Happy belated birthday @midnightstarlightwrites! I love Smoulder and I wanted to draw my favorite moment in the story. The emotion in this chapter was so wonderfully handled, i had a dumbstruck smile on my face when I reached the end of it.
I got lots of Yeses to continue! I can only go so fast though! This is part 2 of my colored Miraculous Ladybug comic. More frames to come :) Though, if I hit 100 yeses to continue, I’m not sure how to do that many frames. Maybe instead an emotional video with the song In The Rain?
I wonder if Marinette ever thinks about Chat Noir throughout the day.
Not in a romantic way or anything, but she’s looking out the window in class one day and she’s imagining what Chat Noir might be up to, or it’s raining and cold and she wonders if he’s doing alright, or she hears a stupid joke and thinks “Chat Noir would laugh at that” (bonus points if it’s Adrien telling the joke) and so on.
He’s her partner and friend. She should think about him sometimes, yeah?
“Come on! Let’s take a walk.” Adrien gave his best wide,
“It’s raining, Agreste.” Alya gave him a flat look. “We don’t
have an umbrella. You may be a sunshine child, but I would rather not get wet.”
“It’s barely even drizzling.” Adrien said, pouting.
“Nuh-uh dude.” Nino said as he slung his shoulder around his
girlfriend. “I think we’ll just have to call a cab.”
“But it’s only a few blocks away!” Adrien pouted some more. “I
gave my driver a day off, and this is one of the only times I get to walk to
“Sorry, man.” Nino said apologetically. “But I’m still
recovering from the flu and I don’t want to get sick again.”
Sighing, Adrien nodded in resignation.
“I’ll walk with you.” A soft shy voice chirped up.
Adrien looked at the girl with bright eyes. A blush was
spread across her cheeks, and she tried to hide her eyes with her bangs.
“Really, Marinette?” he exclaimed happily.
Slightly dazed by his ecstatic green eyes, Marinette tried
to keep her nervous stutter out of her sentences. “Su-sure. But can we just
stop by my house for a moment?”
“No problem!” Adrien said, practically bouncing from one
foot to the other. His excitement was so overwhelming that he wasn’t able to
catch Alya discreetly wink at Marinette. Marinette, however, blushed to her
“Alright, we’ll see you at the café!” Alya called out as she
and Nino headed out to find a cab.
“See you!” Adrien waved them goodbye, and beckoned for
The walk to her house was quiet- just the passing noises of
the cars and the light patter of the rain. But for Marinette, she couldn’t hear
any of it. All she heard was the mantra that she kept repeating in her head.
I can do this. I can
do this. I can do this. I’m going to tell Adrien how I feel.
With that she opened her mouth to finally tell him, but
before she could get any words out, Adrien spoke.
“You know, I’ve always loved the rain.” Adrien said
Marinette stared at the sad yet dreamy look on his face. “Why
“Because my mother once did too.” He said softly.
A comfortable moment of silence passed before Adrien took in
a gentle breath and continued. “She would tell me stories whenever it rained.
And when the weather wasn’t too bad, we’d take and umbrella and go for stroll down
the road, maybe stop by at a nearby bakery to get hot chocolate.”
Adrien glanced at the girl beside him, and gave her a small
“You remind me of her sometimes.”
Marinette cocked her head to the side. “How so?”
“I don’t really know.” Adrien paused for a moment, “I think
it is because you both are kind, and sweet and gentle. But somehow, also
strong, compassionate and determined.”
He let out a shaky laugh as he remembered his mother. “She
used to be so clumsy too.”
“She sounds lovely.” Marinette smiled, melting at his soft
“She was.” Adrien beamed genuinely. It was moments like this
that he could remember his mom in peace- his memories somehow bringing
happiness instead of pain.
He reached out a gave Mari’s hand a squeeze. “Thank you,
She gave it a small squeeze back. “Tell me a story.”
He offered her a grateful smile. “I can’t really remember
much of the stories she told me. I can give you an abridged version though.”
Mari nodded in understanding.
“My mother was trying to explain to me the water cycle once,
and she came up with the story. She told me that the rain water comes from the
sea. The goddess that lived there couldn’t choose who she loved more, the god
of the land or the god of the sky. Every few days the sky calls to her- the god
would send down his winds to whisk the goddess away to his home. The sky god
was cocky and confident, he tried to woo the sea through his muscles and
charms. He was genuine though, but the sea probably never really realized it,
and as much as the sea loved him, she was still torn.”
“After a while, she’d fall back into the land god’s arms-
literally. She’d be so happy to see him, she’s practically kissing the ground
he walks on as she slowly descends down from heaven. The land god was sweet and
gentle. He probably never noticed just how much the sea loved him. He loved her
though, he just couldn’t tell her. And maybe that was part of the reason why
the goddess couldn’t choose.”
Adrien let out a sad sigh. “The cycle went on and on. The
goddess couldn’t decide, and so the gods couldn’t tell her. They wanted to,
they really truly did. But there were rules, and so they could never tell her.
She’d have to find out for herself.”
“Tell her what?” Marinette asked entrancedly.
Adrien gave a soft chuckle. “That they were the same person.”
