Traders looking for rebound in Carnival

Carnival dropped sharply yesterday, but traders are betting that the cruise-line operator will rebound in coming months.

optionMONSTER’s monitoring program shows that 2,700 July 49 calls were purchased for $1.35 to $1.57 yesterday. This represents new positions, as open interest in the strike was only 333 contracts before the session began.

Long calls lock in the price where investors can buy stock, allowing them to profit from a rally with limited capital at risk. Their cheap cost can also generate significant leverage on a percentage basis if shares move in the right direction. (See our Education section)

CCL fell 4.11 percent to $47.59 yesterday after Morgan Stanley cut estimates for rival Royal Caribbean Cruises, citing lower ticket prices. But Carnival, which is up 2 percent in the last three months, reported bullish quarterly results on March 30 and is expected to announce its next earnings numbers on June 23.

Overall option volume in CCL was 5 times greater than average yesterday.
