The card laid perfectly still on your coffee table.
You sat there, staring endlessly at it, nibbling on the nail on your thumb.

It was the invitation to your close childhood friend. A girl you have grown up with since the second grade and was like a sister to you at one point.

But here you were, contemplating on the choices.
‘Accept with pleasure’ or 'Decline with regret’

At first you marked the regret line, knowing you shouldn’t go. Then your mind began to over think.

Suddenly, you crossed off the check, and marked the accept line.

Letting out a deep breath, you shoved it back into the envelope and sealed it before you could change your mind, for the hundredth time. And you slipped it into the mailbox.

Immediately, you felt sick. And before you knew it, you called him.

Luckily, he didn’t answer.

So you left a voicemail.

“Hey, so I may have accepted the invitation to the wedding. But I was wondering if you can rip up my RSVP?” You said, running your hand through your hair. “Um-thanks.”

As you hung up, you started to pace back and forth in your living room. The heavy feeling on your chest, lingering.

The sound of your phone going off nearly gave you a heart attack.

Looking down, your breath hitched as you read the letters on the screen.

“Shit.” You exhaled.

Cautiously, you answered.

“Hey…” you drawled out.

“Hey, you called?”

For a moment, you were glad he didn’t listen to the voicemail but then maybe if he did, he wouldn’t have called you.

“Y/N!” His voice was louder than before, snapping you out of your daze.

“Sorry. Yes-yeah I called.” You stuttered.

“I see that. But why?”

“I-I was–well it was about the wedding.”

For a moment, the line was quiet. Too quiet. You could feel your heart begin to pace.

“So anyways-” you tried to break the silence. “I shouldn’t have-”

“Please tell me you’re not going to the wedding.” He said. “You can’t. You’ll just ruin the day.”

Suddenly, you felt a lump begin to form in your throat. You were taken aback by his statement.

“Y/N, you can’t go. Okay? She shouldn’t have invited you. It was a mistake.”

Anger began to wash over you.

“Well–” you pursed your lips, having no control over your emotions. “Too late, I already accepted. So looks like I’ll see you there. Asshole.”

And before he could say another word, you hung up and threw your phone across the room.

You were panting from the adrenaline that pulses through you. The anger now simmered down but you were still upset.

Bucky was the love of your life. Ever since you were eight years old. And once you two were seniors in high school, he asked you out.

Those four years were the best years of your life, but then he ended it without warning.

The phone was now lighting up once again. And you could feel the heaviness in your gut.

“Shit.” You whispered to yourself.

Part Two

Captain America, Isaiah Bradley

“When captain America was presumed dead, and the super soldier formula along with him, the Americas tried to re-create said formula  so they could have a super soldier again. To this end many African Americans were subjected to experimentation.

Of those to survive was Isiah Bradley an outstanding black soldier and father of one. Isiah emerged the only viable and successful subject. He managed to stop the Natzi group who tried to create a German super soldier and was captured and tortured by them for months. When he was finally rescued by his American superiors he was court-martialed and jailed. While he was in jail his genetic son was born to a surrogate mother after 39 other attempts had failed. This son would grow up to become Josiah X. Years later he was pardoned by President Eisenhower and released.

His daughter would have a son who would lead the young avengers as Patriot. When his grandson was critically wounded a blood transfusion from him gave his Grandson all of his abilities.”

You climbed out of the ferry and made your way up to the hotel. Remembering the day you and Nat booked this place.

It was the last place on the list and you were both nervous about it. The other places were booked on the day she chose for her wedding, so when she found out that this place was available, she was relieved.

The resort was beautiful beyond belief. It was in the middle of the lake, with such a breathtaking view.

It was perfect for the type of wedding she wanted.

And here you were, standing quietly in front of the hotel doors. Immediately regretting the decision of coming. But it was too late to leave.

From afar, there sat a man in a blue button up, drinking whiskey, looking out at the lake. Until his eyes averted to you, and suddenly he was taken aback.

You were mesmerizing. Even though you obviously seemed anxious, he couldn’t help but stare. Though it didn’t last long.

“Steve, we need you inside.”

And just like that, he was gone.

You started to make your way to the doors, feeling your heart thud with every step you took. Why was this so hard?

As you made it into the lobby, you saw Bucky standing by the front desk.

