For St. Patrick's Day...

Father Boland’s Gaelic Coffee:

With the South’s large population of Irish descent (myself included), and Savannah’s famous St. Patrick’s Day Parade, Irish Coffee is a popular drink on the Front Porch on March 17.

The most essential step of properly making Irish Coffee is in the preparation. Heat your glass or cup with boiling water and pour it out. Use it on dishes or something to rectify the Ireland past brushes with austerity.

Now, fill the cup three-fourths of the way full with piping hot coffee. Add two teaspoons of brown sugar and stir vigorously. Add one jigger (minimum) of good Irish liquor (Scotch may be substituted but is considered sacrilegious) and stir briskly.

Nearly top the glass to the brim, but leave a little room for the whipped cream. Now, take the whipped cream and pour it slowly over the back of a hot spoon so that it floats on top of the coffee.

Sit back, relax, and yell obscenities at someone. It’s fucking St. Patrick’s Day!

1)   Mexican is not a race, but a nationality. There are White, Black, First Nation and Asian Latinos.

2)   There are White pride events celebrated every year on St. Patrick’s Day and other holidays. If you live in the U.S., White history is what we were primarily taught even though my family has been in the U.S. for over three hundred years and first Nations have been here even longer.

3)   Islam is not a race, but a religion. There are Muslims of every color and from every culture.

4)   Because of White supremacy groups have to instill this pride or else we are doomed. Asian and Black nations underrepresented in the media, culture and global politics even though they are two of the world’s largest racial groups.

5)   There is nothing wrong with celebrating your culture. Be proud to be Irish. Ireland has an incredible history. Be proud to be Scottish. They thrived despite being colonized by the English. Be proud to be English, Russian and others because they have a rich history.

Prosecutors explain decision not to pursue charges against Martese Johnson

VA News | CHARLOTTESVILLE (WJLA) – Prosecutors in Charlottesville spent a lot of time today explaining in great detail why they decided not to pursue charges against UVA student Martese Johnson, who they determined did not commit a crime during St. Patrick’s Day celebrations early on the morning of Sunday, March 18.

Charlottesville commonwealth’s attorney Dave Chapman held a presentation also detailing the choice not to charge the 3 ABC officers involved in the incident. Chapman said his office interviewed 52 people as part of the investigation, including Johnson, the officers, and other eyewitnesses. He said he would not have hesitated to charge the ABC officers if he believed their actions were malicious or racially motivated, but found no evidence of that. Chapman also said the agents were justified in approaching Johnson after he was turned away from a bar early on March 18 in an area near UVA called The Corner.

Cell phone video captured Johnson being thrown to the ground by the agents, his head bleeding. Chapman released new video of the incident today from a different perspective.

Martese Johnson’s attorney, Daniel Watkins, released a statement late Wednesday, which included this:

“We are thankful that the criminal prosecution against Mr. Johnson has been terminated and he is excited today to celebrate his 21st birthday in a safe and responsible manner.”

Watkins also saying it is, and has always been, their position that police lacked justification to seize Johnson in the first place.

Johnson will start his 4th year at UVA in the fall and said last week this experience has motivated him to dedicate his future to social justice. http://www.wjla.com/articles/2015/06/prosecutors-explain-decision-not-to-pursue-charges-against-martese-johnson-114838.html | via WJLA News
