WME-IMG Enters Content Partnership With UNICEF

WME-IMG is entering a new content partnership with UNICEF.

Under the collaboration, the company will lead the co-creation and distribution of content to elevate UNICEF’s causes. Through its network across entertainment, sports, and fashion, the company will look to partner UNICEF with key influencers, award-winning directors and producers, and global brands to create consumer-facing marketing campaigns and initiatives.

“WME-IMG’s employees work with some of the world’s greatest influencers, brands, and storytellers; all of whom care deeply about the welfare of our next generation,” said WME-IMG Co-CEOs Ariel Emanuel and Patrick Whitesell. “Through this partnership, we will mobilize our global network to ignite action around UNICEF’s most pressing issues, encouraging people to get — and stay — involved.”

UNICEF was briefly mentioned in Tom Hiddleston’s speech following his Golden Globe win for best actor in limited series. Hiddleston, who is repped by WME, is a major supporter of the organization, and was featured in a video message at WME-IMG’s recent retreat, expressing his happiness that the company is partnering with the cause.

In addition to this partnership, the WME-IMG Foundation will continue its support of partner schools in Compton, Brooklyn, London, and Nashville through mentorship programs, arts and education grants, client collaborations, and teacher assistance; as well as its work supporting WME-IMG clients in building and/or expanding their own philanthropic platforms and partnerships. In 2016 alone, the Foundation supported 200 charities in 140 communities globally.

“With 16,000 children dying each day of preventable causes and tens of millions more displaced by violence and extreme poverty, UNICEF’s work on behalf of children is as important now as ever,” said Caryl M. Stern, president and CEO of the U.S. Fund for UNICEF. “Through this partnership with WME-IMG, we can change the narrative and the way the entertainment industry thinks about global social impact. It is an extraordinary opportunity and I am very excited about what we can achieve together. With their support, we look forward to engaging with influential figures around the world to keep the world’s children in the spotlight, allowing them to survive and thrive despite the obstacles.”

As a rocket-firing LCI lays down a barrage on the already obscured beach on Peleliu, a wave of Alligators (LVTs, or Landing Vehicle Tracked) churn toward the defenses of the strategic island September 15, 1944.

The amphibious tanks with turret-housed cannons went in in after heavy air and sea bombardment. Army and Marine assault units stormed ashore on Peleliu on September 15, and it was announced that organized resistance was almost entirely ended on September 27.

Operation ‘Stalemate II’
The Peleliu operation was code-named Stalemate II, a name that seems ironic in hindsight, because initially the campaign was viewed with relative optimism. The main task of securing the island was given to the 1st Marine Division, a largely veteran unit that had seen action at Guadalcanal and New Britain. The 1st Marine Division consisted of the 1st, 5th, and 7th Marine Regiments (infantry) and the 11th Marines (artillery support).

The January sales can sometimes provide an opportunity to purchase a high quality item that will be treasured, but more often in the UK they enable a kind of disposable-fashion mania, where unethically (and poorly) made items are snapped up for a ‘bargain’, only to be used once and then disgarded. My own overstuffed closet includes several items bought in sales over the years which I have literally never worn. This video introduces the second annual FIGHT FAST FASHION campaign. The initiative runs this week, and encourages people to share images of their favourite long-loved or vintage clothing.

After being surprised by online responses to her appearance in a recruiting ad, software engineer Isis Wenger wanted to see if anyone else felt like they didn’t fit a “cookie-cutter mold.” The response to her #ILookLikeAnEngineer campaign dwarfs those initial reactions.

The hashtag, which was generating thousands of responses and tweets Tuesday, grew out of Wenger’s post at the Medium website, in which she described what must have been a frustrating experience: agreeing to be one of her tech company’s highlighted workers for a recruiting campaign — only to see many people question whether she actually works there as an engineer.

Enter the Gungeon

My boyfriend has really fallen in love with this game I got him on Steam and he’s turned it into a campaign. Initially, I played it by myself for the first level of the Gungeon. I had to make a character with a reason to want to kill her past, which ended up being that she’s a farmgirl who killed a train full of people when doing poorly fixing up a train track maintenance job. Upon entering the Gungeon, I’m armed with my pitchfork which I stab at everything like a child who has to touch everything. I do this in the Hall of Knowledge where a book comes to life and my pitchfork turns into a fiery Satan fork that allows me to burn at least half the library. Enter the tutorial guy, Ser Manuel.

Manny: “WHAT HAVE YOU DONE! MY BOOKS! WHY HAVE YOU BURNED MAH BOOKS!?”

Vera: -pointing at the charred remains with her firefork- “The books started it.”

DM: “Manny looks at the pitchfork in your hand and knows you’re full of it.”

Manny: “DON’T. DISTURB. THE. BOOKS.”

Vera: “…” -kicks the bookcase while maintaining eye contact as she now officially hates this man-

He  ends up kicking Vera out early before teaching her everything she needs to know to survive in the Gungeon. Lucky for her, she not only beats the first level alone but takes no damage whatsoever in her first boss fight. While wandering around down in the Gungeon, she finds a statue with a description plate that is oddly blank.

