bar.

“Misha just texted me one too.” Jensen said, looking at his phone.  He showed it to me.  It was the same address that Nikki had sent me.

I let out a groan of frustration.  “I guess we had better find a cab.  This had better all be a big, fucking joke.  They are probably both drunk off their asses. I swear, I am going to wring her neck!”

“What if they are serious?” Jensen asked, rubbing his hand across his face tiredly.  “Those two idiots deserve each other.”

“No…this is so not happening.” I snapped.

Jared threw some money on the table to settle our bill as we hurried out to find a cab.  “You know Y/N, they are consenting adults, so if they really want to do this we can”t stop them.”

I took a deep, calming breath before speaking.  “Jared Padalecki, there is only one person on this planet I am afraid of….one.  If I don’t stop this, she will come here, and destroy us all.”

Jared and Jensen both looked confused.  I smiled ruefully.  “You two think Nikki is a handful?  You haven’t met her mother.”

So cool story.

This is the transformation of my prom dress. Take a close look at the dress. I’m sure when you hear the word prom you think dollar signs. Yeah, well my dress cost 1 dollar people. 1 dollar. My uncle found it at a little thrift store. When I mean thrift store I don’t mean a cute little vintage place, but a place
Like savers or goodwill. Like that.

The dress was pretty much a wedding dress. So we took the train off the back of the dress (look at left pic, it’s very long and thick) and cut the dress. We then added a lighter more flowy material in the back in 3 sections. So instead of being one long train it was 3 shorter sections.

So after this experience I realized one thing. Girls are being taught that in order to be beautiful you have to spend tons of money to have designer clothes, or the perfect outfit from that store that will take your whole paycheck.

Nope. Don’t buy in. Beauty comes from confidence. Beauty is that beautiful smile that comes from loving yourself and what you’re wearing. Clothes are supposed to make you feel good.

No one knew how much money I spent on my dress at prom. I may have payed one dollar, but I loved that dress and wore it like it cost a million bucks.

The Permission Slip

Because @anghraine mentioned PTA AU, and her brain went one place and mine went another.

The Permission Slip

Jyn opened the door as quietly as possible and slid into the school library. Not that she really should have bothered with stealth. The big room echoed with chatter and laughter and suddenly, happy shrieking as something went pop!

She leaned her back against the wall, looking around. She vaguely remembered coming here on a long-ago Parent Night. At the time, the posters had been dusty and faded, the shelves looming, and the tables dirty. Not to mention a sour librarian who’d been quick to tell her that Lyra refused to stick to books at her grade level, and hadn’t taken it well when Jyn had snapped back that maybe the librarian shouldn’t be giving her kid boring-ass shit she didn’t want to read.

Now it looked bright and warm, the tables all pushed together at one end, sunlight streaming in through the windows. The new librarian had been making changes. Impressive considering he split his time between here and the high school.

The top half of the shelves were empty, all the books moved down. She wondered where the rest of them had gone. Still, there were enough books to make her itchy. She’d kicked the dust of school off her Doc Martens ten years ago, and while she’d gotten her GED, she still wasn’t a fan of scholastic environments in general.

Lyra, she reminded herself. She was here for Lyra. For Lyra, she’d walk over hot coals and swallow live scorpions and -

And take the afternoon off work to tell her kid’s school librarian a thing or two.

Ham is driving to some place to commute, and Laf carpooling with him. They get into a crash on the highway. Both are taken to the hospital. Alex survives with mostly minor injuries. Laf died from something long and painful (idk maybe infection). Alex has survivors guilt, cause he was driving during the crash. DO YOUR WORK PLSZZZZ!!! NEVER TELL BUN BUN!!

The first thing Alexander noticed upon waking up was the sharp scent of antiseptic, stinging his nose and making him only more aware of his surroundings. He squinted his eyes open slowly, attempting to get used to the bright, artificial lighting of the white-walled room.

Sitting up, he winced in pain at a stinging in his leg. He removed the blanket from his leg only to see it bandaged tightly around the ankle. Well, at least that explained the unpleasant sensation.

