Buzzfeed Morning-Person-Challenge: Tag 2

See you tomorrow ;)

Day 27: Books + 5 Facts About You

Beauty and the Beast and Other Classic Fairytales

1. I do figure skating twice a week, one as a practice session and one as a lesson and do yoga on my days off to relax and keep my muscles flexible.

2. I would like to work for a book company when I am out of college but I am planning on going to graduate school after I finish my undergrad.

3. Speaking of undergrad, I am graduating in Spring of 2018 and am scared of graduating.

4. I am an organized person and need to have everything planned out before I do anything or I’ll end up completely turned around.

5. I always wanted to be like Belle from the Beauty and the Beast movie.

Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF) plays a well-characterized role in synaptic plasticity, neuronal survival, neurogenesis, and resilience to depression and other neuropsychiatric disorders. Most importantly, BDNF provides trophic support for existing neurons while encouraging the reorganization, growth and regeneration of new neurons and synapses. Upside-Down Fresh Cherry Sponge Pudding

The bad news:

I would have to say that this bake has been the biggest error I have made so far in my challenge. Visually, it’s not pretty. It doesn’t look much like it’s supposed to based on the picture in the book. The book shows a very dark almost cherry filling with the sponge underneath whereas my bake shows the sponge seeped down between the cherries while baking.

You can see in this picture that the cherries and cake are not divided but baked together and I think I know exactly where I went wrong. In the recipe it calls to stone the cherries with what I’m assuming would be a cherry pitting tool that removed the pit but leaves the rest of the cherry intact. Because I did not want to spend money on a cherry pitter for something I didn’t think would make a different I instead cut each cherry in half and pulled the pit out. Yes, I cut and removed the pits of an entire bag of cherries. It was kind of therapeutic. Unfortunately, I think the cherries needed to remain whole so that I could tightly fill the bottom of the spring form pan to prevent the sponge from seeping through. In the meantime I will just top it with some homemade whipped cream and pretend it’s fine.

The good news:

First and foremost, I know how to fix it for next time! Which means when I re-do the cookbook next year with my new knowledge, I will be able to perfect this recipe. Also, I personally found the bake to be really yummy despite it not being the most beautiful bake.I thought the sponge was buttery and a bit crumbly from the ground almonds. I think it makes for a great breakfast or brunch treat. I think the cherries could have tasted a little better but that could be either due to how I messed up the recipe or even to the fact that I’m not a huge fan of cooked fruit. A.J. and some friends that tried it actually said they thought it was a bit dry. I personally thought it was pretty buttery but everyone tastes things differently. Overall I am excited to try this recipe again in the future to fix my errors.

I’m also extremely excited that my parents are coming to visit today! Not only did I bake this pudding for my mom but I also have another loaf of that amazing bread from last week proofing. I’m going to have fresh baked bread and pasta with homemade pasta sauce for them when they arrive and then we are spending the weekend together on Lake Michigan. I get so unbelievably giddy about hosting, especially for those I owe so much to. It’s probably being raised with an Italian family but I just receive so much joy from cooking and feeding others.

And if anyone is wondering, I messed up on the order or bakes and the Little Pink Rose Cakes will actually be made next week for my coworkers baby shower.

Watch on
