Advice for someone about to buy there first bike?

chiefthundastick Keep in mind the only bikes I know anything about are Harleys. Feel free to ask more questions or why I recommend a certain thing. Here goes nothin:

My advice (assuming you’re on a budget) is to find a carbureted evo sportster from the mid 90s or later with less than 30k miles on it and pay no more than $3k for it. Be sure that it is in running & riding condition. If you can spend closer to $5-6K I’d say find an FXR or Dyna.

Food for thought:

Ride like every person operating a 4 wheeled vehicle is trying to kill you.

Always wear a helmet. I don’t, but I should.

Take a riders course. I didn’t, but I should’ve.

Make sure you know how to pick up a tipped over motorcycle. Because you’re going to drop or lay down your motorcycle. And when you do, you’re going to have to pick it back up.

Why do people like carburetors and distributors so much? via /r/cars

Why do people like carburetors and distributors so much?

Alot of the gearheads that I talk to go on and on about their custom built cars having carburators, and how much better they are when compared to fuel injection. A guy I know converted his Camero to electronic fuel injection and ignition, and everybody acts like he attempted to assassinate the president. Why? I haven’t actually worked on anything carbureted, other than my lawnmower, but isn’t electronic fuel injection and ignition more simplistic? It is for me at least. I know that it is possible to convert an old engine to use modern fuel and ignition, so Its not that. I mean fuel injection and ignition is just some sensors and injectors, and it is alot easier to comprehend than carburetors and a distributor. Please enlighten me.
