cas has fallen

The angels – they don't care.

I think maybe they just don’t have the equipment to care. Seems like when they try, it just… breaks them apart.

- Dean 7x21.

This, in the same episode as:

This is to me when Dean hypothetically gives up on whatever he had thought were his feelings towards Cas.

He believes these kind of feelings if they were ever potentially reciprocated would break Cas and not only does he have his own baggage but this is not what he wants for Cas.

This is where he starts really repressing it, while at the same time coming to really truly LOVE him over time rather than the initial overwhelming crush and intense, unwanted feelings.

It’s amazing to watch him simultaneously repress and develop this feelings over the years, we see less physical indications of attraction and throwaway flirty comments but heaps more emotional indications of love and affection.

All leading up to this moment in 12x12 where he sees how far Cas has fallen, how much he is broken and, tellingly, Cas tells Dean it is his doing.

Of course Dean is upset and angry. He’s upset and angry with himself.

Now he needs to accept not only Cas’s own decisions and desires but to accept that he himself is worthy of those decisions and desires that apply to him it in order to reciprocate.

And of course there’s a lot more stuff that is already being addressed as everyone has been meta-ing about like mad since, well, a long time, but this has all become hugely more textual and more resolved this season especially.

Now there isn’t much left in the way apart from Dean’s own emotional baggage, which is also being addressed this season in a BIG way.

Exciting times.

anonymous asked:

he /thought/ he was in love, but instead actually obsessed... so did ishim think cas was obsessed with dean but hes actually in love 🤔

ask n. 2   “ishim is a monster incapable of healthy love” That’s why I don’t really like that comparison. They got compared to something that wasn’t really love, but more like a stalker obsessed with a poor woman.

(This turned way too long, so here’s a recap: I discuss the comparison between Ishim and Cas /and respective relationships with humans/, which tells us who Cas is by contrast; I also draw a parallel between Ishim and Godstiel, aka Cas’ darkest side – that Cas still managed to overcome on his own, because despite everything he’s always had a good heart and good intentions; also, are we supposed to reconsider the nature - platonic or potentially romantic - of Dean and Cas’ relationship in s6?)

Hello there, my friends! Unfortunately, you have just opened a can of worms, since I was writing some meta on the parallel between Ishim and Cas.
To answer the first question, well, yes. Ishim (like many angels) doesn’t understand human feelings and emotions. Not only he’s a manipulative and abusive douchebag, he also lacks the experience to understand what love is (Cas, on the other hand, has been human..).
So, when he sees the bond between Dean and Cas, he compares it to what he knows. And what does he know? The love he knows is obsession, rotten to the core; the human he wanted never loved him back; he thinks she made him weaker (and this is just textbook abusive behavior). So when he sees how far Cas has fallen (subtext: for a human), of course he thinks Cas is in his same situation.

You know why we’re meant to stay away from them humans? Hmm? It’s not because we’re a danger to them. They’re a danger to us.

Yeah, he’s talking about both Dean and Sam, but casually Sam is never called Cas’ human weakness (context: we’re talking romantic love, throwback to Metatron saying Cas was in love with… humanity, just to point out one episode later that Cas’ goal was all about saving one human), nor he is in the climatic scene where Ishim goes after humani– erm, Dean (hint: Sam wasn’t supposed to be there because Cas loves Sam, but he’s not in love with Sam).

Now, on to question #2. Too much exposition is deadly to a story. A great way to show who a character is or what they’ve become is… to contrast them with who they’re not (same goes for relationships).

Coda to 13x06 “Tombstone” (AO3)

After Jack left, the high the Winchesters and Cas felt has fallen low. Cas feels like he’s failed once again… and Dean hates when that happens. He tries to distract him, to keep Cas’s mind away from those dark thoughts. But instead they stumble upon something that Dean’s been trying to avoid for awhile. But after everything they’ve been through… Dean’s tired. He can’t avoid it any more.

Anytime I read fic where Dean calls Cas "angel" as a pet name, I think of Cas confusedly calling Dean "human".