“Shit.” You said to yourself, as you quickly turned around and started toward the hall, opposite of Bucky.

Trying to get far away from the lobby, you didn’t see the two men coming out of the ballroom.

Suddenly, you collided into one of them, almost knocking you over.

“Shit, I’m so sorry!” You exclaimed, balancing yourself.

You looked up at the stranger you bumped into, and immediately felt your breath shake in the back of your throat.

“Are you okay?” He asked.

As you opened your mouth to say something, the guy next to him tapped his shoulder.

“Come on Steve, we got to go.”

Steve nodded to his friend then looked back at you. “See you around.” He flashed a smile.

And just like that, he was walking away.

Your heart rate was beating erratically. From going to a wedding you obviously shouldn’t have attended. To seeing Bucky for the first time since before he broke up with you.

“Well you actually showed up.” A familiar voice uttered from behind.

You turned on your heels and immediately felt your stomach drop.

“Nat.” You exhaled.

She flashed a soft smile, with Clint beside her.

“After seeing the RSVP, I didn’t think–”

“Yea–no. I wasn’t–I wouldn’t miss this.” You said, nervously.

It was quiet for a few moments, until Clint cleared his throat.

“Well, it was nice seeing you again.” He said. “Come on babe, the family is waiting for us.”

“Right, I’ll be right there.” Nat turned to look at you. “Just so you know, it wasn’t my choice to have Wanda as my maid of honor. You know how my mom is.”

“Oh yea–no I completely understand.” You said reassuringly.

“Good, I’m glad you’re here.”

“Me too.” You smiled.

She gave you a quick awkward hug, which made your stomach churn even more.

“Well I got to go.” Nat waved you off and made her way down the hall.

You’ve been there for only twenty minutes and already it’s been hell. You could only imagine how the wedding will be tomorrow.

So to prepare for your day tomorrow, you decided to hide away in your room for the rest of the night. To collect your thoughts.

You had to or else you’d blow up and say something you shouldn’t. Like the real reason why you’re there.

I’m new to Stony. What fics are the fandom “classics”

Welcome to Stony, Anon!  You’re going to love it.  Without putting down any other ship, we are, of course, THE BEST WITH THE BEST AUTHORS, ARTISTS AND FANS, HOO-YA!

As to your question, here are some of the plethora of great fics that I would personally suggest anyone in the fandom should probably at least try.  I’d also encourage you to check out every other story by these authors.  They are all wonderful.  My list would be your entire dash for the whole day. If anyone else wants to add some personal favorites, feel free to help new fans out with some “must-reads” that you love.

Resurrection, Reconstruction and Redemption by Elspethdixon and Seanchai:  Doom brings Steve back from the dead. Hijinks ensue, some of which might vaugely be considered plot. (AKA: The One That Started It All)

Relativisitic Heat Conduction by @blossomsinthemist:   Age of Ultron-based, but not entirely canon compliant. Written for the 2013 Cap-Iron Man Reverse Big Bang. Ultron has attacked, obliterating most of the world’s superheroes and resistance in a matter of hours. The remaining heroes band together and share what strength they have to get through it, to survive, and defeat Ultron once and for all. Steve Rogers grieves in the wake of the disaster and the heroes’ defeat, and no one knows if he will be able to provide the leadership they need–but Tony Stark isn’t about to let him slip away that easily.

The Twice-Told Tale by arysteia:  For someone he’d hero-worshipped for so long, Steve Rogers in the flesh is a pretty big disappointment. For one thing, he keeps looking at Tony as though he reminds him of someone else, and even if he never says anything, Tony’s pretty sure it’s his father. A lifetime of not measuring up to Howard’s expectations is more than enough, thank you very much, and he’s certainly not going to make an effort to live up to any of Steve’s. Steve’s pretty clearly failed to live up to his expectations, in any case, and that’s not hypocritical at all.

Living in the Future by Closer:  Eighteen-year-old Tony Stark is the boy genius who woke Captain America, and now he’s stuck with him. That’s not a bad thing, but between Steve’s wide-eyed wonder at the new world and Tony’s little fanboy crush, the awkwardness just keeps happening.