With that, Marinette also chuckled. Oh the irony. If only Adrien would realize that Ladybug and I are the
If only Ladybug would
realize that Chat and I are the same person. Adrien thought dreamily.
“That sounds romantic.” Marinette whispered.
“And a bit angsty.” Adrien replied as they finally stopped
in front of the Dupain-Cheng’s bakery.
Shifting a bit awkwardly, Marinette asked Adrien to wait in
front of the shop as she quickly ducked in. When she came out, she was
clutching an umbrella and two cups of hot chocolate.
“I got us some hot chocolate. And I’ve been meaning to give
this back.” She opened the umbrella and offered it to Adrien. “Here.”
Adrien stared at the amazing girl, who without even trying,
managed to get him to share a memory he never shared with anyone. The girl that
he had just realized was always there for him, always ready to help him (or
anyone). The girl that was both strong and caring. A sweet and gentle girl- her
bright blue eyes stared at him with so much light. Her smile was enough to warm
An amazing girl, who reminded him so much of his mother- and
now he knew why.
Her smile. You have
Only one other girl had made him feel this way.
With a shocked look, he took the umbrella. A distant thunder
clap startled Adrien, enough so that he managed to press a wrong button and sent
the umbrella flapping down on him.
Adrien blushed under the cover of darkness, cringing at his
awkwardness until he heard her. A loud, unashamed laugh. She was laughing at
him! He peered at her from under the umbrella, and let out a small chuckle of
He looked at her and he could finally see her behind her shy
It was a surge of affection that hit Adrien when he found her standing in the rain. She glanced up and their eyes met, bringing Adrien’s butterflies fluttering up to his chest. There she was. It was almost comical how he never made the connection. Marinette, who was courageous and kind and talented, clever, beautiful and so so many other things. Of course she’s Ladybug, it’s perfect!, Adrien thought as a grin broke out on his face.
Adrien didn’t care much for the rain that pelted his face as he started to make his way towards her, trying to contain as much happiness as he could. Marinette stepped forward, mouth opening to form words. “Adrien, I’m sorr-”
In a second, he’d slipped his arm around her waist, picked her up and silenced her. He’d kissed her for a full beat before pulling away to look at her tear stained face. “You were my first friend, Mari, my first partner, my first love and I wouldn’t have it other way. So don’t be sorry because I’m sure as hell not.”
Marinette looked at the boy beneath her. His lips were curled into a grin that lit up his green eyes. Marinette felt herself smile as she pulled Adrien in for another kiss.
Adrien confides in Marinette that he’s in love, which, naturally, upsets her. It’s only when Chat asks what’s caused Ladybug such distress that she admits to being in love with Adrien Agreste. It’s information that shocks Chat, and sends all sorts of revelations careening into his brain.
Marinette couldn’t believe her luck. Usually, when it came to partner projects, she didn’t stand a chance. Not that she was complaining about generally being Alya’s partner, but they didn’t always get to pick. When it came to random partnerships, she usually had to sit by and watch as Chloe somehow—magically—ended up with Adrien. Or, the last two times, Lila. It would appear that when it came to such things, she simply didn’t have the high chances that Ladybug should.
But not this time!
This time, she was sitting in the library beside Adrien, a stupid grin on her face as she pretended to focus on the books they’d pulled for their research project. They had to have three textual sources, which was, naturally, the biggest pain. But Marinette wasn’t the type to waste time when she had it (being Ladybug tended to interfere with everything, so she used her available time wisely) and, apparently, neither was Adrien.
So there they were, the same day the project had been assigned, alone and sitting in the library.
Marinette thought she might combust.
It didn’t matter that they’d barely said two words to one another, or that Adrien actually seemed preoccupied with everything but her. None of it mattered. Because he was there, and she was there, and they were alone.
No Chloe, no Lila, nothing.
It was like a breath of fresh air.
She’d also been reading the same paragraph for five minutes. Resituating herself in her seat, she reminded herself that she was there to work, despite the fact that Adrien was only a short distance away. She’d regret it later, she knew, if she didn’t at least get something done.
Beside her, Adrien sighed.
Actually, that was the third time he’d sighed in the last five minutes.
Biting the inside of her cheek, Marinette glanced his way. He was hunched over a thick encyclopedia, elbows on the pages as he held his chin in his hands. Though he was apparently reading, even Marinette could tell there was something about him that seemed distracted.
Tapping her fingers on her own book, she considered her options. Either she could stay quiet and continue to listen to his distracted sighing, or she could ask him about it. There was no harm in the latter, she supposed. And maybe it’d start up a conversation.
She could do this. Pull it together, Marinette!
“Um…” she flicked her eyes between him and her book. “A-are you alright?”
He looked her way immediately, appearing moderately surprised. Almost as though he’d totally forgotten she was there. Marinette tried not to think about that.
“Uh, oh, yeah, fine,” he assured, casting her a small smile at the same time. It caused her to blush, Marinette fiddling with the pages of her book as she looked away. “Why do you ask?”