That’s the hilarious version. There is also the potentially owie version– if Cas has recently fallen (especially if it wasn’t his choice to do so), and Dean’s trying to be comforting or reassuring and calls him angel, it might have the opposite effect… at least until Dean can explain that Cas will always be his angel, and then he might salvage that one, but ow…

Let’s go back to the humorous version I think I like that one better.

Or when Cas does eventually choose to be human, if Dean called him angel Cas would just roll his eyes and remind Dean that he doesn’t actually think that’s a compliment, after all he did choose to be human. :P

sothatsagoodthing  asked:

Okay here goes: what's your favorite episode of Supernatural and why? ;)

Wooooah. This question is actually way harder than it seems.

My first reaction is to say “Lazarus Rising,” because not only is that episode absolutely nearly flawless from beginning to end, but it also gave us Castiel’s unforgettable entrance, as well as an ending that sent actual chills down my spine the first time I saw it. Keep in mind that I started watching SPN before the introduction of Cas, and I didn’t have the luxury of being drawn into the show knowing that Cas existed; watching that episode for the first time with no clue what was coming was INTENSE. That episode also reinvigorated my love of the show. I started watching back in S2, and S3 definitely suffered negative effects from the writers’ strike; I came out of the S3 finale feeling incredibly let down. (The S3 finale was exactly what I expected it to be – no big surprises.)

However… my absolute favorite has gotta be “The End.” Hands down.

I definitely have a thing for fucked up, dystopian futures. That’s actually a pattern with me. My first fandom was “Gargoyles,” and they have an episode called “Future Tense,” where the main antagonist of the show had taken over Manhattan and was aiming for the rest of the world. But lemme actually set this up for you – my two favorite characters were (are) Brooklyn, the second in command of the gargoyle clan, and Demona, the former lover of the leader of the gargoyles clan, who became an antagonist and wanted to destroy all of humanity. Brooklyn hated Demona. Like, would attack her on sight kind of hate. I shipped the crap out of them before I really knew what “shipping” meant.

In the ‘Future Tense’ world, though – BROOKLYN AND DEMONA WERE LOVERS.

And experiencing that gave me this immense love for all screwed up dystopian futures. X-Men’s “Days of Future Past,” BtVS’s “The Wish” - they’re all outstanding to me.

So then comes along “The End.” I am not only a sucker for dark and scary worlds, but also for when my favorite characters become dark and scary. Prior to the Mark of Cain arc, this was easily the darkest we’d ever see Dean get, so that hit my buttons, too. I loved “On The Head of a Pin,” but I initially walked out of the episode a little disappointed because I was hoping to see MORE from Torture Master!Dean. “The End” finally gave me a slightly unhinged, ruthless version of Dean that I’d been craving for literally years.

When I first saw the episode I was 100% convinced that it was an illusion created by Zachariah – Future Dean’s words sounded more like Zach than Dean, and that was just clever writing. However, all of the characters still had the potential to become what they had in that world. I especially loved what they did with Cas – he became Dean to the the extreme. It wasn’t just diving headfirst into sex, booze, and drugs – it was also him mouthing off and questioning Dean’s orders (which is exactly what Dean had done to him the entire year in the season prior to this).

In the later years, though, “The End” has given me one of my more painful headcanons – Dean remembers that Cas, and how broken he was. Don’t forget that “The End” was also right on the heels of “Free to Be You and Me,” where Dean took Cas to a brothel and encouraged him to have sex. After seeing how screwed up Cas had become – how much Dean had screwed him up – Dean hasn’t suggested sex to Cas since then, and even somewhat distances himself from Cas. It’s been driven into him again and again by Cas’s “family” that Dean is the reason Cas has fallen so far, so I feel like this world – illusion or not – has really influenced how Dean presents himself to Cas. (It also works into my much happier headcanon that Cas makes Dean want to be a better person.)

The episode is also just gorgeous. From the opening scene in the screwed up world, where it’s shot to make it feel like the city is watching Dean, to the jittery camera when the army slaughters the infected people… and then there’s the fact that we had Double Deans. Double Pretty.

