Figure Skating Elements: Upright and Layback Spins

There are four main categories of spins in figure skating: upright spins, layback spins, camel spins, and sit spins. This post will cover upright and layback spins. Upright spins are defined as spins with at least one extended leg on the ice and the body in a more-or-less upright position. Laybacks are scored as a separate element from upright spins; they appear as LSp on protocols while general upright spins appear as USp.

There are many, many, many variations on spin positions in skating; in fact, coming up with interesting positions and combinations is one way to get higher levels on spins. (A common criticism of the judging system is that it encourages weird or ugly spin positions in the name of difficulty and gaining points.) It’s impossible to account for all of the variations out there, so I’ve only gifed some common positions and famous variations.

Out of the 250 top-grossing films of 2013, only 3% were shot by women. Only 3%! That’s 7.5 women out of 250 cinematographers.

Three is a measly percent, but the women who are that percent are ones to watch out for. The following are eight talented cinematographers you’ve probably never heard of, but remember these ladies and keep an eye out for their work.

Kai Parker x Reader

WORD COUNT : 1 444 …

WARNING : angst…

(Events in this story take place after Kai turned into a vampire / witch heretic.
Kai and Reader are in a relationship ; One night Reader sees Kai kissing someone else at the Grill and shuts him out , but he is determined to get her forgiveness …)

Three days have gone by since the incident. He still didn’t know how that had happened. Kai loved Y/N and would never ever hurt her. Not intentially , anyways… but that’s exactly what happened that night at the Grill.  Some random girl had approached him and kissed him … and he hadn’t pushed her away , instead Kai had done the opposite and Y/N had seen it. The look of hurt and pain of her face , tears streaming down her face - he couldn’t get the image out of his head.  He had rushed after her , tried to talk to her but she had shut the door in his face , literally.
Kai wanted to apologise to her and he had tried more than couple of times over the past few days. Y/N just wouldn’t return his calls , wouldn’t reply his text messages. He had been to her apartment every day from sunrise to dawn, knocking on the door , sitting with his back at the door … without getting any response from her. She was inside , that he could tell. Kai could hear her crying and smashing things inside , using his vampire hearing.
He hated himself for the pain he had caused her.

Three days… That’s how long it has been. To Y/N it felt longer , as if she was in a nightmare and couldn’t wake up no matter how hard she tried.
Kai came by every day ,sitting outside her apartment door and sometimes she sat there too , on her side. Listening. Y/N wasn’t a vampire but sometimes when she rested her head on the door , she heard sniffles from the other side.
Kai had also called her a few times , leaving voicemails asking for her forgiveness. Each time she broke into sobs listening to them , her heart breaking all over again.
The pain her chest was suffocating her. Kai might’ve put her through hell , but she loved him and missed him so much. It hurt her more being away from him than the memory of what he had done to break her heart.
A couple times Caroline and Bonnie had called her. Their calls she answered.  Y/N knew if she didn’t answer , things might get even worse. Despite the fact Kai had hurt her , she couldn’t stand the thought of something happening to him.
“Did something happen with … Kai ?” Caroline asked her , her voice worried.
“No. Nothing happened , Caroline.” Y/N had lied , putting on the best show in her life. “I just caught some nasty flu , that’s all. I just need a few days to recover , that’s all.” For all Y/N knew , the lie had been accepted as the truth by her friends.

The next day he decided to try again. Kai walked to her place and knocked on Y/N’s apartment door , his palms sweaty. He need to see her , hear her voice and was determinated to talk to her and ask for her forgiveness.
A few moments later Kai heard movement from the inside and Y/N opened the door. “Hey…” he said , a small smile on his face.  He couldn’t believe she had opened the door.
Y/N scoffed and tried to shut the door in his face but he pushed it open.
“Please , talk to me.” he pleaded , walking inside and shutting the door behind him. For the past few days all Kai had wanted was to see her , hear her voice … He wasn’t going to let this opportunity slip away.
She turned around to face him , her eyes red and puffy from all the tears. Kai let out a breath and took a few steps , shortening the distance between them. He stared at his shoes , unable to meet her eyes.
Y/N looked at him for a few seconds. Kai looked broken , dark circles under his eyes as if he hadn’t slept in days , his hair all messed up. Quickly she dropped her gaze , before he even had the chance to notice she had looked at him.
“I screwed up , Y/N.” he said trying to take her hand but she pulled back right away. “I … I didn’t mean for this to happen. I don’t even know how it happened…  I never meant to hurt you.” Kai said , tears filling his eyes. “I… ” he swallowed hard. “I am so so so sorry…”
Kai wanted so badly for her to look at him. To yell at him , hit him. Anything. Any reaction… “Say something. Please.”
Y/N kept starring at the carpet , studying it as if it was the most interesting piece of art in the world. Every time she closed her eyes the image showed up in her head - Kai kissing that other girl , pulling her closer to him the way  he pulled HER close… Tears started rolling down her cheeks again and Y/N couldn’t stop them. Her emotions were on overload

