One-spotted Prepona (Archaeoprepona demophon)

Also known as the banded king shoemaker or demophon shoemaker, the one-spotted prepona is a species of leafwing (Charaxinae) which is distributed throughout Mexico, Central America, the West Indies, and northern portions of South America. A. demophon larvae are known to feed on plants of the genera Annona and Malpighia, while adults frequent rotten fruit, flowers, and occasionally dung.

The larvae of the butterflies of the Nymphalid subfamily Charaxinae are blessed with impressive head ornamentation appropriately earning them the title of dragonhead caterpillars.