(“The End” also resulted in me writing a really screwed up fic that I am still fairly proud of.)

Honorable Mentions: Nightshifter, Crossroad Blues, In The Beginning, The Song Remains the Same, The Executioner’s Song

amwritingmeta  asked:

Which are your five favourite scenes with Dean and Cas? (And why, if you please.) xx

Oh you! GAH this is so hard man… OK working backwards:

5. The whole of 12x10...but if I had to choose one, probably the diner scene.

Dean is not a man of words and he generally is pretty reserved with his feelings (obvs!) around Cas, but here he is just Mr Leave My Husband Alone! The upset at not going in with Cas, the pacing, the fact that Sam knew he would barge in, the postulating in front of Ishim, so Ishim has their relationship pegged after 2 seconds, the lack of personal space, telling Ishim to go to hell for insulting Cas and themselves when he was just moments ago pulling Cas’s ass over the metaphorical hot rocks himself…

If this isn’t Dean showing how much he cares for the guy (platonically or romantically I don’t really mind, the caring is what stuck for me here), I don’t know what this is :)

4. The MoC!Dean / Cas scene of 10x22. This was so painful but so necessary. For me it shows just how much Cas can see Dean has fallen, he truly feels that he is losing him. I head canon that Cas could feel Dean’s longing waning, his soul fading as he fell further into the MoC and the Darkness, hence the way he acted towards him was different, kind of… cold? During this whole arc? I thought it was really subtle but key and I loved that, culminating in this moment where he tries desperately to get Dean to hang onto the remains of himself.

The key thing here for me is that Cas doesn’t fight back, he lets Dean pummel him to pieces because he doesn’t want to hurt Dean, even though it isnt really Dean, he can’t bring himself to. Then in the end, he isnt begging for himself, for his own life, for me he is begging Dean not to kill him to save Dean from himself… *insert sobbing noises here*

3. This Casifer scene from 11x18, where Dean pours his heart out. Where Crowley, Sam, Rowena, Lucifer and Amara can all see, where Amara and Lucifer both acknowledge that they noticed this, where Amara subsequently uses Cas to get to Dean (so God’s sister has to use a ‘small fry’ Angel to get through to Dean? Because they’re such good buddies? Please!) and manipulate him (and it works), man I just so want Lucifer to mention it please!

I love that there is both Cas and Lucifer in this scene. How Cas’s response to realising he saw Dean calling to him is so sweet, one of the rare smiles we ever get from him, how Dean is so desperate through this whole arc but in this moment just lets everything down to try to get through to him, not giving a damn about everyone else in the room….

2. The whole of 9x06 man.

But if I had to choose one, probably the goodbye scene just because that is the most emotional after the whole episode’s built up emotional drama. The angst. The pain. Dean has always lusted after Cas, he then really fell for him emotionally and felt rejected in season 8. Cas didn’t truly understand, he had emotions, more than a normal Angel, that’s why he is different, he always had “too much heart” but it’s not until he fell that I think he truly realised that he loved Dean. This episode is where they finally were on the same page and finally alone. Dean had heart eyes throughout the whole freaking episode, Nora assumed Steve was queer and that Dean was his ex, Dean knew Cas was hurting and just tried to help… it was a whole episode of man pain… which ended in another separated due to outside circumstances…. always the adios man...

1. The bedroom / mixtape scene in 12x19.

I just wrote a whole thing summarising this, for me it is so amazingly important. It takes all these previous moments and kind of smooshes them together, taking 9 years of miscommunication, pain, love and friendship and taking it to the next level on all of these with a huge leap forwards in their communication and actually using their words to describe how they fell towards themselves and each other. It’s so beautiful, seriously!

Dean:  Just let me give myself to you.
Please stop leaving me. I forgive you.

Cas:   I just want to protect you. I don’t deserve to have you.

Dean: Of course you do dumbass.

Cas:   No, I don’t. Not yet. I will save you even if it costs me my life.
Just let me give myself for you.

