if anyone was wondering how good my grotto is, two cavers who cave with us, including the leader of the DMC trip today, are going on the Cheve expedition. one of them, a cave diver, will be there from now until May, and when he gets back I plan to go to Hellhole with him.
The Mammoth Cave in Kentucky is said to be haunted by Floyd Collins, an explorer who died there in 1925 after his leg was pinned under a rock. He was located shortly afterward, but rescuers weren’t able to get to him. He was stuck for two weeks and died just a few days before help managed to get through.
Cavers claim to have heard screams and pleas from the small cavern where he was trapped, which has now been sealed shut. There are even reports of whiskey bottles being thrown at people who approach. One woman claims that the ghost of Floyd saved her from a fall by catching her and pulling her back from a ledge.
America’s other Mammoth Cave—this one in Colorado—is also steeped in a history of bloodshed. Locals call it a “keeper,” which refers to the bodies of those who died there. It’s simply too dangerous to retrieve them, and so the cave keeps the corpses of the lost in its eternal clutches. The most dangerous spot is known as Angel Falls, a 23-meter (75 ft) drop that’s claimed three lives. Yet the most sinister part of the cave’s reputation is the claim that it was once home to a dangerous coven of witches.
The stories say that during the late 1970s, the cave was home to five evil warlocks, named Randy, Sunshine, Lobo, Patches, and Cowboy. The coven killed small mammals and drank their blood. Another report states that two girls saw the warlocks throwing a pregnant woman to her death in the cave. The cave was eventually sealed, and the witches were never found.
“It sounded like a roaring train,” said “Sweeny” Sewell, describing the noise a second before a waterfall exploded into Hang Son Doong through the Watch Out for Dinosaurs doline, or sinkhole opening. A rare dry-season downpour produced the thundering runoff. Were the cavers scared of drowning? “Maybe if it were a smaller cave,” said expedition leader Howard Limbert, “but not here.”
6 Tiny Cavers, 15 Odd Skeletons, and 1 Amazing New Species of Ancient Human
6 women with experience in archaeology or paleontology excavated the bones of a new species of ancient human, or hominin, which the team named Homo naledi. The bones were excavated from an underground cave that could be accessed through a gap just 18 cm wide. The women’s knowledge and smaller frames allowed them to squeeze through the gap and led to one of the greatest collections of hominin fossils ever.
The cavers include Marina Elliott, Elen Feuerriegel, K. Lindsay, Alia Gurtoy, Hannah Morris, and Becca Peixotto.

In Carlsbad, New Mexico, the Chosa Draw Area of Critical Environmental Concern contains 2,200 acres of hydrologically-important gypsum karst. Gypsum is a soft sulfate mineral that can be used as a fertilizer and in many forms of plaster and blackboard chalk.
The area has been determined to have one of the densest concentrations of
karst features, including Parks Ranch Cave. The cave, at 4.3 miles in length,
is the second longest gypsum cave in the Western hemisphere.
Close by to world-famous Carlsbad Caverns National Park, Parks Ranch Cave is a
good spot for beginning cavers to explore.

First and foremost, Dean has to figure out a way to overcome this weakness he’s feeling whenever he’s around Amara,” says Caver. “And not only acknowledge it within himself, but with his brother, and really figure out what that means for the fight ahead. This is all notwithstanding how the brothers will react once they eventually realize that Lucifer has possessed Castiel. Once they’re in possession of that knowledge, things will take a very different turn for them, and the battle will become much wider and much more personal.
I know there is a great deal of concern going around about the framing of Dean and Amara in a romantic capacity, rather than that of a seemingly infinite being asserting her control over the one true tie to her freedom.
Carver is a master of saying a lot and saying absolutely nothing at the same time, and in this interview, he leaves us with a lot of questions but his words were carefully chosen to convey the true heart of the story here.
This is a season where, essentially, all of Team Free Will have been given very specific character arcs. Sam is facing questions about his choices in his past and who he has become as a result. Dean is facing the consequences of his choices and is tasked with finding a means by which to overcome his demons - now personified - and emerge stronger for it. And Cas is suffering the fallout from his loss of faith, loss of purpose, and now his loss of self. And it comes down to family having your back through it all. It comes down to love giving you strength and purpose and the will to keep fighting the damned war.
This isn’t about losing a soldier to the fight. What has happened to Cas is going to make this battle real, something worth dying for if it means bringing Cas back home. Because he’s worth it. Because they would die to prove to Cas that he is goddamned worth it.
My point, really, is that Dean and Amara aren’t endgame here. It’s not even in the cards. Because once Dean finds out the truth about what happened to Cas, the reasons why he said yes to Lucifer - he’s not going to rest until he gets him back and there will be no force in the Universe powerful enough to stop him. Acknowledging his weakness is the first step towards combating Amara, but once the acknowledgment is there, the fear dissipates. And once the fear is gone, she starts losing her control over him.
Dean is one stubborn sonuvabitch when it comes to following his heart and committing to a cause. And that cause - the one that is going to save him and break the connection to Amara - it’s Cas.