“I am so sorry , Y/N.” Kai said , pain clear in his voice. “I am SO SORRY … I am the biggest jerk in the world and I don’t deserve you or your forgiveness.”
Tears kept rolling down her cheeks and all he wanted was to wrap his arms around her and hold her tight. To comfort her.  "I hate myself so much for what I did… and I’d take it back in a heartbeat.“  Kai took a step towards her , waiting for her to step back.  "I love you.” he said , “I love you with everything that I have. Please , forgive me… ” Kai pleaded taking another step towards her, closing the distance between them.

Y/N’s heart was breaking from the pain , from listening and seeing Kai like this. Yes , he had cheated on her… and part of her wanted to hate him , however the larger part loved him so much and couldn’t stand seeing tears in his eyes. She wanted to hug him or him to hug her , to tell her it was all a bad dream , a misunderstanding…

Silence was hanging heavy in the air , every second felt like hours to both of them.
Finally Kai couldn’t take it anymore - watching the tears roll down her cheeks , her body shaking from the sobs because of all the pain … He pulled her into a hug wrapping his hands around Y/N pulling her closer to him. He wished he could snap his fingers , make all of her pain away , make everything right again …
Y/N took in his scent , breathing it in deeply  for a few moments before pulling away.
“Kai … ” she said , trying hard to fight back the tears. Suddenly all she felt was anger towards him. Y/N hit him again and again , waiting for him to stop her. He didn’t. Kai was relieved he got a reaction from her , he deserved her anger and he accepted it. “You. Can’t. Fix. This. With. An. ‘I’m sorry’.” she said , each word followed by another punch on his chest.  When Y/N was done hitting him , she took a deep breath , her body starting to shake from the sobs starting all over again. Kai pulled her into another hug , wrapping his hands tight around her and Y/N started crying again.
“Tell me what to do to make it right ,  Y/N.” he said , feeling a tear rolling down his face. “I’ll do anything…” Kai had cried before , but this time it felt different , the pain causing his tears was different. It felt as if someone was trying to rip his heart out.
Y/N wanted him to go away .. and to stay at the same time. She wrapped her arms around him. Somehow Kai was both the cause of her pain and the only cure for it. She needed him like one needs air to live. The past few days , despite the fact Y/N kept ignoring his calls , text messages and the knocks on her door … All she wanted was for Kai to hug her , be there with her…
“Stay.” she said hugging him tighter. “Stay and don’t let go.”
Kai pulled her tighter and let out a breath he hadn’t even realised was holding. “Do you forgive me ?” he asked , his voice about to break. He listened to Y/N’s breathing - uneven from the sobs..
A few minutes passed agonisingly slowly before she answered him.
“Ask me again tomorrow.” she said , pulling away from the hug and looking him in the eyes for the first time since he got to her place ,the cracks in her heart visible through her eyes. Y/N wrapped her hands around him once again.
“I’ll find a way to make it right …” Kai whispered more to himself than to her. “I promise.”

Under Night Sky (Part Two) Part One Here.

Caroline has always been a very punctual person, even before watches were a thing. It’s a quarter to seven when she walks into the bar, shaking off a dusting of snow and stripping of her outer garments before they could get wet.

Damp cold was the worst.

Showing up this early had nothing to do with a desire to be on time. It has little to do with politeness; she’s not worried about making a good impression on the peculiar werewolf she’d encountered on the mountain last night.

No, this is strategy.

She’d picked the meeting’s location specifically, had known that she could arrange the variables to her advantage. She doesn’t go out much during the high seasons but when the tourists leave and Aspen slows the waitresses and bartenders are always grateful for Caroline’s generous tips. She weaves through the crowds, basking in the warmth of the room. It’s packed with bodies and lit by numerous fireplaces and Caroline might even be able to take off her chunky knit cardigan.

She makes a beeline to the bar. The ambience is purposefully low-key – comfy seating and music that didn’t overwhelm conversations. Pairs and small groups of humans are clustered in cozy seating groups and around high tables. Squeezing in to the pack around the bar she looks around for someone she knows.