Saving the World (Is Totally a Date) by @wordsplat: Tony discovers Stane’s betrayal while he’s still being held captive. When he escapes, he sets out to ruin Stane as completely and ruthlessly as he can, playing up his PTSD and quitting his job to destroy Stane quietly from the outside. He also picks up a teaching job-all Pepper’s fault-and oh, right, becomes a supervillain. Okay, that one was Tony’s fault, but it was totally an accident. In the meantime, a certain Capsicle is defrosted a year early, and is assigned the task of capturing the notorious Iron Man. It’s not going particularly well, if the embarrassingly high number of times he’s been kidnapped in the past six months is any indication. When SHIELD decides to help him “adjust” by getting him a teaching job, Steve is skeptical; but then there’s Tony, and Steve finds he doesn’t mind the 21st century so much after all.

You’re Not Stubborn (Just Impossible) by @wordsplat:   Steve’s an alpha, Tony’s an omega. Biology should take care of the rest, right? Except, Tony’s not anything like TV taught Steve omegas were–or like anyone else Steve’s ever met, actually–and Steve should really learn to just keep his mouth shut about that. Also, it doesn’t help that Tony’s not too keen on the idea of alphas. Or Steve. Yeah, this bonding thing looked a whole lot easier on TV.

I (created from fantasies) exist solely for you by Mizzy: Six years ago, without the Avengers Initiative there to save the day, scientist Dr. Eric Selvig sacrificed himself to save the world, the almighty demi-god Thor was lost to a terrible storm, and vigilante Iron Man – spotted with a nuclear weapon trying to take advantage of the situation – was forever labelled an enemy of SHIELD.This is a comic book office AU, where Steve is defrosted a year too late, Thor has forgotten who he is, and no one knows Tony is Iron Man.Also includes: office pranks, inappropriate post-it notes, and superheroes who like pina coladas and getting caught in the rain

the reason you ruminate on a shadowy past by Mizzy: So, Captain America effectively manages to cockblock Tony for a year. It’s not Steve’s fault. Well, actually, it is. But he was just proving a point - that if a superhero is gay, how can it be wrong? Steve just picked the wrong superhero to make the point with. Now America will think they’re dating - and Tony’s not going to be the guy to break Captain America’s heart. There’s only one way out. To save face, Steve and Tony have to become fake boyfriends. Steve thinks the “boyfriends” bit will be the hardest to act… but maybe it’s the “fake” part that will be the hardest act of all…

When I Think (Oh, It Terrifies Me) by celli:  Look, some mornings you wake up and little green men are invading New York City; some mornings you wake up and you can hear Captain America’s voice in your head. Tony has been an Avenger long enough that he saves his freakout for important things.

Truth by valtyr:  Captain America takes truth serum. Tony is all over that.

Secrets of a Successful Marriage by valtyr:  Tony Stark lives a double life; he’s secretly the supervillain known as Iron Man. But his loving husband Steve has a few secrets of his own, as Tony is about to discover.

Tomorrow Belongs to Me by valtyr:  Steve wakes up in the 21st Century. He doesn’t think much of it, and it’s dubious about him. He meets a Norse God, joins a superhero team, and feels terribly awkward about the whole monument at Arlington he’s rendered obsolete by not being dead. Meanwhile, Tony is trying to make his mark on history by being the man who finally drove Nick Fury over the edge.

Mr. July by jibrailis:  Tony is the only one who can defend Steve’s virtue. Tony hates his life.

The Last Love Song of Anthony E. Stark by jibrailis:  After contracting an Asgardian virus, Tony starts forgetting things. And people. And Steve.

Average Avengers Local Chapter 7 of New York City by hetrez:  Steve and Tony accidentally start a national do-gooders association and fall in love.

The Winged Soul by @inukagome15:   It wasn’t until he was three that he realized he was different and no one else could see the wings.

slipping through the years by often_adamanta:  The plane crash and subsequent ice might have killed him, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t still around, haunting those he cares about. And since the only person who can see him is Tony Stark, death sure isn’t going to be boring.

The Act of Creation Will Be Your Salvation (series) by @scifigrl47:  When Tony Stark was seventeen years old, he built his first AI. On that day, he ceased to be his father’s creation, and became a creating force in his own right. That one act likely saved his life, and not always in the most obvious ways.

