During my USJ visit, I was able to check out the Gintama Live Talk as well, and it was utterly magnificent!

  • The “live talk” was done via 3 big screens, with the one in the center showcasing Gintoki, Kagura, and Shinpachi in the Yoruzuya office, while the other screens would usually be reserved for other characters–save for the Elizabeth Talk portion. Even as other things were happening in other screens, there were some nice idle animation to make sure that there wasn’t reduced to basically a still shot, such as Shinpachi (iirc) wiping his glasses or Kagura and Gintoki picking their noses.
  • A woman by the name of Jenny serves as host/MC for the event, and was the one who would be directly talking to the characters or reaching out to certain audience members.
  • The show was broken up into 3 portions: Yorozuya live talk, Elizabeth talk, Shinsengumi/special guest talk
  • Yorozuya Talk consisted of Gintoki having Jenny go out into the audience and select any willing audience member to “talk” to–the 3 would have their pre-scripted dialogue while Jenny would be doing things live, and at times would have to rush through to make it in time for the next portion of the script.
    • Each question involved creating some humorous photo-op with an audience member (as there was a camera person to guide the camera around to focus on whoever Jenny picked). The first was Gintoki posing like a sparkly, handsome bishounen right beside the first audience member that Jenny selected. OTL I forgot what Shinpachi’s pose was, but it was certainly one that had him vehemently complaining over. Kagura’s consisted of her being dressed as Luffy from One Piece. After each audience member had their shine, Jenny would gift them with a special postcard featuring these poses.
  • At one point, Sakamoto literally crashes the live talk (as in, you see his ship burst through right above the main middle screen), and is suddenly joined by Katsura, who performs the Katsurap~
  • Elizabeth Talk was began with PYROTECHNICS GOING OFF AND H A R D  R O C K MUSIC. It was handled akin to the live, interactive rides you see in Disneyland–that is, a CGI Elizabeth stands in the middle, and depending on what an audience’s name/answer is, it’s sign and responses will change accordingly for that particular participant.
    • Elizabeth legit demands excessive and intense applause from the audience, the amount of “Motto! Motto! Motto!” increasing with each passing second
    • There’s actually a quiz question in which Elizabeth asks for the audience to answer intentionally obscure, difficult questions. In this case, it was answering just what was said on Elizabeth’s sign during a Golgo 13 parody and there was actually a 10 year old boy in the audience who answered correctly and received an Elizabeth postcard as a prize
    • When Elizabeth’s talk ends, it lowers to the ground while its mouth opens and those glowing eyes flash menacingly while its sign says “I’LL BE BACK”, which Jenny read it out in the Terminator voice~
  • THE SHINSENGUMI/SPECIAL GUEST TALK LEGIT BEGINS WITH HIJIKATA, SOUGO, AND KONDOU DRESSED UP AS MINIONS AND SINGING THE BANANA SONG BEFORE GINTOKI IMMEDIATELY PUTS A STOP TO THIS WITH SOUGO’S RPG
    • Special guests brought in by the Shinsengumi are revealed, consisting of Abuto and Kamui
    • THE AUDIBLE G A S P THAT WAS EMITTED BY FAN GIRLS ALL AROUND WHEN KAMUI MADE HIS CAMO DURING THE LIVE TALK
    • An audience-wide game of rock, paper, scissors ensues, and you all get to play against Hijikata, Kondou, and eventually Gintoki because Sougo and Kamui were too busy fighting to care about the live talk~
    • IIRC some snide marks about one another’s brats between Hijikata and Abuto is what causes a standoff between the Yato and the Shinsengumi
    • THIS SEGMENT HECKIN ENDS WITH TAKASUGI CRASHING THE LIVE TALK AND WREAKING HAVOC UPON EVERYONE
  • With all the chaos that occurs, the event ends with Gintoki offering his thanks to the audience, just before everyone is treated to a cute slideshow of all the characters hanging out at USJ!
    • Gintoki, Kagura, and Shinpachi go to the Jaws ride
    • Kamui looking gleeful as can be as he rides on what I believe is the Flying Dinosaur ride
    • MINION!SHINSENGUMI AND WATER GUNS. THAT IS ALL