The bartender who meets her eyes grins in recognition and welcome and she returns it. He’s one of Caroline’s favorites, fun to flirt with, easy on the eyes, and a generous pourer. He even manages to be gracious when he loses at darts. She’s often wondered what had brought him to Aspen but Enzo has never offered an explanation and Caroline had never pressed. She didn’t need to give him a reason to get curious about her background. “Long time, no see! What’ll you have?”

“The hot chocolate. With a shot of bourbon and extra whipped cream. And I need a favor.”

He leans closer, resting his forearms on the bar. “Color me intrigued, Gorgeous.”

Day 6: Canon-ish

A/N: This is the first part of an intended 4-shot. Basically, my idea is to craft some kind of Klaroline kiss/moment for each season of the year while also showing the two of them at various points (and emotional states) in their relationship. I started thinking about how Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall all have a different look or feel about them, and I thought it would be fun to play with that thematically/symbolically. Plus, it’d give me an excuse to play with seasonal imagery.

Anyway, this part is Winter. It’s canon until Liz’s death and Caroline’s grappling with the loss. I’ve also ignored all things Stefan and Caroline. (Loss. Angst. Hurt and Comfort.)

This gave me loads of trouble, so if it’s terrible I apologize but I couldn’t bear to edit it any longer haha. Enjoy. :)

xx Ashlee Bree

A Kiss For All Seasons

Part 1: Fold Into Me, Shivering

Winter’s kiss wisps across her forehead at a time of shivering delirium and despair.

She’s gone.

It’s not a dream because each breath in tastes metallic and rough, because each breath out rattles and hisses like a dented whiffle ball which has sunk beneath sediment and drowned in the shallowest of streams. It’s real life. It’s real loss, too. And real loss throbs.

It breaks—tearing, cracking, pulling, shattering, rupturing, wrenching a person into angles so painful or contradictory, that life itself feels distorted. It plunges emotions into a vise that’s so unbearable and inescapable at times, it almost feels impossible to still be alive let alone be expected to stand.

Or talk.

Or move.

Or think.

Or cry without wiping at eyes and waiting to find blood puddled on fingertips instead of tears.

At times, grief even makes it difficult to exist.

After someone dies, especially if you loved that person, the world begins to clutter in a way it never did before: it pinches in at the sides so all the noise can spill in unheard, unseen, clouding your mind and chest with smog that refuses to lift so you can breathe easy again. Everything becomes drenched in the blacks and purples and blues of a bruise, too, until there’s nothing left for us to do but crash to our knees. Until all we can do is shrink inside our gloomy new reality and burn our lung’s raw with missing.

In Caroline’s case, icicles splinter across her chest whenever she blinks against the harsh whites of morning to relive the tragedy all over again.

Instead of Liz’s death providing her with comfort or relief now that she’s no longer suffering, the unfair and untimely permanence of loss hollows her out until she’s raw—numb—freezing. The air around her tastes as toxic and as gritty lead. The din of life, which was once so variable and mellifluous and exhilarating to her ears, rings like television static in her head now. Blurring one minute of monotonous agony into the next without end. More than that, the rising sun in the distance (the same one that used to stream vivid, happy yellows through her window every morning), is far too weak or indirect to do anything besides snake across her moistened cheeks with it pale rays before it leaves her cold and dejected again.

Caroline’s parentless now. Alone. She’s still loved by a few friends, of course, but she feels so incredibly, unbelievably, disconnected from them all.

She’s more or less invisible. A ghost.

None of them see me. None of them know what I need.

I was watching the scene where Stefan whispered into Elena's ear on YouTube and turning the volume up you can hear Stefan tell Elena clearly "I love you. I have always loved you" which means Elena had lied to Caroline about what he had told her. Even though they weren't endgame it's good to know those were Stefan's last words before he died and that Elena could know it that no matter what happened in her or his life, he would always feel that way. What are your thoughts about this?

To be honest I can’t fully hear what Stefan says to Elena, I need that scene without the background music because I know when I first heard it it didn’t sound like it had anything to do with Caroline not to mention:

my guy, you are NOT thinking about Caroline.

But that’s not the point.
Was i the only one who thought Stefan told Elena that he loved her and will love her forever instead of Caroline ?
Because he was whispering I understood I love you and I will forever love you.
Idk and now I have this odd feeling that Elena lied so Caroline could be happy.
But idk maybe that’s just me.
But anyway I’m so disappointed.

A Ring of Truth.

Since I don’t write at all on the weekends, I figured I could sneak out one more part of this complete fiasco before my writing time was cut away until next week.