DM: “The statue looks like a shrine to you. What do you wish to do?”

Me: “The inscription isn’t there?”

DM: “No…”

Me: “Can I carve something into the plate?”

DM: “…sure.”

Vera: -carves MANNY SUCKS into the plate-

DM: “…congratulations. You have successfully carved MANNY SUCKS into this shrine. Nothing else happens.” -sighs heavily- “What the hell is that Tumblr page? I need to tell them of this nonsense.”

While down in the Gungeon, I pick up a glass eye that apparently once belong to Manny prior to having his brains blown out. LUCKY FOR ME I end up with the chance to rub this in Manny’s face. The second level of the Gungeon I am joined by a friend of mine who agreed to play with us. So I get rocketed upwards in the elevator rather than down because a man named Taylor is performing maintenance on the elevator for a moment in order for me to meet my friend’s character. My friend goes to meet Manuel and since I have nothing to do, I follow behind and anger Manuel who snaps his fingers and sends me back to the start of the Gungeon so he doesn’t have to deal with me. Before my friend can even get his Ammonomicon I run back down to the Hall of Knowledge screaming at the top of my lungs.

Vera: -holding the glass eye high into the air so that Manny can’t miss seeing it- “DID YOU LOSE SOMETHING!? I FOUND SOMETHING! DID YOU LOSE SOMETHING?! BECAUSE I FOUND SOMETHING!!!”

Manny: -ghost face contorted now in rage and uncaring about my friend in the room- “THAT’S….YOU…” -snaps his fingers-

Both my friend and I are transported OUT OF THE HALL OF KNOWLEDGE. He never was taught anything nor did he receive anything and now has to use my Ammonomicon to know anything that’s happening around us. Can’t wait for Level 3!

Obviously car companies would sell to every person on Earth if they could, regardless of sex or gender, so they could make all the money. But in 1964, when the first Ford Mustang hit the sales floor, there was a concentrated effort to sell it to women specifically. As part of their initial campaign, Ford put Mustang ads in the “women’s” section of 2,600 newspapers on a single day. But the first Mustang had already been sold, two days before it was supposed to be available, to, no surprise, a lady. Gail Brown was a 22-year-old teacher and the car’s first-ever buyer. As of 2013, she still owned it.

DeRay Mckesson’s Clinton endorsement is not Black Lives Matter’s endorsement

Prominent activist DeRay Mckesson endorsed Hillary Clinton in an op-ed published Wednesday by the Washington Post. Mckesson is the co-founder of reform initiative Campaign Zero and is often labeled a leader of Black Lives Matter, which started in 2013. But don’t get it twisted, other activists from BLM-affiliated organizations said.

Skulls Remaining On The Field And Trees Destroyed At The Battle Of The Wilderness, 1864

Although the Wilderness is usually described as a draw, it could be called a tactical Confederate victory, but a strategic victory for the Union army. Lee inflicted heavy numerical casualties, but as a percentage of Grant’s forces they were smaller than the percentage of casualties suffered by Lee’s smaller army. And, unlike Grant, Lee had very little opportunity to replenish his losses.

Understanding this disparity, part of Grant’s strategy was to grind down the Confederate army by waging a war of attrition. The only way that Lee could escape from the trap that Grant had set was to destroy the Army of the Potomac while he still had sufficient force to do so, but Grant was too skilled to allow that to happen. Thus, the Overland Campaign, initiated by the crossing of the Rappahannock, and opening with this battle, set in motion the eventual destruction of the Army of Northern Virginia.

Sanders Responded To A Transgender-Rights Survey, But Clinton Didn’t
Trump also did not respond to a Trans United Fund questionnaire sent to presidential candidates.
By Dominic Holden

Bernie Sanders declared he was an ally to the transgender community and he vowed to expand transgender protections under existing federal civil rights laws if he’s elected — according to his answers to a presidential questionnaire sent in April by a transgender-rights advocacy group.

More than a month after receiving the same questions, however, Hillary Clinton hasn’t provided answers to the Trans United Fund’s survey — even though her campaign initially indicated she would respond.

“I think Sanders’s answers were thoughtful and strong,” said Hayden Mora, chair of Trans United Fund’s organizing committee, which was formed this year as a response to a growing effort by conservatives to block and repeal transgender rights.

In contrast, Mora said the group’s leaders “feel disappointed and perplexed” by Clinton’s silence.

“Too often, it seems as if the ‘T’ in LGBT is silent.”

“She has been a champion on these issues,” said Mora. “But I’m disappointed. The trans community is in tremendous crisis, not just due to issues of violence and HIV, but also because there is a national coordinated political attack by extremists now more than ever.”

Let me get this straight...

Obama has been promising to end the war in Iraq since his initial campaign.

It takes him six years to even start removing troops.

Then a few months after that he requests to start another war where the old war had never even really ended.

And during his first year we gave him the Nobel peace prize for all the wonderful stuff he said he was going to do that he had not yet done and still hasn’t done?

Have I missed something?

