Charles Manson after his arrest at Barker Ranch, in October 1969

Manson and others were arrested after a police raid at Barker Ranch. The motive for the raid was the fact that him some members of the “family” had set fire to an earth moving equipment in the Death Valley area.
Manson was found inside the house hiding in a cabinet under the sink by an officer who had gone to use the bathroom. By this time authorities still hadn’t linked them to the Tate/La Bianca murders.

“People said I was a leader. Here’s the kind of leader I was. I made sure toilets were clean. I made sure the animals were fed. Any sores on the horses? I’d heal them. Anything need fixing? I’d fix it. I was always the one to do everything nobody wanted to do. Cats need feeding? I’d feed them. When it was cold, I was always the last one to get a blanket.”
