Hi! I was looking through your photoshop answers tag, and I was wondering how you "sharpen" gifs. Do you use the sharpen tool or...? Thanks.
Sorry it took me so long to answer but I wanted to answer this while editing something in photoshop and… well… I just opened photoshop right now. Sorry ^^;
Yes, I do use the sharpen tool but for me it’s different than for other people who sharpen their gifs (aka everyone).
I have a very different way of making gifs compared to other photoshop users. I could go into full detail if people asked, but here’s the cliff notes, what I do vs. what majority/other people do:
I open the video first vs. Others import the video into frames
I color/edit/sharpen/watermark on the original video file vs. Others doing all of this directly to the layers/frames
I export the video and THEN import the video into frames vs. This already being done for people so they just save the gif(s).
So naturally, for majority of people, they either have something installed in photoshop (which you can find by looking through some of the photoshop tutorial-centric blogs on tumblr I believe?) or they sharpen each frame/layer individually. I, on the other hand, just sharpen the entire video and then export it.
Sorry if that’s confusing for you! But here’s basically a rundown of how I sharpen gifs and photos (I’m editing a photo atm but essentially, it’s the same as how I’d sharpen a gif)
And of course, here’s the before and after sharpened picture (before coloring ofc)