Immediately following the events from the prior addition HERE (just posted earlier today, so if you have a chance & haven’t yet, go read that one first!), which ended in Nevada giving his ex, sweet Crybaby Caroline, a late night phone call…

It was late, but Sonny had only managed to make it home all of an hour ago. Another case, more victims, and horror stories he wouldn’t dare explain to sweet Caroline- so she had decided to stay awake, keep him silent company while he was busy looking through the case files. After all, she had been left alone all day and evening-

Unexpectedly, her phone rang, and she nearly fell out of her chair in surprise. Delicately, Caroline folded the corner of the page she had been reading, and reached for the cell, so she could click it to ‘silent’ and Sonny’s diligent studies wouldn’t be disturbed.

The name that had flashed across the screen, though…
That wasn’t exactly what she was expecting.

Gently, with a soft smile, she rose to her feet. While working to exit the living room, she drug a fingertip along Sonny’s shoulder blades. “Sorry, Honey,” Caroline bent at the waist, pressed a kiss to his cheek, “I’ll take this so there’s no more bothers.”

He only smiled, with his thumb still pressed to the line he had been reading. “Don’t take too long,” the tease came with a pout, and she giggled before ruffling his hair and sauntering away.

Once she was convinced she was safely out of ear shot, and hidden behind the bedroom door, Caroline answered after another call came through-

In barely a whisper, she sought to confirm: “Nevada?”

“My Crybaby…”

TVD 2x07 Review

1. I think it’s funny and telling how in the “previously on The Vampire Diaries” we constantly go back to Stefan and Elena’s “I know the risk but I have to know her” since that’s how much their relationship was a part of the show.

2. It still bothers me that Jenna gets stabbed and Elena breaks up with Stefan citing how stupid they were thinking they wouldn’t get caught sneaking around when if it was about Stefan and Elena still seeing each other, Katherine would’ve had Jenna harm herself much earlier, this was because Damon was stupid.

3. I still hate this checkered shirt they made Paul wear this episode, it’s TERRIBLE, such an ugly ass shirt. They didn’t have to do my third husband like that.

4. I still love that Caroline lies to Matt about coming to the Grill to use the washroom then when she goes to the bathroom, she throws her hands up in the air like, why. Why are we like this, Caroline?

5. Like the shirt wouldn’t be SO bad if he wasn’t wearing a sweater over it, it’s just SO busy.

6. “She’s running scared, what she did to Jenna was desperate, she’s out of  tricks.” Damon, why don’t you sit your ass down?!?!?! Every time you underestimate an enemy, someone close to the woman you supposedly love ends up nearly dead. LIKE SHUT UP.

7. GUYS.

8. “I always thought it was some made-up legend” redundant dialogue, just say a myth.

9. “What Katherine did to Jenna crossed the line, she has to be stopped before it happens again!” But Damon just gets free reign then? Idiotic writers.

10. “You and Stefan will work it out.” “I don’t think so, Matt, there’s so much about me and Stefan that will never work.” I didn’t remember this piece of dialogue being in the episode but I find it interesting only because this is supposed to be a time when Elena tries to give up, which is indicated by Jeremy rolling his eyes at Elena’s passivity earlier on in the episode because she says she’s doing what Katherine tells her to. Like she isn’t going to the masquerade ball, she isn’t trying to take on Katherine, she’s shutting herself away and it all leads back to because she thinks she can’t be with Stefan. Like when Matt asks her about the masquerade ball, she could’ve said, I’m not going because I want to be home with Jenna but she says not with everything that’s going on with me and Stefan.

11. “But no one gets hurt.” “Except Katherine!” YES, DAMON. WE GOT IT.

12. “Matt?? You look dashing! You really are hot in a suit, I would love to just…” Still find it funny that ONLY Katherine is thirsty for Matt.

13. They need to stop making girls dance when the guys are doing whatever else, it’s AWKWARD.

14. “Is that the spell book I read about in my family’s old journal?” WHY IS THIS A PIECE OF DIALOGUE? J: Oh, is that a spell book? B: How do you know? J: I read about it in my family’s journal. WHAT IS SO HARD ABOUT THAT?

15. “So Stefan is at the party too?? He would never go to the party himslf, he did that stuff for me!” LOL. Why do I feel like Elena is more pissed about the fact that Stefan is at a masquerade ball without her than suspicious that something is up?

16. OK that girl would not go up to Stefan of ALL people to be like, “I can’t find Matt.” All they had to do is instead of making her look at Katherine thinking it’s Elena and compliment her dress is say, “Elena, I cant find Matt.” That makes way more sense.