100 Ways To Say “I Love You” No. 30

“One more chapter.” [AO3]

Requested by @zealous-whispers-of-us | Human!AU, established relationship, bedtime fluff :)

Dean walks into the room just gone ten o’clock, tired after what felt like the longest day in history at work and then dinner with his brother. He sees his long term boyfriend already in bed, lights low and reading a book. It’s one Dean has already read and recommended to him a week ago. Castiel is already halfway through it.

Dean strips down to his boxers and slips underneath the cool covers without so much as a word to Cas as he knows how engrossed he gets. He smiles, he can see him mouthing the words on the page, his pinked lips moving ever so slightly but Dean feels like he could read the words off them if he wanted to. He’s beautiful like this, Dean has told him several times about the way his eyes look so much bluer in the low light.

Shuffling closer, Dean pokes his head through the gap between Cas’ arm and the book, resting on Cas’ stomach.

“Hey,” Dean says quietly and he earns a quick hand carding through his soft hair. He relishes the touch and presses a kiss to Cas’ wrist as it’s the only place he can reach without moving too much.

“Did you have a good day? You were home late.” Cas says distracted by the words on the page.

“Long. Dinner with Sam seemed to go on longer than expected though. I mean, it was fine, it was nice to catch up with him but I’m just tired.”

“We’ll have an early night then,” Cas suggests softly and he feels another hand card through his hair.

Dean hums a response as his eyelids droop close a little at the touch.

“One more chapter.” Cas announces more than asks.

“Those chapters are freakin’ long,” Dean slurs tiredly with a laugh. “Read quick,” He adds with another kiss to his wrist.

“Of course,” Cas says back with a chuckle.

Dean’s pretty sure he dozes off while Cas keeps on reading, at least until there’s a thump to his head.

When he looks up, Cas has fallen asleep and dropped the book. Huffing a laugh, he extricates himself from Cas and picks up the book. He smiles when he sees that he only managed two pages of the new chapter and places Castiel’s bookmark on the page before leaning over Cas to set the book on his nightstand.

“What time is it?” Cas croaks when he wakes up briefly.

“Only quarter to eleven; you fell asleep,” Dean tells him and shuffles back over towards his side of the bed and pulls Cas down with him.

Cas clicks of the light and turns over to the other side, pressing up behind Dean. He throws an arm over Dean’s waist and kisses the back of Dean’s neck.

“Goodnight,” Castiel says.

“Night, Cas.” Dean cranes his neck back and presses his lips to Cas’ in a quick kiss before settling down and closing his eyes.

Castiel sighs contentedly and presses closer into Dean as his breathing evens out and falls asleep.

“How is that shirt even remotely comfortable?”

“It’s not. Scoot over.”

Instead of moving, Cas just yanks Dean down onto the bed next to him and picks at the tight hem of the shirt sleeve. “Isn’t this cutting into your skin?”

“Yep.” Dean rolls over so he can pull Cas’ face against his chest. “I’ve been wearing your t-shirts to bed for two years, baby. Not going to stop now just because they don’t fit anymore.”

“To be fair, they’ve never fit, but…” Cas slips a hand to Dean’s hip and moves along the curve of his belly that the shirt couldn’t cover even if it tried. Just to make a point, Cas tugs the hem down fruitlessly.

Dean shifts, and his belly jiggles against Cas’ hand. “You haven’t done that since I was pregnant with A.J.”

“You haven’t been this—this—”

“The word you’re looking for is ‘fat,’ Cas.”

Cas takes his eyes away from Dean’s stomach and finds a smile on his face. He leans forward and kisses him, trying not to focus too much on the way Dean’s bare skin squishes against his t-shirt. “Yeah. Fat. Nobody’s giving you a hard time at work, are they?”

“I’m an omega with the scent of a scary possessive alpha on my clothes—trust me, nobody’s going to say a word if I look more pregnant than I did when I was actually pregnant.” Dean kisses Cas’ forehead. “Go to sleep, alpha.