He rubbed his eyes, attempting to rid them of the deep cloak of slumber that he had been under for far too long. With his tired eyes, he came to the conclusion- after a few moments of speculation- that he was in a hospital room. The underlying stench of bleach, the starchy bedsheets, the fact that he was in a cheap hospital dressing gown instead of his usual suit and tie- it was a wonder that he hadn’t noticed earlier.

It was only seconds later that a woman burst in through the doors, her yellow scrubs displaying her status as a nurse.

“Good morning, Mr…” She said, leaning over to check the clipboard at the foot of the bed. “Hamilton! Well, it’s actually just about three in the afternoon, but we’re supposed to say ‘good morning’ when they wake up, and- I’m rambling, aren’t I?”

“Only a bit…” Alexander replied, his voice hoarse from misuse. “What…what happened?”

“Oh! Well, according to your charts, you were in a car crash with…oh gee, that’s a long name, uh… with Marie Joseph Pau-”

“Lafayette?” Alexander interrupted, eyes widening as the events of that fateful day flooded back into his mind. “My husband, that’s- that’s him.”

“Oh…” The nurse said, her smile dropping from her face. “He was your…You two were married?”

“Yes, we were actually on our way to pick up our son, Philip, from school. He was pretty excited for his first day.” Alexander explained, smiling softly at the memories from that morning.

Philip had been jumping up and down excitedly, his light-up shoes glowing with every bounce. Lafayette had put Philip on his shoulders and carried him to the car, as it was the only way to get the small child to calm down. Philips eyes had been so happy, his smile so wide, as he left the warm embrace of his fathers and ran off to his classroom.

“Yes, Philip- I have been told to inform you that your son is being taken care of by, ah, ‘Hercules Mulligan and John Laurens’.” The nurse said, interrupting Alexander train of thought. “And I was also told to…To say…I’m very sorry for your loss, Mr.Hamilton.”

“I…what?” Alexander inquired, sitting up straighter in his bed as his mind processed the words.

“I refer to inform you that Marquis de Lafayette passed away in his hospital room earlier this morning…” She spoke quietly, averting her eyes as to hide the tears forming in them as she delivered the news. “If…If it’s any comfort to you…he was… he was c-conscious the whole t-time. His last words…His last words were the only words he’d said all day…'where’s Alex?’.”

The Parent Trap

Summary: In a move that shows how much they’ve come to trust her, Dean and the reader allow Mercedes to take Ramona out for a celebration on her graduation night.

Story

The rainy weather persists through the end of the school year, forcing everyone to carry umbrellas and rain ponchos, moving the end of the year class picnic indoors (though no one complained because the pizza quantity wasn’t affected), and a couple of thunderstorms make for a couple of long nights with a nervous baby Ellie. On the last day of school as everyone is rushing to get out the door in time for sixth grade graduation, the rain is coming down in sheets.

Ramona and Mitchell take off for their classrooms to dress in their cheap blue caps and gowns the moment they get inside the school, leaving you and Dean to head for the gymnasium. You find a seat, and within a few minutes, Sam, Addison, and even Mercedes show up and take the ones around you. Lately, Mercedes has become a familiar face in your lives, both by her efforts and everyone else’s newfound but cautious acceptance. While waiting for the ceremony to start, you engage in small talk and play peekaboo with Elodie.

Tips for a nice yet cheap prom gown? (Please tell me I'm not the only one who feels like it's over hyped)

Check out the clearance section of your local bridal shops. They have all kinds of fancy dresses and their clearance sections are a great way to find them more cheaply than you can find prom dresses in department stores. (This is how I got my dress, I forget the price, but it was no more than $40.)

You can also sometimes find prom dresses at second-hand thrift shops! These are dresses that most people only wear once in their lives and then have to give away at some point, so they end up in thrift shops where you can get a dress that originally retailed for $300 for as little as $15!

If you’re not someone who needs something brand-new, you can also try putting out a request on Facebook or through the grape vine to see if anyone has a dress you can borrow (for free!). Again, this is something that never gets worn again and if it doesn’t get given to charity, it takes up closet space for years. If you know someone older than you that’s about the same size, you might be able to borrow a dress.