17. And Katherine killing her is actually when she starts to feel like an actual threat and not a petty ex girlfriend who has disproportionate reactions to things (minus killing Caroline.)

18. “This woman ruined our lives, she DESTROYED us” just Stefan, Damon.

19. It’s also super convenient that Bonnie would be paired with Jeremy when she would’ve been with Caroline since they’re friends.

20. “You didn’t tell me there was another witch here … No one is suppose dto know I’m involved.” Then put your mask back on, Lucy, you were anonymous before. Jfc. Details.

21. Her linking herself to Elena was a good twist still tho.

22. Tyler is still pretty calm that he just killed someone tho.

23. “And it would’ve worked except people found out I wasn’t in the tomb thanks to you.” Wait, I don’t get it. Damon didn’t find out she wasn’t in the tomb until 2009 and Anna had already seen Katherine beforehand because she tells Damon that Katherine didn’t care where he was, so how would Damon be responsible for people knowing she wasn’t in the tomb?

24. Bonnie’s dress is ridiculously awful.

25. I remember when this episode came out and all of the DErs were like OMG WHEN JEREMY RUSHES UP TO TELL STEFAN AND DAMON THAT KATHERINE IS LINKED TO ELENA, THE WAY DAMON STOPS RIGHT BEFORE HE’S GOING TO STAKE KATHERINE, THAT LOOK ON HIS FACE, HE CARES ABOUT HER SO MUCH. And I’m like lol remember when after this knowledge he slammed Katherine against the wall in a chokehold and raised a stake to her and Stefan had to be like NO, ELENA WILL DIE. Damon is literally an idiot who can’t get a hold of his emotions and doesn’t think about consequences.

26. See, Lucy cursing the moonstone to take down Katherine bothers me in the sense that there’s all this oh I owe Katherine, Katherine spends the entire episode acting as if she’s more powerful than Lucy but Lucy can take her down so simply? Which pretty much all witches can do to vampires? It doesn’t make sense for them to be subservient to vampires who they can easily take down or kill except for the fact that TVD likes seeing black women in subservient positions because like me and that anon discussed beforehand, when the witches are white they’re all-powerful.

27. Everyone is SO calm that this girl is dead. Like there’s a corpse in a room.

28. “Don’t worry, you’ll see me again” no we won’t because the show killed you off, Lucy.

29. “I want to be with you, Stefan, you know that, but first I need to wake up and feel like the people that I love are safe, I need to feel safe.” Lol the next episode:

the episode after

Also if you REALLY needed that, Elena, then Damon would have to leave town. Literally last episode you told Jeremy to stay away from him because he would end up dead.

30. Lol Damon and Elena have no interaction this episode. BUT ALL THE BUILD UP.

31. “You’re lying, you’re always lying…” I mean, when did Katherine ACTUALLY lie though?

32. It also doesn’t make any sense that they would let Elena go home by herself.

Thanks for reading!

I’m back with a new chapter : ) @niklausxcaroline did an amazeballs gif set for this fic and I absolutely adore it. If you haven’t seen her brilliant take yet, you can look at it here. Thanks lovely lady, your talent astounds me constantly! Thanks also to Paula @howeverlongs for the cover too.

Part 7: That Old Black Magic

“For you’re the lover I have been waiting for. You’re the mate that fate had me created for…"

Louis Armstrong Park - 701 N Rampart Street - Friday AM

Caroline sat idly on the park bench, mindlessly pulling apart her fresh baguette and throwing it towards the greedy birds gathered nearby. It was supposedly her lunch but Caroline didn’t have an appetite, in fact she hadn’t consumed much since her ordeal at the Mikaelson compound and that was saying a lot given her usually excessive eating habits. She assumed once she’d gone back to her life working at Spellbound and practicing her witchcraft, all would go back to normal.

Unfortunately a certain, lying bastard that had been haunting her relentlessly had other plans. Those mocking, crimson lips and disarming dimples had an unwelcome way of entering her subconscious. Even in her waking hours, he would rudely interrupt Caroline at the most inopportune times. Why Caroline had no idea. He’d deceived her in the worst possible way but yet she couldn’t shake him or the feeling of his lips against hers. Caroline had decided he’d placed a spell on her this time but unlike her failure, he seemed to have succeeded.

Bonnie and Katherine knew something wasn’t right, they would have been stupid not to given her erratic behaviour the past few days. Her only saving grace was the fact Bonnie and Katherine seemed to have been equally distracted by their own Mikaelson issues. As angry as they’d all been by the deception, there was no denying they’d all left their mark on the three witches.