Such Great Heights

Pairing: Castiel x Reader

Word Count: 1168

Characters: Reader, Castiel, Sam, Dean, Gabriel

Warnings: fluff

Theme Song: Such Great Heights by the Postal Service

Summary: Request from @x-compendiums-of-castiel-x : Can you write an imagine where Cas has fallen in love with reader and he talks to Sam and Dean but afterwards he still doesn’t really know what to do. Reader has been in love with him ever since she met him and so Gabriel gets involved to get the two together.

There will be a Part 2.

Castiel stood in front of Sam and Dean blocking their view of the bunker television. Dean groaned in annoyance, but Sam smile kindly at the angel and asked him if anything was wrong. Cas sighed in self defeat, taking a seat on the coffee table, facing the brothers. Dean recognizes the pained expression on his angel friend, straighten up in his seat, clearing his throat, “Cas, what’s going on man?” The angel looks up from his lap, meeting the two pair of eyes staring back at him. “How do you tell someone you have fallen in love with them?” Dean laughs with his whole body, clutching his stomach. Sam nudges him hard in the ribs, although he too is slightly amused at the angel’s dilemma, he knew better then to laugh.  Dean’s laughter quickly subdues, but a smirk remains on his face. He ask Cas who he was in love with. Castiel nearly panics, quickly getting up and telling the Winchesters to forget it. But Sam jumps up from his seat on the couch and grabs a hold of the angel’s shoulders. He turns Castiel around, the angel is clearly uncomfortable. “Sorry Cas, Dean’s an idiot. It’s Y/N, isn’t it?” Sam’s observation is completely on point, Castiel’s silence only answers the young Winchesters question. Castiel can’t contain the smile that wants to form when he hears your name slip from Sam’s lips. It was never the angel’s intention to fall in love, let alone with the women, the Winchesters had grown close to.

Cas kisses like he’s desperate for it, all tongue and teeth, one hand knotted in Dean’s hair and the other twisted in the front of Dean’s shirt. He crowds Dean back against a tree, and he makes a low, urgent noise deep in his throat; his thigh starts nudging between Dean’s, slow pressure, and it’s so unexpected that Dean wastes the first ten seconds of it standing there like a complete doof. Then he moans and pulls Cas closer – because it’s Cas, and Dean has wanted this longer than he cares to admit, and Cas is tugging on his hair in just the right way – but then his brain reboots and catches up with his dick and he tries to pull away because – well. Because.

“Be quiet,” Cas says, rough. “Just let me – let me.”

And Dean does, even though it’s a terrible idea – not the worst idea either of them has ever had but easily in the top twenty-five or thirty. Dean understands the needy, jittery adrenaline spike that comes with a good fight – it’s one of the reasons he used to hit the bars the minute he’d washed the blood and dirt from his hands and face – but Cas is still pretty new to this whole human thing, and he has only worked a few jobs without having everything buried under his grace. Dean shouldn’t kiss the skin below Cas’ ear, and he shouldn’t let his teeth catch on the cord of Cas’ neck, but Cas is hard against his hip and mouthing up the line of his jaw and it’s a just this once kind of night. They’re in the boondocks of Iowa, and it’s the middle of the night, and Sam is a town and a half over, shoveling cemetery mud back into Linus Wynham’s grave.

Not even the stars are watching; the sky is empty and black above their heads, heavier along the horizon where clouds are threatening rain.

I love the punkteen!Cas that people will write sometimes in high school au's. I just think it's a really perfect depiction of Cas, since he did rebel against heaven, multiple times. If Cas had been born and raised human, I don't think he'd be as awkward as canon!Cas is, since he would've grown accustomed to humans. I I just love Castiels that wear black, sneak out, skips church, smokes to piss off his family, and just has an air of coolness about him. What kind of Cas do you like best?

Or, The Best End!Verse Fic You Might Never Read

“Confess — confess you dog — and be candid — that it is the sublime of that there sort of writing […] it may be profligate but is it not life, is it not the thing?” [Lord Byron]

This—this what? this one enormous novel? series of four long novels? Der Ring des Nibelungen? 20-volume edition of the OED? epic love poem in paragraphs?—this is, is—oh god, y’all. It’s everything. It’s life, it’s the thing. It’s—I swear on a battered stack of Carver Edlund pulps: it’s everything you didn’t know you needed. And I am tragically convinced you won’t read it, because it’s a) exhaustive, if not exhausting; and b) pretty much utterly unlike everything else on AO3, anyway anything I’ve ever read (with the possible exception of—nope, all the other long fics I can think are embroidered complicated medieval crossovers, like Phrygian Choices by fresne, &/or a/b/o; whereas this is purely canon-divergent; the closest might be exorcisingemily‘s epic Before the Fall, which I also loved)? But that very difference is exactly why you should read it.