Four (or Five) Reasons for Kidnapping Tony Stark by @scifigrl47:  There are four reasons for kidnapping Tony Stark. Tony’s sick of all of them. Well, there’s potentially a fifth, but it’s highly unlikely that Captain America will suddenly fulfill THAT fantasy. Tony’s deeply disappointed about that.Steve Rogers, as always, is oblivious. At least, that is, until someone who isn’t him kidnaps Tony. Then he’s just pissed.

His Fate Will be Unlearned by @scifigrl47:  Tony Stark spent his childhood making weapons, filling the hole his father left in the world when he succumbed to alcohol, grief, and his own demons. At the age of fifteen, he ran away from home, and made it as far as MIT before all of his responsibilities caught up to him. Now seventeen, he just wants to finish his degree and escape from everything connected to the Stark name.Steve Rogers crashed into the icy North Atlantic in the 1940’s, sacrificing himself to save the world. He never expected to wake up, and now that he has, he’s not sure he’s glad. The US Army has other plans for him, but for now, Steve is slowly learning to live life in the 21st century, and taking classes at Boston College. He’s beginning to suspect that there is no escape.Boston College is on the T’s Green Line. MIT is on the Red. The two lines meet at the Park Street Station, and so will Steve and Tony.

Weighing of the Heart by @scifigrl47:  Steve Rogers hasn’t really had a particularly easy life. He’s struggled along, he’s proud of himself, he’s self-sufficient and capable and he works damn hard. He has friends and a purpose and he’s only a few semesters from graduating college. He’s managed, but his life has been far from easy. That’s mostly because of a slight filing error. The last thing that Steve needed was someone to watch over him. The only thing that his Guardian Angel needs is a second chance to make a first impression.

Semaphore by DevilDoll:  “I’m trying to like you, Tony. You’re just making it very hard.” Steve Rogers/Tony Stark

Love Among the Hydrothermal Vents by DevilDoll:  In which Namor has a thing for Steve, an octopus has a thing for Tony, and Steve and Tony eventually have a thing for each other.

Engaging the Enemy by tsukinofaerii:  Iron Man is one of the more persistent villains that the Ultimates face, with a special fondness for one Captain America. As Steve starts to findout more and more about him, the lines between hero and villain begin to blur. Sometimes, you don’t have to be on the right side of the law to be in the right.

Run Program: DUM-E by (Amuly) @everybodyilovedies:   Taking care of Tony is a lot of work. Especially when you’ve only got one arm. And your code dates back to the 1980s.

America Isn’t Chicken by (Amuly) @everybodyilovedies:  After a Civil War, death, rebirth, a takeover by Osborn, brain deletion, and the fall of Asgard, Steve and Tony might just be starting to get back on solid ground with one another. Things aren’t perfect, not yet, but they can be in the same room as each other without resorting to violence, and they’ve even managed to share a smile or two.
Seems like the perfect time, then, for Tony to try and fuck it all up with a stupid game of gay chicken.Meanwhile, as if he didn’t have enough to worry about, Tony realizes some kind of supervillainous trouble is brewing when increasingly advanced armors start popping up all over Manhattan, looking strangely reminiscent of his tech. On the other side of the world, Steve gets news that Zola is on the move in Russia, with some sort of nefarious plan at work.Which will ruin them first? Will it be this unknown armored villain who is after Tony’s tech? Or will it be Zola unleashing his mysterious plan on the world? Or will Steve and Tony prove to be their own worst enemies, destroying the tentative truce they managed to forge with their own stubbornness?

Sins of Omission by @kiyaar (WiP): A Post-Civil War, Pre-Secret Invasion AU where Steve is dead, Tony’s a mess, and everything sucks. In which Tony deals poorly with Steve’s death, falls off the wagon, sees ghosts, and misses a lot.Oh, and the Skrulls are about to invade.

Nostalgia by @some-blue-jack (WiP):  “Fuck my life. Why me?” Tony asked.

In the Stillness of Remembering by @elise509:   Steve Rogers is a reminder of a past that Tony Stark would rather forget. But when Steve’s own ghosts suddenly become the present, Tony finds he and Steve need each other to face the future.

