Edward Teach & Charles Vane : “I knew right away he was different than the others. He was so like me when I was a younger man. And that he and I somehow were fated to matter to one another. I was consumed with the question of whether our similarities would be a blessing or a curse.”

2/2/16 | 11:45 I enrolled in uni courses today and I’m stressing massively over whether I’ve done it correctly or not and whether I need to go to the enrollment advice session tomorrow even though I’ve already enrolled. I was not mentally prepared for the amount of stress I’m currently experiencing.

A Child’s Garden of Verses by Robert Louis Stevenson.
Illustrated by Charles Robinson.
New York :
Charles Scribner’s Sons.

The Moon

The moon has a face like the clock in the hall ;
She shines on thieves on the garden wall,
On streets and fields and harbour quays,
And birdies asleep in the forks of the trees.

The squalling cat and the squeaking mouse,
The howling dog by the door of the house,
The bat that lies in bed at noon,
All love to be out by the light of the moon.

But all the things that belong to the day
Cuddle to sleep to be out of her way ;
And flowers and childrens close their eyes
Till up in the morning the sun shall arise.

The Land of Counterpane. Illustrated by Jessie Willcox Smith. A Child’s Garden of Verses. Robert Louis Stevenson. Charles Scribner’s Sons, New York, 1905.

“When I was sick and lay a-bed,
I had two pillows at my head,
And all my toys beside me lay
To keep me happy all the day.
And sometimes for an hour or so
I watched my leaden soldiers go,
With different uniforms and drills,
Among the bed-clothes, through the hills…”

2016 U.S. Olympic Boxing Team

The U.S. managed to qualify for 8 weight classes (6 men, 2 women) of the possible 13 spots (10 for men, 3 for women). The only returning Olympian will be 21 year old Claressa Shields who won the only gold medal the U.S. won back in 2012. If memory serves, the U.S. sent thirteen boxers to London in 2012 so this is a bit of a disappointment.

  • Nico Hernandez - light flyweight
  • Antonio Vargas - flyweight
  • Shakur Stevenson - bantamweight (NJ!!!!)
  • Carlos Balderas - lightweight
  • Gary Antuanne Russell - light welterweight
  • Charles Conwell - middleweight
  • Mikaela Mayer - women’s lightweight
  • Claressa Shields - women’s middleweight (2012 Olympic Gold Medalist)
