I recently acquired Photoshop CC, so I figured I’d give it a whirl and do something that I’ve been meaning to get to for awhile. Being a huge fan of the legacy that is good ol’ Captain Marvel… what the hey, right? Perfect for your phone wallpaper and what not. Who knows, maybe I’ll make them available as prints.
Quick note: If you’re a fan of KSD’s Carol, do yourself a favor and try to check out all the other namesakes and their runs. It’s well worth it. Peter David’s Captain Marvel runs in particular are phenomenal.
This was Walter Simonson and John Buscema’s 1988 run of The Avengers. This incarnation of the team featured Thor, Captain Marvel (Monica Rambeau), Sub-Mariner, Namorita, She-Hulk, Black Knight and Doctor Druid.
Out of all the villains Steve has ever had, the new Baron Zemo aka Helmut Zemo is probably the meanest and cruelest SOB who is not just content by destroying Captain America but he has to destroy Steve Rogers emotionally as well,
In Avengers vol 1 #277 not only does Zemo break into Avengers mansion and hurt Steve’s friends, but he destroys every single scrapbook, photo, and relic of Steve’s memories.
Including the only photo of Sarah Rogers, Steve’s mother.
There are times when Helmut Zemo is really close to taking the spot for Steve Roger’s worst enemy from the Red Skull. Not to mention Bucky’s worst enemy since he was also the one who exposed Bucky as the Winter Soldier to the world, destroying his image and his career as Captain America.
Also I want Monica back with the Avengers, or at least some new Nextwave stuff.
EDIT: At some point Helmut restores Sarah’s picture and all of the stuff he destroyed during that raid in Thunderbolts #105 and gives them to Steve in an attempt to convince him that Zemo was reformed (he also had earlier jumped in front of Steve to protect him from an attack which messed up his face). Of course Zemo went back to hating Steve.
So Ava DuVernay (the director of Selma) reportedly met with Marvel this week to discuss the possibility of directing one of Marvel’s upcoming movies. While Black Panther is an obvious choice, why not Captain Marvel? Especially since Captain Marvel doesn’t necessarily have to be Carol Danvers – she can be Monica Rambeau!