So here goes it
Adrien felt the weight of guilt uncomfortably sitting at the bottom of his stomach as he walked into school that morning. He hadn’t been able to get any sleep since last night, after leaving Marinette in the rain. He was ashamed to admit his cowardice, despite the overwhelming dread he felt in that moment. And now he had to see her this morning looking his worst. Even concealer couldn’t mask the puffiness of his eyes.
“Dude, you look absolutely terrible,” Nino winced, having just walked into class and taking a seat beside his best friend. Adrien let out a weak laugh.
“Thanks bro, it’s lovely to see you too.”
“What happened?” Nino brushed past the sarcasm and faced Adrien in concern. Adrien could only shrug, a small frown etched on his face.
“Don’t really want to go into it,” He mumbled. More students steadily poured in, Alya taking her usual seat with a nod, almost bumping into the desk as her phone occupied her attention.
Ten minutes after class began, Adrien’s guilt began to grow and claw at his throat. Marinette still hadn’t shown.
It’s alright- her being late wasn’t anything new. Adrien tried to focus on the lecture, struggling not to blatantly stare at the door. First and second period passed without so much as an interruption from a wide eyed black haired girl.
When break finally came Adrien whipped around so fast that it shocked Alya enough to drop her phone.
“Sunshine, don’t scare me like that!” She scolded, inspecting her phone for any damage.
Adrien sighed, “Sorry.”
Alya hummed and went back to her phone, scrolling through something with a worried expression.
“Al, you haven’t taken your eyes off that thing. Bustier didn’t say anything ‘cause of the situation but I doubt Dr. M will be as complacent.” Nino frowned at his girlfriend, trying to carefully pry her attention away from the screen. Adrien looked between the two in confusion.
“Wait, what’s going on?”
Alya snapped her attention towards the model in surprise. Her hands gripped at her phone tightly that her knuckles became white.
“Haven’t you heard? It’s been all over the news.” Her eyes flickered toward the empty seat beside her. “Marinette has been akumatized.”
Adrien’s blood ran cold. His hands clenched watching his two friend’s expressions to see if they were joking.
“That’s not possible.” Was all he could manage, as panic began to fill his very core. “The city would be in chaos.”
His Lady couldn’t get akumatized, the miraculous prevented it. Right? And wouldn’t he have known? The city wouldn’t stand a chance under Marinette’s fury, there would be no one to stop her.
All Adrien could think with a sickening lurch in his chest that it was his fault.
“That’s the thing dude,” Nino began, “she’s akumatized- the whole get up, powers and all- but she hasn’t done anything, only sit on top of the Eiffel with this blank expression.”
Alya nodded, also looking a bit queasy. “It’s absolutely terrifying. When police noticed her and tried to get her down, something went wrong and they came back with the same expression, completely unresponsive. No one has tried to get her since.”
“The area’s blocked off now, no one has managed to get in touch with Ladybug or Chat Noir.” Nino glanced toward the back of the classroom. Adrien turned and with a sad realization noticed another missing seat. “Nath, hasn’t left the base of the tower since he found out this morning.”
Adrien felt a pulse in his chest and his ring felt heavier on his hand than it had ever been. He tried not to show his distress but he felt like he was going to throw up.
Marinette was in danger, probably because he messed up and hurt her. Echoes of her face as he turned to leave, the split second of her entire resolve crumbling began to resurface in Adrien’s mind. His Lady was akumatized, subject to Hawkmoth’s influence, and without Ladybug he had no idea how he would even begin to save her.
How could everything have gone so wrong in just a matter of hours?
He couldn’t think of a response, he couldn’t even feel his legs at that moment. Hands trembling, he could only think of how he let the 2 most important- no, the ONLY important person in his life down. His Lady, his princess.
First things first, he had to find her.
Plagg shuffled in his bag, and Adrien got up from his seat. Usually the chaos would give him an excuse to transform, but as the teacher walked in to begin class Adrien ignored her confused look, and simply walked out. Despite the protests of his friends, and the threat of detention or worse, he calmly walked down the stairs and out the school.
@miraculous-trash-please said: You asked for requests so… Could you do Chat and Marinette kissing in the rain at night? Like, up on her balcony with a view of Paris in the background if possible… Please? I’m such trash for that show and it’s all that ever comes to mind.

In the Rain x Miraculous Theme Mashup Cover 💫
This video is primarily for the audio - I sang a chorus of the Miraculous Theme Song (“It’s Ladybug”) over “In the Rain” from the iconic scene displayed in the video. I also wrote my own chorus to continue it and put my own twist on it (: I hope you all like this! Feel free to use this audio or repost the video as long as you give credit!
Here are the lyrics that I wrote myself: Miraculous,
Can hardly express
All of the love
That’s in our hearts,
Our hearts coalesce,
No evil force can tear us apart,
Summary: Pursuing a long distance relationship with a man named Bucky Barnes, you can’t help but feel so unsure of committing to him.
Word Count: 2,930.
A/N: After taking what felt like a century to get inspiration for this fic, alas, the product is finished. Angst isn’t my preferable choice when it comes to writing, but I think I did pretty well. Also, huge thanks to my pal @theassetseyeliner for being a big help when it came to editing this out :D
