Inside Betty’s Closet: Learn more about Betty Ford’s style as we highlight some of her favorite fashion designers and their clothes she wore as First Lady.
Albert Capraro sketched this floral printed safari top and skirt ensemble for Mrs. Ford in 1976. Rather than having a separate cream shirt as the original design called for, the completed piece was a dress with a button down front and side pockets. The matching jacket still featured side breast pockets and a tie ribbon belt.
The First Lady wore it on June 2, 1976, at the arrival ceremony for King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia of Spain. She also continued to wear it after leaving the White House.
