What really gets me, though, is that, while I agree that shipping real people IS kind of problematic, it’s totally ok if it’s heterosexual.
You see so many articles in the rainbow press that feature ridiculous rumours about celebtrities that are clearly not in a relationship. But it’s ok to write this shit because it’s hetero.
The actors may be uncomfortable but nobody cares because, come on, it’s just rumours.
This is shipping too. The media’s been shipping people ever since its invention.
But once the speculation reaches homosexual levels, god forbid, we have to make sure nobody posts stuff about this because PRIVACY! IT MAKES THEM UNCOMFORTABLE! IT’S CREEPY TO SHIP REAL PEOPLE!
Let me tell you one thing:
If an actor openly speaks up against rumours of gay relationships in a negative way while not caring about rumours about which girl he’s fucking or not fucking, then excuse me, but I don’t feel an OUNCE of sympathy for homophobes like that.
It’s 2014. If you feel uncomfortable being shipped, fine, but fuck you if the only problem you have is slash.
