On Hot Pepper Gaming

Hot Pepper Gaming had its last episode today and I wanted to write something personal about it. I had this joke that I would always say when somebody talked to me about the channel - that it was sort of silly how the most successful thing I’ve ever done was the dumbest idea I’ve ever had. Classic self-deprecation, but the more I said it the more I realized just how important this dumb idea was to me.

Myself, Erin, and Jared started HPG half as a joke and half as a creative outlet to sort of prove that we knew what we were talking about. When we began, we were all lower-rung creatives working predominantly at Maker Studios - a YouTube multi-channel network. My only claim-to-fame at that point in my creative career was that I had something small to do with the Harlem Shake becoming a thing, and I really, REALLY didn’t want that to be the only accomplishment I had in my life.

I approached Erin about the idea, who called up Jared to join up with us. With a borrowed camera, $20 worth of craft supplies, and a weekend of work, we had shot the first three episodes of Hot Pepper Gaming. We planned to post weekly for a couple months regardless of if it gained traction or not, but on the first episode we were already growing faster than we could follow.

It’s sort of a funny thing how collaboration works. I remember being completely fine with filming Hot Pepper Gaming on a white background, but Erin’s simple suggestion that we use a yellow backdrop meant so much to the branding and style of the channel that I don’t think we would have succeeded without it. Erin, Jared and I all had something to contribute to the project, all of which combined together to create something much bigger than the sum of our parts. And because of this we were able to travel around the world, interact with fans, and sit in rooms with people we respected not only as their creative equals, but later on as their dear friends.

There’s so many great stories that I’ll post whenever I get nostalgic about Hot Pepper Gaming, but for now I just wanted to say something small that I think might describe my feelings better than me droning on about this will. We used to film Hot Pepper Gaming out of Erin’s old apartment, and after the first shoot we decided to grab dinner at a bar next door. I remember us all sitting at the bar, eating pub burgers and toasting to whatever the hell we just did, in our post-pepper andrenaline-rushed euphoria. I remember one of us asking hey, what if this actually does well, and then us all shrugging and laughing.

I’m currently on a flight back from Montreal, Canada, where Jared and I participated in Square Bowl, a yearly charity event that this year supported Doctors Without Borders. We were sitting on a balcony of an apartment in Le Plateau-Mont-Royal, watching the sun set over a park that was freshly-covered with snow. He and I talked for a while about how we were raising money for an important charity with a group of friends and creative collaborators we loved; and how so many of them we knew, specifically, because we had hurt them with hot peppers.

I don’t know what I would say to 24-year-old, fighting-tooth-and-nail-to-create-stuff-and-have-people-care-about-them Vernon if I had the chance, but to think about myself then and see myself now is surreal. I owe so much to this dumb little project, and I’ll never forget it.

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCjqRni-JKHjm0TLB6NFeEgg/videos

Fizik

https://www.youtube.com/user/umutoncul/playlists

Geometri

Lysde geo acayip zordu geometri yapan iyi yerlere gitti diyebilirim o yüzden geometriye önem vermek lazım. Ben sonuç yayınlarını bitirmiştim ama çözümlü değil senin çözümlü almanda fayda var gene birey alabilirsin eğer çok kötüyse geometrin a serisini al netten videoları izle hatta formülleri yapışkan notlara yazıp duvara asabilirsin ama süs olarak durmasın her gün bakıp tekrar et zaten formül bilirsen uygularsın başlarda zorlanman normal zamanla olur bol soru çözmeye bak. Gene teknofem ve hocalara geldik kanalından videoları izleyebilirsin.

Kitapları alırken 2016 basım yılı olduğuna dikkat et ve deneme çözerken mutlaka zaman tut çünkü sınavda yetiştirememiştim ben. Sosyal bölümü hakkında fazla bilgim yok zaten sınavda da yapmamıştım. Dershaneye gitmeden de çok rahat kazanılabilir kazanamazsan sakın aileni suçlama her şey senin elinde istersen ilerde doktor hakim savcı olabilirsin. Hayatın boyunca 1 kez eline geçecek bu fırsatı iyi değerlendir. Hadi iyi çalışmalar

Wait. I just had a thought. Wilford has never felt the effects of fading because his moustache is the channel's "symbol" of sorts, right? So, in years and years, people may forget the egos, but they will never forget Mark and his channel. The channel will always be there, and through it, Wilford will always be there as well, even when all the other egos fade. Weak and alone, but alive. .. aaand i'm sad now

And you guys think I’m evil.

