Sun shining in the window onto the rough draft of the Worm Boy graphic novel. I finished the rough today, now I hand it over to former Poet Laureate of Vermont, Syd Lea, for him to compose the epic poem that will accompany the pictures. Then I draw the final.
It will undoubtably be awesome, a strange and beautiful artifact.
Me, Governor Shumlin, and Ed Koren. One week ago, my reign as Cartoonist Laureate of Vermont ended, and Ed Koren’s began.
I had a good run, it was fun. And it felt great to hand the position off to Ed. He’s a freakin’ cartooning MASTER.
But as we were posing for these pictures, the Governor leaned over to me and said, “You know, you’ll be our laureate FOREVER”. Which was a sweet thing to say, I thought. And he’s right… the honor doesn’t end just because I’m no longer the current laureate.
The first cartoonist laureate of Vermont, I shall forever be. I’m like the state flower.
