The Night Visitor

Color Pencil Plate for my portfolio.  the Bat is the Mexican Long-tongued bat, and the Flower goes by either the Night-Blooming Cerus, Queen of The Night, or Dragon Fruit Plant.  I really wanted to draw a bat, so i stuck a flower in there to justify it for portfolio. In retrospect, I probably shouln’t have started a plate on black so I didn’t have to re-learn the media again while doing portfolio.

Media: Faber-Castel Pencils on Black Canson Illustration Board.

Size: 16 x 20 inches

Time: 20 hours.

wow, keep up the good work! what tools do you use?

Thank you madebyflou!

My tools:
I use the coloured pencil (1 - Koh-I-Noor Polycolor) or the big lead one (3 - Koh-I-Noor Versatile) for blocking out and the regular pencil (2 - Staedtler Mars Lumograph) for tighter stuff. When inking it varies what I go for, but generally it’s the brush (4 - Raphael 8408), nib (5 - Gillott 303) and the brush pen (6 - Pentel Pocket Brush). Most colouring I do digitally (7 - Cintiq 24HD. Long time super fan of the good old Intous 3, however it messed up my shoulder not meeting a good height at my desk), but use coloured ink from time to time.

I prefer Talons or Pelican drawing ink, mostly using Canson or Letraset Bristol Board.
