I remember when we first moved into our neighborhood and began removations on our house. What use to be a trap house, is what we now call home. God’s always in the business of making crooked things beautiful.
My husband met a couple of young boys from the community and immediately bonded with them. Those boys helped tear down walls, pull up carpet, clean out junk all in efforts to help us build a home here. We were committed to the hood for the long haul. We started our first summer camp and some of those boys were apart of it. Rough edges, harden hearts, broken homes. It was obvious that if The Lord didnt intervene in their lives death or prison was the only outcome. Getting kicked out of school and being forced to attend a behavioral program to help change things is not the answer. Long hours of psychologized counseling won’t help. Medication will NOT fix any of the brokeness we witness on a daily. If the Holy Spirit isn’t living and active in the life of a person change isn’t coming.
About a week ago, one of those young men finally did what we feared, yet sadly expected would happen if the Lord didn’t intervene. Just turning 18, he murdered another young man in our community who by Gods grace heard the gospel and had begun submit to Jesus in efforts of changing his life.
We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. -Romans 8:22
My heart breaks, I’m sadden and hate things ended in this way.
Our community is shaken and many are holding their sons tight, praying that they aren’t next to pull the trigger or have the trigger pulled on them.
We desperately need Jesus. Our only HOPE of redemption, our ONLY refuge in the time of a storm.
We know fatherlessness plays a HUGE role in this. Lack of godly men, manly men play a part in the recent out burst of crimes in my hood and many others. Broken family structure all play a role in the crime of our cities. It’s always been the enemy’s number one attack from the jump!
My hope today and prayer is to sit on the promise of God that says He will He will turn the hearts of the parents to their children, and the hearts of the children to their parents.(Mal.4:6) ultimately returning all those who are willing to repent to the hands of the Savior that is to come. Bringing salvation, reconciliation, peace and godliness to our families.
I pray! Oh!! how I pray we don’t witness the latter part of that verse…..
…or else I will come and strike the land with total destruction.”
Lord may it never be!
