can i just say that this is the most strangest but in some way sweetest love declaration

anonymous asked:

Could you recommend any fics with heartbroken!Bucky(over Steve falling in love with Peggy) or any good post ws fics with Bucky who hates/is indifferent to Steve?

I can! I will recommend you some right this second so I don’t forget!

There’s Nothing Left of You by notallbees

Rated E; complete

Bucky’s having a hard time reconciling Captain America with the friend he left behind in Brooklyn. It’s bad enough that every time he closes his eyes he sees the inside of a torture chamber. Now, every time he opens them again, he sees a stranger with Steve Rogers’ eyes and smile.

Sonic Says: This fic does a great job of capturing Bucky’s frustration with Steve - especially how he reacts to Steve’s body - and how the changes mess with their dynamic. It’s basically a character study of gritty, brittle, broken Bucky, with some remarkably intimate, beautiful smut. And Steve and Bucky have some fantastic dialogue.

You’d Be So Nice to Come Home To by EmilianaDarling

Rated E; first in a series

“What about you, Barnes?” asks Dugan. The sound of his voice brings Bucky back to the present, dredges him out of memories of a beat-up little apartment with sunlight streaming in through the windows. “Got yourself a girl waiting for you back home?”

There’s an answer on the tip of his tongue, one that he’ll deliver with a cocky grin and a half-laugh and a little shake of his head. But Bucky is exhausted and hungry and so sore it hurts to move, and one of the guys in their platoon fucking died yesterday. His mouth tastes like iodine water and his feet hurt and none of it’s going to get better any time soon, and all at once Bucky misses Steve so badly he can barely see straight.

“Yeah,” Bucky declares abruptly, the word escaping from his mouth before he fully realizes what he’s saying. “Yeah, I do.”

Sonic Says: This is probably my favorite pining Bucky. He’s so quietly passionate, and watching how he comes to terms with his feelings throughout the fic will wreck you. The ending will probably make you cry one beautiful, single, princely tear as you try to hold yourself together.

And, I’m not sure it even needs to be said, but: Not Easily Conquered; especially for The Thirteen Letters, which is pretty much the epitome of pining wartime Bucky.

Post-WS Bucky

Reciprocity by osprey_archer

Rated T-M; series

Bucky had been treated like a thing for decades. It shouldn’t be a surprise that he’d learned to see other people that way.

Sonic Says: I’ve recommended this fic so many times I’ve probably run out of things to say. Wait, no I haven’t. This fic is the best; and it is brutal, and hurtful, and eerily hopeful in all of the strangest, most satisfying ways that leave you questioning everything about the characters and their relationships. Everyone should read this and cry with me. This is one of the most well-developed, convincing portrayals of post-WS Bucky in the entire fandom.

Reflex Memories by sariane

Rated M; complete

Bucky Barnes never remembers who he is.That doesn’t stop him from falling in love with Steve Rogers.

Sonic Says: I recommended this one recently, too, but it’s perfect for this list. Especially because it so beautifully develops Bucky’s post-WS persona and his gradual reunion with Steve. Not to be dry about it - I mean, there are a LOT of feels - but the pacing and character development are really what make the feels happen as hard as they do. And it’s chock full of the sweetest bonding moments. Just. Yeah. I love this fic.

Memory by emilyenrose

Rated M; complete

He remembered nothing. After the first few weeks, he asked to be called James.

Sonic Says: This fic is really complex and mostly deals with Steve, and how he reconciles the differences between his feelings for post-WS Bucky and the Bucky he remembers. The post-WS Bucky in this is one of my favorite characterizations, though - subdued, but with a lot of life and emotion hiding under the surface.

These are the ones I can remember off the top of my head, but if I think of anymore, I’ll be sure to pop them on the wartime Stucky rec list I’m making. :)
