There’s a massive winter storm bearing down on the Northeast. If you’re in its path, now’s the perfect time to grab a book and a hot drink.

Who am I kidding? It’s always the perfect time to grab a book and a hot drink! We put out a call to our twitter followers, asking them to recommend their favorite books to read when the thermometer drops and the snow piles up.

Some people chose books that would put a storm in perspective:

@nprbooks The Terror by Dan Simmons. Arctic Circle expedition. Ice. Scurvy. Stalking monstrous terror. The snow won’t seem so bad at home.

@nprbooks The Long Winter by Laura Ingalls Wilder. Now that was SNOW

… a few folks opted for the more escapist route. “Snow? What’s snow?”

@nprbooks Joan Didion when writing about Southern Cal or Central-South America. Or Hawaii (Democracy, eg)