You might love it; you might hate it. You might drag it out over weeks or shotgun the way I did like huffing from an oxygen tank. I haven’t even been talking about it because I’m scared none of my friends will ever read it and love it as purely as I. Will you respect me less because I adore it? But I can’t repress my affections any longer!—per Beatrice, “Benedick, love on! I will requite thee!”

Right now there are three books: Map of the World, It’s the Stars That Lie, and A Thousand Lights in Space. A fourth, The Game of God, is supposed to start posting June/July of this summer. As with Robert Burton the prose quality varies deliciously and to be honest I can’t bring myself to care. Top ten, por vida.

[art by tkodami on AO3 | dustyjournal on tumblr]

The plot kicks off where you’d expect it to, with the scene at the end of “The End”: Sam said yes in Detroit, and Dean throws all his friends under the bus in Kansas City (including Cas) to take a shot at Lucifer with the Colt. He fails; Lucifer snaps his neck; so much for that. Then, as in much of fanon (as writers vie with one another to see who can be even crueler to Cas than the SPN team), Lucifer gloatingly leaves his brother alive to suffer not only the end of the world but also the loss of Dean (better known to some as “humanity”). Though not without offering Cas, who has arduously, excruciatingly Fallen in the worst possible way, various exit strategies, all unsavory, all refused:

Lucifer is so still he could be a figure carved in marble. "That’s your answer?”

“I thought that was clear, but to observe the formalities: get thee hence. Be gone. Go away.” Castiel grins, feeling his lips crack and tasting fresh blood on his tongue. “Fuck yourself.”

But! Plot twist! Dean suddenly shows up, to his and Cas’s mutual bewilderment—three years, for him, after Cas in 2009 dragged him out of Zachariah’s 2014. In Dean’s timeline, of course, he and Sam stopped the Apocalypse, so he’s not too happy to be in a world where he failed. Cas, still in shock, smuggles him into Chitaqua and hides him until Dean can pass himself off as 2014!Dean, whom they don’t reveal was killed in Kansas City. And then, since the world somehow…seems to be…not really ending, they kind of look around them and go, huh—well, this place sure needs some work, since we’re all still alive.

So they start fixing the camp. And each other. And then they hatch a daring plan.

Okay that’s enough of that now I need to start flailing. Because this thing is the Infinite goddamned Jest of end!verse.

So first of all, you know all those times when the damn characters just move on to the next damn ganking and never talk about anything, even really stupidly obvious things like what they’re actually doing or their goals or where the hell is Cas and why’s he gone for days and days with no explanation, etc., etc., etc.?

Well, even though it’s the end of the world, there’s actually kind of a lot of downtime at Chitaqua, mysterious as that seems; so Dean and Cas sit around late at night and drink coffee (and sometimes a blinding homebrew which Dean calls the Eldritch Horror), and they try to figure out what’s going on, what happened and what they should do next; and they finally, finally talk. And talk.

Then, when they’re done talking, they talk for another fifty or sixty pages or so (I’m serious). They talk about cosmology, heaven, hell, purgatory, earth, good and evil and free will and false determinism, about the end of the world and what a Lucifer-sponsored apocalypse actually looks like (not so much Croatoan, it turns out, but horrifying singularity-shaped pockets of nothingness slowly encroaching upon and ultimately devouring reality itself).

There is more talking in Down by Agincourt than an Austen novel. Than all the Austen novels. No, scratch that—there is more talking than fucking Clarissa, and by the time this fanwork is finished there will probably have been more talking than all the novels of Richardson placed end to end reaching to the moon but those were outliers adn should not have been counted.