Mikaelson Compound - French Quarter - Monday AM

"Excuse me?” Caroline challenged. There was no way in hell she was going to stay in this idiot’s house after she knew exactly what he’d done. Call her crazy but even after everything, Caroline still had her pride even if it had been dented considerably. She was inwardly kicking herself for falling for his act, since when had she become so damn naive?

Caroline decided to blame it on the fact that she’d been off kilter ever since arriving in New Orleans and being thrown into this whole new world of witchcraft and vampires. She thought the most she’d have to worry about was memorising her spells, not warding off an Original, Hybrid stalker and his cuckoo family. “You will let us leave immediately. I figured after your brother’s behaviour it’s the least I deserve.”

“Which is exactly why we can’t let you leave, Miss Forbes,” Elijah countered, his steely gaze unwavering.

“Is someone scared of a few witches?” Katherine baulked. Unlike her previous comments which had all been laced with flirty undertones, it was obvious the brunette wasn’t playing so nice anymore.

“We are not scared,” Rebekah scoffed. “We just don’t need unpredictable witches roaming the streets with a silly grudge.”

“Silly grudge? That’s an interesting way of putting it,” Bonnie drawled. “If it wasn’t for your brother’s weird vendetta…”

“Oh come on, darling,” Enzo interrupted. “I think vendetta is a little strong, it was more like a crush gone slightly skewed.”

“I am still in the room you realise,” Klaus growled, his gaze trained solely on Caroline. She was finding his attention unnerving, especially when she was supposed to be outraged by his betrayal.

“So, why don’t you start acting like it?” Rebekah mumbled. “Kol, surely you have something to say, you usually can’t shut your trap.” Caroline hadn’t known him for long but she had to admit his lack of opinion on the situation was strange. His eyes remained glued on Bonnie’s brown ones, almost like he was torn about what to do or say.

“I can’t believe you’re encouraging him to complain,” Enzo joked. Caroline was beginning to realise he had a tendency to mask awkwardness with jokes. Given Rebekah’s unimpressed gaze, she was starting to wonder just what the couple had in common.

“The decision is final,” Elijah asserted, ignoring Enzo. “You will remain our guests until we decide otherwise.”

“Your guests?” Katherine asked incredulously. “I didn’t realise imprisoning people was considered hospitality these days.” It was obvious any initial attraction between them had cooled significantly.

“Enough!” Klaus bellowed, finally breaking out of his self-imposed trance. “They are free to go.”

“But Niklaus…” Rebekah attempted to argue before he interrupted.

“No buts,” he bit out. “I am to blame for this, not them.” Caroline had since averted her gaze, too afraid to meet his stare and get lost in his blue eyes again before he added. “Let them go, that’s an order.”

The next moments were a blur for Caroline. One minute they were arguing with the Originals and the next the three girls were walking free from the compound without so much of a backwards glance. It was easier this way but for some reason Caroline felt a strange sensation overtake her body and every step away from him made her heart ache. She had no idea why though given his callous treatment towards her.

”Under the moon”

It happened about a week ago and since then you were a pile of misery. Barely left your room, not mentioning going to school. Your parents though that the reason, of instantly runny nose and red eyes, is some kind of flu, not because you’ve murdered someone on Monday and felt super depressed and guilty about it. On the second thought calling it feeling depressed and guilty is putting it too mildly.

Yes, you have murdered someone on Monday

Yes, you are only a high school student and to be honest How to get away with murder doesn’t really shows how to deal with this kind of stuff.

You weren’t even trying to defend yourself, you knew it was all your fault and you deserve to be punished for your actions. But deep down, all you wanted was to take back the time so you could have done things differently. You should have stayed in home that night.

October 18th, Monday

“Oh come one, Y/N, we should get out from the house, screw this history test tomorrow” said your best friend Caroline as you both lied on your bed with notes and books covering your sheets. “I’m going to die from boredom. Seriously, who needs to know all this stuff, it’s ridiculous!” she whined while covering her face with dramatic gesture.

“Apparently us, if we want to graduate next year” you answered bitterly trying to focus on the civil war.

Not paying any attention at what was Caroline really doing (well, she was wallowing on the fluffy carpet of yours, so no one can blame you) you’ve thought that maybe the blond girl was right after all. Recently all you’ve done is studying for tests, researching information’s for important essays and barely had time to sleep full eight hours, which was a minimum amount of time for you, to be fully awake in the morning.

“You know what? You’re right, it’s been ages since we had some real fun. We can’t let school steal our social lives” and by saying that both of you stormed out from the house, not thinking about consequences, giggling like little girls.