I mean, I am.

But I’m not the only one.

personal trainer shance au where Lance is maybe a youtube star (MAYBE, bc how else could he get a personal trainer? i mean…. other professions sure but let’s stick to youtuber bc that’s more up his alley) who either A) lost a bet/contest so he needs to do exercise for a year, but gyms have never been His Thing, and a friend recommends him personal trainers instead or Lance just wants to be healthy and again gyms are not His Thing so personal trainer he goes.

In steps Shiro. Now there are two ways this could go. Shiro either: A) knows nothing about Lance’s youtube career and only knows him as Lance and later learns about him or B) knows about Lance and either doesn’t watch him because he does not like his internet persona or has this really bad impression of him.

Working with Lance though…. Shiro has to admit while he can be a bit annoying w/ wanting to show off and his occasional complaining, he never backs down from a challenge, even if said challenge almost caused him serious injury. Shiro kind of grows a fondness for the guy and maybe a crush but he won’t admit that out loud

Now Lance? He’s dying. His personal trainer is beautiful and g o d. Why must the world curse him like this?? All he wanted was a personal trainer to help him work out, not this walking Hercules. When he gets to learn about Shiro though, god his heart melts…. the guy doesn’t laugh often but when he does? It’s as if the heavens have blessed him. So good. So pure. When Lance talks about some stuff, like star trek/star wars/ maybe some online games, Shiro sort of joins in, because hey he likes that too! They start to bond over it and heck even exchange friend requests on steam and what not and start playing together. Turns out they’re actually pretty decent! Shiro becomes less of a personal trainer and more of a friend to Lance.

Now here’s the fun part. They’d been doing this for about a good two or three years now, when Lance was still a tiny youtuber and now he’s a not so tiny youtuber. A few times Shiro played on Lance’s streams when they were doing coop, but stopped for x/y/z reasons (injury and what not, loosing his arm maybe?). Most fans don’t know about him, but older, not casual fans remember Shiro and occasionally ask how he’s doing if he’s okay, but Lance tends to delete those messages. He knows Shiro enjoys anonymity.

Shiro is doing better, and is told to try and do stuff he used to do before with his new prosthetic. He chats w/ Lance on a practically daily basis and joins him during calls and what not, but he doesn’t talk and if he does, and it’s usually those dead of night streams that aren’t posted on his channel. Shiro’s sort of a fandom rumour. Shiro messages Lance saying he wants to play this old game w/ him, seeing as he’s online. Little does Shiro know Lance is in the middle of a big stream. Now, Lance’s contact name for Shiro is not subtle at all. There’s like *glittery heart emoji* *100 emoji* *heart emoji* BEST BOY *heart emoji* *100 emoji* *glittery heart emoji*. Y e a h. Lance had changed it to that because…. his crush went hella hard. Also it was sort of an inside joke but still. He tries to hide it, but too late, the chat is chanting for “who is that” and “say yes”. Lance replies and says “sure if you don’t mind being on stream” Shiro thinks it over and joins in and he has fun!!!

But now ppl want to know who Shiro is. And asks him to join Lance on challenge videos. Shiro hangs out around Lance’s house a lot, so he decides one day, sure let’s fucking do it. So Shiro starts becoming a frequent guest on the channel. He still is Lance’s personal trainer, but it’s less personal trainer and more friends working out. Lance still pays him tho bc it would be unfair. He might be a friend now but he’s still asking him for a service and he does have the money.

Stuff happens behind the scenes, Lance and Shiro get closer. Until they do a video together. Now here’s the fun thing about this video. Sometimes Pidge is on the channel. I hc Pidge as being like, a drama nerd who did makeup and has the SKILLS for makeup. From beauty to prosthetics. The video is titled “boyfriend does my makeup”. Ppl assume “oh did Pidge and Lance get together?” well they wouldn’t be wrong bc Pidge and Lance have this weird relationship??? Shrio has noticed. Shiro doesn’t question it, but like it’s a thing. No, no. The video is of Lance and Shiro. If i’m gonna be honest Shiro is horrible at it. Lance looks like a mess. Shiro, in return, looks like a mess, but not as bad as Lance bc Lance picked up some things from Pidge.

The channel then just becomes couple stuff and it’s fun and cute, and they do a lot of stuff, such as Shiro doing a lot of charity and awareness videos and him and Lance attending events and just being generally nice???

the evolution of the channel is amazing. Fuck boy to adorable married couple.