Say When by ann2who @stark-spangled-lovers:  ** Iron Man 2 AU ⎪Undercover AU **** Can be read as a stand alone! **Book 1 of the Say When series. An alternate version of Iron Man 2. What if Steve was unfrozen early? What if instead of Natasha, Steve got assigned to help Tony while the genius was slowly dying of palladium poisoning? What if he never revealed his identity to him until the very moment the Avengers first came together, forming a team?

Slipping Off the Page Into Your Hands by @sineala:   Soulmates have their first words to each other written on their wrists. This should make it easy. For Steve and Tony, it is anything but. Steve’s problem is that the future he has awoken into is nothing he was ever expecting: he has a soulmate now. Who might be a robot. And if his soulmate is Iron Man, how can he be so attracted to Tony Stark? It should be impossible. Tony’s problem is that he is Iron Man, his soulmate is a man whom he in no way deserves, and he is going to fight everything in his heart and do his best to make sure Steve never, ever finds out the whole truth.

Think of This As Solving Problems (The Never Should Have Occurred) by @sineala:   No one knows Tony is Iron Man. Then Tony gets amnesia, and literally no one knows Tony is Iron Man.

Bond Has it Covered by sara_holmes:  Tony thought they had trouble getting along when they were dealing with a major global crisis. Apparently that had nothing on how they fell apart when they weren’t distracted by smashing aliens.

As Sharp As Any Thorn by RurouniHime:  It’s four days to Christmas, there’s a city in shambles, and the nation is in mourning because of the actions of a single man.

How to Excel at Supervillainy (and Lose Your Heart to America) by Zekkass:  And that’s how Tony’s supervillainy hobby got way way way complicated.

And I’d Buy a Big House Where We Both Could Live by shinkonokokoro: Missing: Tony Stark, billionaire businessman, heir to Stark Industries, reward: noneOnly Steve didn’t know that when he picked up the waterlogged unconscious man from the bank of a river.

Deep In the Heart of Me by Finely Honed: There were days when the realization that he was someone’s father made Steve’s head hurt, but mostly he was grateful that he could trust his instincts, because apparently Peter was what had been missing from his life. Yes, he still had lingering, unresolved issues from his time in the Army, and sure, he had what Bucky annoyingly referred to as a criminally untapped ass, and no life outside of work and Peter, but Steve was okay with how his life had turned out because of trusting his instincts.Unfortunately, those same instincts had straight up betrayed him by going absolutely haywire upon being exposed to Tony Stark.Veteran single dad Steve runs a tattoo shop. For his 40th birthday, Pepper arranges for Tony to get that tattoo he always wanted, and he winds up with the mother of all crushes instead. Jumping out of airplanes is one thing, but falling in love is something else entirely. Steve struggles with the idea of actually letting someone into his life. Tony is left trying to keep his heart from being broken while Steve figures things out.

And you were absolutely alone. No one cared if you showed up or not.

Bucky’s mom never liked you. Always said that you were just for fun but not someone to settle down with.

Those words haunted you to this day.

Steve/Tony Fic Recs: Truth Spell

Hiya! This list is for the anon who wanted truth serum/spells fic recs, here you go, hope you like them :)

Truth by valtyr: Captain America takes truth serum. Tony is all over that.

The Greatest Secret of All by laireshi (@laireshi): Captain America and Iron Man are hit by a truth spell. So why is Tony Stark acting weird?

Veridicality by Sineala (@sineala): When Steve is accidentally exposed to a truth serum, Tony learns that Steve has been keeping a lot of feelings hidden.

The Best Policy by cylobaby27: Tony Stark breezes through life on bluster and bullshit. When he gets hit by a truth spell, he locks himself away in his workshop so he can find a way to reverse it without anyone finding out. So why can’t he say no when Steve keeps asking to spend time with him?

whatever you ask by theappleppielifestyle (@theappleppielifestyle): Tony is temporarily cursed to answer any question truthfully.

Hero Worship by Wordsplat (@wordsplat): It’s the morning of their honeymoon, and the absolute last thing either of them were expecting was Loki’s wedding gift. Steve is turned small, Tony is turned truthful, and everything is fluff and smut and rainbows.

I’m No Superman by kellebelle: Tony gets hurt. While he’s in the hospital he is on morphine (aka some sort of ridiculous emotional truth serum and Tony is in no way happy about that). Sappy times ensue.

