I wanted to share with you guys what I’ve been working on. This is original fiction, tentatively titled “Dead Zones.” I have more than “part one” written, so if anyone wants to read more, drop me a line and I can post the next part. If you read it, I hope you’ll let me know!
The desert sun is blinding. It’s reflecting off of everything, and you forgot to bring your sunglasses, like an idiot. They’re on your kitchen table, in plain sight, so that you wouldn’t forget them. Not that that helped. There’s nothing to do about that now, of course. You’re already an hour into your drive, and you have a ways to go before you can take a break.
Your eyes glance over the landscape on either side of the highway, skimming over the endless zipper of train tracks to the miles of pecan trees that stretch out on either side of you. When you pass the canal, the sheer expanse of trees boggles your mind. Your eyes keep skipping back and forth between the highway and the endless length of them, stretching on and on into the vanishing point.
You turn your music up higher.