Dear Leo: your thoughts on the Galra maybe wanting to turn Shiro into a quintessence-powered weapon and about Keith maybe looking more Galra in the future got me thinking abt that time Keith absorbed the stuff like no biggie, which in time made me think abt Keith maybe having to extract the excess quintessence out of him to save him. I’m doing my best to think abt it crakily but all I can see is pain :( Do you think they’ll have to go through something like that on top of everything else??? ;A;

oh this is a very interesting thought?? Hm. I know there are some really good theories going around about how Shiro’s arm may need to divert his own quintessence from his life-force to power up. And we also know how that galra tech makes Shiro feel like just a weapon for the galra, like a monster. So maybe he eventually decides the arm just has to go, but they need someone to extract the corrupt quintessence from it first? And so Keith has to kind of absorb it?? It’s something I’ve kinda talked about before, but Keith is definitely guilty over how the galra took Shiro’s arm.

And as a galra himself, I think that channeling quintessence to help sort of heal and minimize the pain of Shiro’s arm would be a really great thing thematically? And also just really help with Shiro’s healing process psychologically? In the sense that he’s had galra rip away his arm and then force this other one on him, try to turn him into a human weapon. But then his closest and dearest friend, the galra he trusts more than anyone else and loves, removes that corruption and breaks that awful spell. Helps to give him a new arm that’s entirely his own, gives hm back some sense of autonomy and control over himself, helps him feel like his body is his own again and no one can take that away from him. It’d just be very good for Shiro I think.

And I mean, I think this is even sort of foreshadowed–in Shiro’s flashback, he yells at a galra medic “You took my hand! What more do you want?” And which hand, which arm is it that he lost? The right one. And when Keith heals his own hand with quintessence, you know which one that is? Yeah, it’s the same one.

Um i saw art being stolen on youtube without credit what should i do i saw one had their signture

You can report the video on YouTube itself if it’s got stolen content. There’s a number of different avenues for that, if you go scouring around YouTube FAQ you should find it.

imagine the Winchester brothers having youtube channels.

Dean runs a varied sort of channel. There are cooking videos, videos of him talking about new albums or old albums, talks about movies, songs he’s covering, driving videos; there’s a bit of everything on there.

Sam’s is more focused on health and wellbeing. He does work out routines, rates restaurants/food reviews, gives food advice or life advice in general. He’s focused more on a positive and healthy channel.

Are you in a toxic online political group?

I’ve lurked in a lot of online political groups since I arrived on the Internet — reddit’s TumblrinAction and TheBluePill/TheRedPill, YouTube gay & anti-sjw channels, and all sorts of Tumblr groups, including radical feminists and social justice activists — as well as their subsets on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc. I’ve seen so many feuds and SO much nastiness; I’ve largely avoided getting caught up in it myself, but you spend too much time in any of these “communities,” and you find yourself thinking some really terrible things. So here are some questions I’ve put together that you can ask yourself to discern whether the political group you’re part of is doing you more harm than good.

  1. Does the group set itself up in opposition to another group? Not every group that’s focussed on bringing down another group is terrible, but at the very least you shouldn’t spend all your time in them: that “those who fight monsters” saying is very true. You may start finding the toxic beliefs of the opposing group “make sense.”
  2. If the group is opposed to another group — how much do you really know about them? Are they really a cohesive group with a specific set of beliefs? Or are they just targets for which you can blame almost anything? Is there existence used as a threat — is it a threat for someone to call you such?
  3. If you think about leaving the group or disagreeing with one of the group members, does it make you scared? How would people react? How many friends would you lose if you did? This isn’t to say that bigotry doesn’t justify ending a friendship… but much of the time, that’s not what’s going on there.
  4. Are those who disagree with the political group (not oppose, just disagree) terrible people? Do you find yourself thinking of them as the “enemy” — are you immediately suspicious of them? Is there pressure (overt or covert) to cut them off completely? Do you feel unsafe around non-members because they’ll never really understand? Do you ever see them being dehumanized, threatened with violence, told to commit suicide? Do group members receive criticism for being too nice to non-group members?
  5. Is it very easy to get labelled as dangerous/horrible/disgusting for disagreeing or questioning? In many groups, particularly social justice groups, I’ve seen the following arguing style: “if you think X, then that means you believe X (or you’re part of X group), which means you’re horrible.” In other words, “if you’re not 100% with us, you’re against us.” This gives no room for expanding or questioning your beliefs.
  6. Are there certain group members who are beyond reproach? Many political groups idolize certain people and/or groups of people, sometimes without their consent. In other cases, leaders might be able to lead group-hunts of certain members. In extreme cases, this might allow group leaders to abuse other group members.
  7. Do you see unsubstantiated statistics and “facts” being passed around as Gospel? Do people spread articles and stories without fact-checking — without even caring whether they’re correct or who wrote them?
  8. Does being in the group take you to emotional extremes — fear, joy, anger? Politics can obviously affect your emotions, since they can touch on personal topics, but they shouldn’t dominate your emotions or your life. At best, this indicates over-involvement in a group — at worst, a group that demands full emotional involvement.