You ended up in Mystic Grill as usual. It was full of familiar, you’ve spotted Damon and Alaric by the bar, what a shock, drinking, some kids from your school playing pool, dancing around to alternative music from the speakers while sipping juice (which probably wasn’t juice at all). But, mostly important – Tyler was there too.

He leaned by the table, talking to Matt, the waiter, who was his best friend. For the moment your eyes land on him your heart skipped a bit and you couldn’t help it, even when you wanted to.  There was something in his deep brown eyes that send shivers down your spine, and his warm voice which made you feel week in your knees and hands shake. The only thing stopping you from falling from him completely was that he was your friend’s ex-boyfriend.

“Are you planning on eating Tyler, Y/N? You look at him like he’s a doughnut or something.” Caroline teased you, but you’ve sensed the tense in her voice, not knowing how to respond you’ve just laughed awkwardly. “I would lie if I would tell you that I’m completely fine with you making faces like heart-eyed emoji around him.” She started but when she noticed that you want to interrupt her she continued. “It’s okay, Y/N, go for him, I’m over it. And for God’s sake don’t even try to deny it, you’re a terrible liar.” You’ve just nodded at her words, speechless. “Now, that we’re clear, let’s go have a drink.”

From now on everything went great, too great, it was almost weird for you. You’ve danced around, drank, a little spiced with alcohol, iced cola, laughed out loud while playing darts and winning five times in a row. No wonder that what was going to happened next threw you from your feet.

“May I join you?” You’ve heard hoarse voice behind your back. The guy was clearly drunk and seeking for attention of much younger than him girls. “You’re so pretty, I would like to take you to my place, we could stay by, and you know, play.” He leaned closer which made you feel sick and dirty, trying to move away, but your back met the cold wall.

“I’m sorry, we’re having fun on our own, right, Care?” You said, expecting your friend to be by your side, but she was nowhere to be found. “I have to go, it was really nice to meet you.”

Loosing him in a crowd you’ve left the building to reach for fresh air, immediately you’ve become sober. Looking for your phone in purse, your hands were shaking, knowing how close it was for this dude to touch you or worse.

“Caroline, pick up your phone, dammit! I’m going to leave in ten minutes, I’m outside the Grill if you want to join me just be there.” As she weren’t answering her phone you’ve decided to wait for her since you have no interest in going back in there. No until he was still inside, ready to bother you again.

It was cold outside, your breath appeared as little, white clouds of steam. It was only November but still incredibly chilly, no wonder you tried to warm up your arms by brushing them with hands.

“Hey girl, waiting for anyone? Maybe I can keep you company.” There he was again. Your heart almost jumped from your chest, beating so fast, scared that he wouldn’t leave you alone.

“No, thank you, I’m really fine. Actually my boyfriend is going to pick me up in a moment, he’s already on his way, so…” You lied quickly, praying in your mind that after realizing that you have someone who watch out for you he will go away. “You can go now.”

“Well, I don’t see him anywhere.” His face immediately changed and the look in his eyes appeared as cold, angry and stubborn to make his move on you, which terrified you.

You managed to answer but his big hand, which tasted like a mix of alcohol and sweat covered your mouth, not to let you scream for help. Your eyes opened wide, thoughts spinning in your head like crazy, trying to figure out what to do next.

Don’t touch me, leave me alone – you kept repeating this sentence in your mind but then he began to explore your body with his hands, trying to move his body on you. Something has changed, you’ve built up against him and pushed him so hard he hit the ground.

           And he wouldn’t get up.

“Oh my God.” Your voice and body shaking. The crack of his skull hitting the ground was so loud, it made you want to threw up. What have you done, what have you done.

“Y/N, what’s going on in here.” You’ve heard deeply concerned voice, which you knew that belonged to someone familiar, but you couldn’t turn away and face whoever it was. You just stared blankly at the man, laying on the ground, he’s body not moving at any point, not breathing, the blood covering the sidewalk.

“Y/N, do you hear me?” This time, this someone put his hands on your shoulders, turning you around to see your face. It was Tyler, the last person you wanted to see right now. You were sure he’s going to blame you from what you did, and you knew, as hell, that you were guilty. “Did he hurt you?” He asked and you didn’t expect him to care for you when you’ve done something that terrible.

“I think I’ve killed him.” Your voice broke in the middle of the sentence. “What do I do now, Tyler?” You cried, not being able to talk anymore because of sobbing so hard.

He just hold you still, letting you lean on his shoulder, trying to comfort you by gently brushing your back.

