In ancient astrology the 6th House was known to show the affairs of one’s slaves and servants. Though in our modern society we consider pets as one of the family, in ancient times pets were kept as part of the workforce. They had a job to do, and thus these creatures fell into the same class as others under one’s dominion. Dogs were kept for herding sheep, hunting, or as guards and cats were invited in to kill mice and other small pests. The horses pulled carts while the bull might pull the plow. The translation of this ideology can be seen in the lineages of ritual magic, where magickal work is done through repetition (6th House). Pets are Familiars, and they also play an important role/have an important job to do in protecting their owners from dark and dangerous spirits and energies.