Gravitational Pull by antigrav_vector: A strange temple floating in space is discovered, and Steve and Tony are the logical choices to go investigate. What they find is going to make or break their relationship…

Tidal Pull by antigrav_vector: Namor calls them when a strange temple floating in the sea is discovered. Steve and Tony are the logical choices to go investigate, thanks to their trip to space.

Comfort, Truth, Joy (the Mountains of Madness remix) by cptxrogers (@cptxrogers): A mysterious signal is emanating from deep within Antarctica, and Steve and Tony set out to investigate. If they can make it through the freezing temperatures and the deadly ice fields, something even stranger awaits them deep in the antarctic mountains.

Blame the Golden Vapor by darklumi: Tony didn’t think getting crop dusted by some truth spewing fairy dust was going to be such a big deal. In fact, it was the perfect opportunity to get some dirt on the other Avengers and SHIELD. He could make fun of them, black mail them, it would be great! Tony just didn’t think that it also applied to him or he would have just locked himself away with his suits.

The story where the Avengers get doused with a golden vapor that makes them tell the truth. cue angst, humor, and some love!

Lies We Tell Ourselves by AetherSprite (AranthianPrincess): Tony is kidnapped and no one is coming to rescue him. Or are they?

Long Story Short by scribblywobblytimeylimey: “A spell makes the Avengers narrate their own lives… out loud.Just what it says. Magic - or really complicated science - causes the Avengers to start verbally narrating their own lives as they go.

A super-secret Avenger-y meeting is going down when the whole conference room gets hit. Everyone gets it at once, but don’t worry - there’s kissing.

Like Word Throw-Up by battybatzgirl: Loki slips Steve some truth serum, and Tony can’t help but take advantage of that.

Solution: Truth Serum by wisia (@wisia): In which Steve can’t take it anymore and Tony decides the best solution is a truth serum. Sort of.

I just donated to the Cap Fundraiser in honour of Charitable Getting’s ‘two for non’. As for a request: Steve and dogs, because dogs.

AWWW Two For Non! I loved that idea when I wrote it and I’m still fond of it :)

“Is this a Serum thing?” Natasha asked him once, strolling in Central Park. She was tailing someone for reasons Steve hadn’t really looked into; he was just there for some fresh air. But as per usual…

“I don’t know,” he said delightedly, as yet another dog loped up to him. This made fifteen dogs who had come to say hi, and he looked like the fourth dog who would be sticking around to play a constant rolling game of fetch. Steve picked up a slobbery tennis ball, threw it, and beamed as they all raced off after it. Well, all except the giant Newfie, who was constantly trying to lean on Steve’s leg even when he was using it to walk with. “Don’t you like dogs?”

She wrinkled her nose. “Sure, but I don’t attract them like some kind of walking rawhide chewie.”

“Maybe they just know I love them. Yes I do,” Steve said, bending down to hug the Newfie. It let out a gentle, basso profundo Boof. Steve barked back. The rest of the dogs came racing back, trailing the Pit Bull who had been the lucky one to fetch the ball.

“Captain America – truth, justice, and slobber,” Natasha said, as Steve threw the ball again.

“Dogs know a hero when they see one,” Steve said, then lost his balance as the Newfie finally won the battle with his legs. Immediately three or four other dogs piled on, and Natasha rolled her eyes and left him there, covered in canines and laughing.

Just donated $5, XD! Um, so Cap drabble??? *scratches head trying to think of a good one* Bucky!Cap finds a hurt puppy after a mission. Cue puppy-dog eyes at Sam and wanting to keep it. XD!

The puppy was young – old enough to be a little awkward, but young enough he was still obviously a puppy – and probably desperate. He looked thin, and he didn’t shy away from Bucky’s arm the way most dogs did.

“Cap,” Sam called, from a few floors up, looking down into the alley. “We should move, man, emergency services will be here soon and we can’t do anything more here.”

Bucky made a soft shushing noise, directed more at the puppy than at Sam as it limped towards him. “That’s right, brother,” he muttered. “Come to Captain America, truth justice liberty, blah blah…”

Steve, who had rescued everyone from little kids to heavyweight wrestlers in his day, used to pick up the odd cat or dog (once, infamously, a snake) but he usually handed them off to emergency services. Firemen were suckers for kittens. Bucky hadn’t rescued any animals As Captain America yet, usually because of the arm, but also because he wasn’t sure he was capable of giving one away once it crawled into his lap.