Visions of it bothered you at nights, not letting you sleep, the dead man visiting you in your nightmares but also when you were awake. You couldn’t function properly, especially when you found out, that nothing is going to be the same again. That when you’ve killed your would-be rapist you’ve also triggered the curse, that you will need to manage for the rest of your life. The curse of being a wolf and turning into one on every full moon.

Tyler scented that you were the one the second he saw you. He was really helpful since then and you two became really close, even closer that you were with Caroline (who now weren’t speaking to you, confident that you left her on her own at the night you two went to have fun in Mystic Grill). You never would have guessed that besides pretty face and body that he had, he was also really caring, selfless and protective. If it wasn’t him you were sure, you would went nuts.

After the dark, when you couldn’t even close your eyes, he would sneak up to your house by the window, staying with you till sunrise, holding you close to him, kissing your hands and forehead to help you forget about that night. It was the little things that let you confirm your undoable feelings for him but you just couldn’t tell him, afraid to ruin your relationship and that he would never fall for someone like you. For murderer.

You tried to deny that the day of full moon was closer every day, but it was unavoidable.

“Y/N, you have to believe me, that you’re going to be okay.” Said Tyler while cupping your face. You were standing in his family’s old dungeon, which was used as a held room for werewolves. Now covered in dust, with prints of claws and chains in the wall. “I know that you’re scared, hell, you should be, ‘cause this is going to be the worst thing that will ever happen to you.”

“You’re not helping in here.” You mumbled trying to stop your eyes from watering.

“Because I’m not going to lie to you. When I was before my first transition Caroline was there for me” he began, and when you immediately looked away, thinking that he still has feelings for her, he made you look at him again “She was by bedrock. I wasn’t alone then, like my uncle Mason, and I don’t want that to happen to you either. That’s why I’m helping you with this, even if it’s only a few hours a month it still sucks. And you can scream about it, cry about it, hell, even wallow, but it’s not going to change a thing.” He finished his monologue with serious look on his face which you were not used to.

“You can easily say that, you’re a hybrid, you don’t have to do this anymore.” You answered bitterly and he let go of you, going to look for something in his sport bag. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean that, it’s just…really hard.”

He nodded and have you a bottle of something which looked like water. You raised your eyebrow but opened it and tasted a little of it. You’ve felt your throat burning with fire and quickly spit out the rest of it.

“I’m sorry Y/N, but you have to be weaker not to hurt anyone. And wolfs bane and chains are going to assure us that it will not happen.” You’ve looked at him, painfully but sit up in a corner and tried to swallow the poison. He kneeled down to you, holding your hands to help you with the pain. “Good, you’ve drank it all. I’m really proud of you, Y/N. I wasn’t so strong as you when it was my first time.”

“Not exactly, I broke free and almost killed Care.” He laughed bitterly leaving you speechless while he was handcuffing your hands. “The moon is almost up.”

No words can describe the awfulness of turning into a wolf. You were sure it was some kind of punishment for your sins, for breaking the curse by killing someone, and you will have to deal with it for the rest of your life. You were in incredible pain, laying on the cold floor which highly contrasted with your steaming hot skin, for about four hours. But he was there for you until it was over, brushing your hair, comforting you in every breaking bone of yours. You couldn’t imagine what would you do if you were alone.

“It’s over.” He said while holding on his lap your naked and bruised body, wrapped in a blanket. “You can sleep now.”

“Thank you, Ty.” Your voice was hoarse and it was painful for you to speak after such screaming. “I don’t know what would do if…”

“Sh-sh, it’s okay Y/N. It was a pleasure for me to help you.” He whispered while placing a soft kiss on your rosy cheek.

Having known Caroline for as long as she did, she knew there was something off.  She couldn’t quite shake it - things in Caroline’s life seemed to be going great.  Their pets were as amazing as always, she had a new romance in her life, and overall she seemed incredibly happy - it was something Rapunzel had wished for her for so long.  As she painted, she hummed quietly, but as Caroline’s throat cleared, Rapunzel stopped painting, and she peered over toward the other blonde.  She was quiet as she listened, and as Caroline spoke those two words, her eyebrows rose.

‘I’m pregnant.’  Words she hadn’t expected to hear in a long time - she always figured they would confide in one another when that moment came - but of course, she thought that moment wouldn’t happen for quite some time.  Lightly, she put down her paint brush, turning to give Caroline her full attention.  “You’re pregnant?” she asked.  “How did this happen?”  It was a stupid question - she knew the birds and the bees - but she was shocked.  “I— are you okay?”