Chitaqua also by the way is populated with a gabillion OCs, and at first you won’t maybe love them but you won’t mind them, and that makes sense, because Dean, like you, doesn’t know any of them; but slowly Chitaqua becomes a community, becomes a home—becomes his home.

It is literally the slowest of all slow burns, and the wit is so subtle and dry and rustling so far down beneath the surface I think there’s a reason its three novels have barely 100-200 kudos apiece, though this also makes my chest burn with the unfairness of it all. I snortlaughed at least once per page, and had to put down my iObject sometimes because I was laughing too hard to hang onto it—but it’s subtle. Just insanely subtle. And, my god, it really has one of the best Castiels—turns out that 2014!Dean was such a jerkface not only had he not taught Cas the correct deployment of toothpaste but he also—well, let’s just say after losing Sam he was not a fucking exemplary human being. Dean is aghast to learn about Cas’s mistreatment, and careful and methodical with him, as with an animal that’s never been socialized; but once Castiel knows about things like spreadsheets and marginalia and color-coding and file folders with tabs, and predictable sleep schedules and washing your hands before dinner—once he’s had food that doesn’t come from a foil pouch, and especially once Dean teaches him to put sugar in his coffee—once he has all this on board, the Angel of Thursday becomes this fucking unstoppable BAMF PROJECT MANAGER OF THE LORD and Lucifer is not going to know what hit him. (Although to be honest it may not hit him until somewhere around word 700,000.)

Here’s Dean:

Peering through the beads, he spots Cas near the couch, looking the worse for wear and facing still-dressed camp members, and has to bite his lip to keep from grinning. That particular expression he knows from the inside out; it’s when Cas is pretty sure everything is going to hell and has hit the why-not stage of what to do next. In general, this ends in Cas doing things like taking on groups of archangels, carving Enochian into people’s bones, Molotov-cocktailing his brothers, and putting banishing sigils in unusual places for surprise-related purposes. Dean didn’t see his expression when he came to the conclusion opening up Purgatory was a workable plan, but he suspects it had looked a lot like this.

I loved this desperately, as much as some of my favorite 1,200-word or 10K stories. On the level, it got me through the worst patch since I got out of the hospital last year. There were days I endured pretty much so I could read more of it that night. Nightly coffee with Cas and Dean on the rooftop of that cabin was my version of anaesthetic Eldritch Horror.

As an example of its AP Kevin Tran-level nerd humor, one of Castiel’s recovering-addict projects is a random piece of translation he’s assigned himself, dealing with an ancient Coptic text about an Egyptian poetaster who falls in love with an, um, well, a hippopotamus. Cas entertains Dean during various dark hours with its lurid verse and terrible metaphors for the Nile and, uh, yeah, I don’t think I can even begin to explain its charm. Let’s just say that at some point you snicker every time you see the word “hippofucker.”

“not important to the story dean”

So please, seperis: know how much this means to your readers. Know you’re doing God’s work (if not Chuck’s, or hippofucker’s). In the meantime I’ll just—I’ll just wait here, then—frankly I’d wait a decade for the next update, patiently, contentedly. I’m also rereading it as soon I can (and probably, alas, performing various sordid scholarly acts of literary theory upon it, because some people can just never leave well enough the fuck alone). Thank you for your work.

for michelle! happy birthday <3

It used to be easy, hunting witches. All Dean had to think about were the evil pacts and the spewing fluids and his course of action became clear: track them down, kill them off.

Which is why it’s so annoying that this particular witch messes up the perfectly good routine Dean had settled into.

They track the witch down, like they always do, but this time, as they corner him, he looks so young and panicked that for a second, it gives them pause.

It used to be simple. Hunters good, witches bad. Nowadays, though, there’s the internet. There’re a lot more people just dabbling, not having any real ill intent. A lot more people getting into stuff they don’t know nearly enough about. Witchiness just isn’t what it used to be.

Honest to God, Dean catches himself thinking, “Kids these days.”

I have this headcanon that Dean has gorgeous handwriting, but has forced himself to write messy ever since a kid in high school told him that he “writes like a girl.”