The puppy – black wispy terrier-fur, a long foxlike snout, bright blue eyes – snuffled at Bucky’s fingers, then ducked under them and made straight for his feet, still limping but making very good time. It grabbed onto the criss-crossed laces on his boots and began worrying it with soft, squeaking growls.

“Funny, I got a best friend who used to be that way,” Bucky told him.

“Cap, did you hear me?” Sam asked, landing next to him in the alley, wings folded in. The puppy looked up and whuffed disdainfully. Bucky gathered it into his hands, careful of the front left leg, and straightened up.

Sam looked at the dog, then at Bucky, whose eyes were wide and hopeful behind the helmet’s mask.

“We can give him to a fireman,” he said, voice indicating he knew it was hopeless.

“OR,” Bucky suggested, “We can name him Scout and he can be Captain America’s sidekick.”

Sam sighed. “Are we gonna take him to the vet in-uniform, or do we get to go home and change first?”

“Uniform,” Bucky said, turning and marching confidently out of the alley, now that he’d won. “I bet they give us a discount for being superheroes.”

any recs for shorter fics with happy endings? they don't have to be fluff, but resolution would be nice. the chemicals in my brain aren't doing the functioning thing today, so everything kinda sucks and i can't focus long enough to get really invested in anything. if not, that's cool too! i hope you have a wonderful day :)

I am constantly amazed at how authors can tell a wonderful story in just a few words!  I know I don’t rec them that often, but there are some great ones.  Here are a few that I hope cheer you up!

Wanderer by 51stcenturyfox: Written for a sleepwalking prompt on Avengerkink.Tony jerks away like he’s awakened to find himself taunting an alligator with a raw chicken, and almost falls on the floor.“You sleepwalked,” Steve says, stating the obvious,“into my bed.”

Truth by valtyr:   Captain America takes truth serum. Tony is all over that.

Thumb, Index and Pinky Extended by Eudoxia:   Tony Stark is twenty-one when he loses his voice. It shouldn’t matter, but in a world where the first words your Soulmate says to you are marked on your skin, it can be pretty damn annoying.

Indecent Proposal by gyzym and Siria:   On the plus side, marriage is bound to be easier than proposing.

Visible at Last by @awesomeavocadolove:   Based in a world where everyone has a soulmate’s name written on their arm – but not visible to the world until they touch.

The Truth of It Is by nightwalker:   You can’t lie to your soulmate, everyone knows that. Tony’s always thought it was just hype until he tries to sass Steve and the words freeze in his throat.

Leave Your Marks Written Upon My Skin by blue_jack:  “I want you to keep your hands right here, alright?”

Piece of Work by @orbingarrow:  TITLE: How to Make Friends - T. Stark. - Age 6OBSERVATION: People do not want to be friends with a know-it-all
HYPOTHESIS: If I act less smart I will make friends.
PREDICTION: If I let Jimmy Francis thinks he’s smarter than me he will be my friend.
EXPERIMENT: Gave wrong answer in class when Jimmy had his hand raised too and it was an easy question so he got it right.
RESULT: Jimmy Francis sat with me at lunch after I got the answer wrong and he got it right.
CONCLUSION: Hypothesis confirmed. I will make friends if I’m not so smart.ADDITIONAL RESULT: Jimmy Francis ate the cookie Jarvis packed me.
CONCLUSION 2: Jimmy Francis is a dick.—-35+ years have passed and Tony’s still waiting to be proven wrong.

Purple Monkey Dishwasher by @robintcj:   And it’s not that Steve doesn’t want their friends to know. It’s not even that he doesn’t want the world to know. He’s proud of his relationship with Tony. He likes Tony.

Convention Exclusive by @sineala:   “I’m interested in commissioning a sketch,” Iron Man said. He leaned forward, edging into Steve’s personal space, splaying his gauntleted hands on the table. “I’d like you to draw me wearing only a tiny thong, with Captain America staring at my nearly-naked body in horror.”(Or: Steve Rogers, former artist for the Captain America comics, is signing autographs at a comics convention when he meets his biggest fan. Not an AU.)