This list isn’t exhaustive, nor is it targeted at a specific group: many, many political groups (some of which vehemently oppose each other) that I’ve looked at have displayed these behaviours. If you recognize these signs, please take a moment to step back from your community. Go offline. Speak to someone who isn’t involved with the politics. Write out your thoughts and fears. Take care of your mental health. It’s okay if you still adhere to the group’s beliefs, but please, take care of yourself first. Then take care of others. Then, looking out for yourself and others, allow yourself to get re-involved in politics.

Heyo! Do you know how they're gonna air the Seo Taiji/BTS concert? Is it gonna be on a Korean show or tv channel of some sort? Or are they gonna make us suffer and wait for the DVD to come out?? Thank you ❤️ have a good day 🎈

We will probably suffer, as I see them making a DVD out of it. Because as for now there is no news of anyone airing it. So let’s hope for quality fancams. The boys will be lit.

I’ve been a fan of the original Blade Runner film since I was a kid watching it without my mom’s permission. It’s one of those rare instances where I think that film adaptation is superior to the subject material; because Blade Runner is a more interesting look at the ethics of synthetic life than Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? ever was. The film!Roy Batty shows us that the androids were capable not only of empathy, but of mercy, fear, love, and grief.

On top of all that, the design and art direction in Blade Runner was unlike anything I had ever seen. The sets, props, and moody film-noir-meets-cyberpunk aesthetic are still astounding to me even now. Pair that with the unique score by Vangelis and it’s easy to see why the film is such a classic of sci-fi cinema.

So to say that I was excited for Blade Runner 2049 is an understatement. When I first saw the trailer I was instantly intrigued because it’s not a reboot. It’s a sequel! And from what I could tell, immersive, real and tangible sets (as opposed to over-the-top CGI) mimicking the style of the 1982 original were being used as well.

I saw the new film tonight and I was not disappointed. It has the same atmosphere created by the original but with updated modern tech and quality.

Ryan Gosling is epic, channeling the same sort of devastatingly handsome and cool loner that he portrayed in Drive. At the same time, even playing a replicant/android, I really connected with his character and got surprisingly emotional about his journey through the plot.

The story didn’t exactly wow me, although it wasn’t quite as predictable as I assumed. The best parts of this movie are the same things that made the original great–the design and art. It felt real even while it looked like the impossibly distant future.

Anyway, as a really picky sci-fi fan, I can’t recommend it enough. Just to give a  comparison, I thought Alien: Covenant was too riddled with plot holes to be enjoyable and that the drama was overblown and the gore gratuitous. After Prometheus, I had high expectations for the newest Alien and felt really let down by it.

Blade Runner is the opposite and I love it. Go see it!

Hello, Dark We know that Mark makes YouTube videos on video games, home challenges, charity streams and short film skits for entertainment purposes. However, what would you do if YOU had a YouTube channel? What sort of entertaining videos would you be willing to create and provide for us to watch? I hope this question doesn't sound too... bothersome, sir. Thank you for your time to read this, anyway. - Ellynore

“Oooh.”

The cooing sound of Dark’s interest was light and airy in comparison to the normal baritone that came from his speaking voice. He lifted his hands, and slowly rubbed his palms together, leaning back in his seat with a whimsical expression. A coy grin, and he speak with one leg crossing over the other.

“My dear lovely, what an inspiring question. One I myself have never had the time to think over. Might I add that I am quite fond of your work.”

The most swift wink coaxed one eye shut, before he continued.

“While of course a fascination with horror genre would be cliche, I do possess a desire to dive into sultry, wicked parts of the human world through the games they have created. To uncover such horrible monstrosities of the human mind by the generated worlds they make, to frighten, to insight, to terrorize. You would see quite a bit of horror games on my channel, and perhaps philosophy as to why and how it was made. On top of that, of course, I would like to explore my musical talents, and express my abilities with the cello and beyond. Poetry, musicals, opera, reading novels, all of that sorts would be found in blend and kind.”