But then, the dam that contains Dean’s feelings for Cas crumbles… and they have their first night together. They get lost in each other and it’s okay. It’s okay, Cas whispers to Dean. In the aftershocks, after Cas has fallen asleep, Dean stares. Watches Cas’ mouth part as he exhales, watches the small flutters of his eyelids as he dreams. Dean feels like himself for the first time.

Dean will wake first. And he will be hungry. He will gaze at Cas’ sleeping form with what - if he could see himself - he would call a dopey smile. He will not wake Cas. Instead, he will take a sheet of paper from the journal on his nightstand. It will be jagged, because he is tired and can’t be bothered to rip pages carefully, but he will take a pen and he will write.

Cas -
Went to get breakfast.
I’ll bring back those crescent rolls you like.
I love
Love y
Love, Dean.

ps: I love the way your hair sticks up in the morning. You look like a confused bird.

Dean won’t worry about his handwriting this time.

Cas will open his eyes a few minutes after Dean has sped off in the impala. The note will be on his chest and fall into his lap as he sits up in bed.

He will read the note. As he reads, he will trace his fingers, mouth parted in amazement, over the loops and curves and steeples of Dean’s beautiful lettering.

When he reads the post script, he will know what Dean meant, and he will touch his hand to his hair and find that it is, indeed, sticking up. He will smile.

anonymous asked:

Is it true that Cas has a hot piece of ass?

This rumor is DEBUNKED.

Unfortunately, we do not have a reliable, well-documented source of measurement for the temperature of any piece of Castiel’s buttocks.

However, we assume that Castiel’s entire ass experiences thermodynamic equilibrium, and is therefore all the same temperature. We also assume that, as Cas has fallen (as was the case when we received this ask; however we will assume for all intents-and-purposes that an envesseled angel is also in thermal equilibrium with its housing flesh, as Dean and Sam have never commented on Castiel’s body temperature being odd), his ass is roughly the average temperature of the human body: 98.6° F/37.0° C.

The term “hot” is subjective, but Castiel’s ass is not particularly hotter than a normal human body. Therefore, we’re classifying this rumor as DEBUNKED.

So here we have Hester blatantly telling us that Cas has not only fallen from grace but has fallen in love.   And then we have this follow up that she says to Dean. Why would an angel be lost at first touch? Love at first sight? Yes. If you want to know why I consider Destiel Canon, this is yet another reason why. It’s not made canon by sex, or kissing, or “I love yous” It’s canon by the way they are with each other, what they mean and represent to each other, how others obviously SEE what they mean to each other. They’ve throw it in our faces for so many seasons. The list goes on.

anonymous asked:

What are your top 5 comfort/fluff destiel fics?

oooooooh tricky question anon :)

  1. These Violent Delights - 56,806, A newly mortal Castiel wants to understand humanity, and a little Shakespeare is just the thing to help him. Of course, it takes a little bit of prodding, but soon the Winchesters (along with Kevin and Charlie) are all part of the world’s weirdest reading club.
  2. Apres - 24,046, When the angels stop falling and Castiel makes his way out of the trees, he finds himself alone and oceans away from the Winchesters. For once, Dean flies to him.
  3. The Prophet Must Die - 54,455, ”What about Castiel? He seems helpful… and dreamy.” Something about the comment just isn’t sitting right, and Dean’s jaw twitches. He stares at the wall in the dark, and at a quarter past four in the morning, it hits him. ”Asshole,” Dean hisses under his breath, sitting up straight, “that sonofabitch kept publishing.”
  4. That Don’t Impress Dean Much – 23,890, Cas has fallen and he’s trying to find a way to impress Dean so the hunter will want to keep him around
  5. Peace And Good Luck To All Men – 31,365, Christmas in the Milton household was difficult enough without the added complication of guests- and if Luke and Gabriel placing bets on who can get with Sam first wasn’t bad enough, then Cas developing a ridiculous crush on his sister’s boyfriend definitely is.

but you should also check my ficrec page for more because choosing just 5 was HARD
