carpodacus vinaceus

November 5, 2016 - Vinaceous Rosefinch (Carpodacus vinaceus)

These finches are found in parts of India, Nepal, China, Myanmar, and Taiwan. They eat various seeds, foraging on the ground and in vegetation. Little is known about their nesting behavior, though a female has been observed incubating eggs in July. The word “vinaceous” means wine-colored and refers to their deep red plumage.