Greek soldiers fight the Axis Italian Fascist invasion in the mountains of Albania during the Greco-Italian War, which lasted from 28 October 1940 to 23 April 1941. The soldiers prepare to fire a 65mm mountain gun while the artillery target officer on the right calculates the trajectory. The Greco-Italian War marked the beginning of the Balkan Campaign and the initial Greek counter-offensive was the first successful Allied land campaign against the Axis forces in the war. I can’t help but wonder if Inafune is trying to pull a Jack and Jill with MN9 and Red Ash. Like, when Adam Sandler makes a bad movie, he gets producers to give him 5 million bucks and then makes the movie as cheaply as humanly possible, fills the movie with product placement, and then he pockets both the initial funding and the profits.

MN9 does not look like a project of passion that was given four million dollars to shine as hard as it could, it looks like a mediocre budget game made by a college kid in their spare time. It doesn’t look like four million dollars were used in its production. It has Day 1 DLC and preorder skins being sold to people that didn’t back the game. Features that we assumed would be included were made in to stretch goals for a secondary campaign after the initial campaign made its several million dollars. Everything about MN9 stinks and has stunk for a while and it wasn’t until Red Ash came out that we all realized that what we were smelling was shit.

Red Ash looks like it’s going to fail, so Inafune found an obscure but wealthy company to give him money anyway.

Basically the only way this is going to stop is if Mighty No. 9 becomes a commercial failure and Inafune’s name is stripped of all credibility, and when Red Ash launches nobody buys it because of MN9.

It’s just all so shitty. It’s incredible how MN9 turned from this really heartwarming and genuine seeming plea for help in to Adam Sandler. I can’t help but wonder if things would have turned out this way if MN9 had only met its initial funding. Did it start off as a scam, or did it become one after Inafune realized how much money there was to be made from starved Mega Man fans?

Meanwhile, Capcom seems to be moving towards bringing Mega Man back. There’s the upcoming NES game collection, the cartoon, loads of Mega Man tie-in stuff coming out like the Smash Bros and MonHun crossovers. Hopefully Mega Man proper can make a comeback, free from the shit that Inafune’s done to it.

While racist violence is on the rise in Europe, ‘concerned’ citizens take action against refugees, asylum seekers and non-whites. Google Maps hosts this interactive map of Germany that contains detailed information on where refugees and asylum seekers live and how many people live in these marked houses (see screenshots). The initiators, the campaign “Keine Asylantenheime in meiner Nachbarschaft” (”No refugee homes in my neighborhood”), call on people to alert them whenever new housing projects are errected. Refugees are marginalized, criminalized and discriminated against in this white-supremacist society and this map is further proof as it helps racist activists to gather information and ultimately to attack people. Thus, this map is is not in accordance with Google’s terms of use. Please report this so Google is forced to delete this content as it actively supports racist hate crimes.

September 22nd 1922: Great Fire of Smyrna ends

On this day in 1922, the Great Fire of Smyrna ended, having raged for nine days. Smyrna, modern day Izmir, was a historically diverse city in Turkey which had a large Greek and Armenian population, with a Christian majority. In September 1922, towards the end of the Greco-Turkish War, Turkish forces under the command of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk regained control of the city from Greece, and initiated a campaign of violence against non-Muslims. By this time, 700,000 people were in Smyrna, including thousands of refugees from the war. On September 13th, troops set the Armenian quarter alight, and went on a rampage of rape, pillage, and murder, hoping to drive the Christian population out of the city. Half a million Greeks and Armenians were forced to the quayside, where they gathered for protection from the spreading flames and sought a way to escape. There were 21 international battleships in the harbour - from Britain, France, and America - but they had orders not to intervene for fear of jeopardising trade interests with Turkey, leaving the Greeks and Armenians to perish on the waterfront. As more refugees arrived in Smyrna, Atatürk ordered new arrivals to be deported, leading to forced marches which killed thousands of people. The fire finally ended on September 22nd, but the damage was permanent. The ancient Armenian and Greek quarters of the city were completely destroyed, tens of thousands of Greeks and Armenians had been killed, and many more were left homeless. After the fire, around 150,000 refugees were evacuated. While some sources insist the Greeks started the fire, eyewitness reports and subsequent historical investigations have concluded that the fire was a deliberate act by the Turkish army, and the final event of the Armenian Genocide. The Great Fire of Smyrna is little acknowledged in historical memory, mostly due to a cover-up attempt by Turkish and western governments.

Music played, "Moonlight Sonata”.

He often played music in his campaigns after the initial surprise attack – it helped measure progress versus time. Masking his tinnitus was a side benefit.

This was not so much an orchestrated fight as a nasty brawl. Atticus was raised “out in the sticks,” and often used his thick wooden cane to overcome better armed, better trained adversaries. He leaned heavily on it now, panting.

The last guard was down for the count, Atticus had won the fight but it had not been easy.

“Tell me where the artifact is.”

“This is a mistake,” the guard rasped, “you will doom us all.”

“That is not my problem.” Their eyes met and both knew the next, unpleasant step. “Nor yours any longer.” Neither hesitated a moment longer: the guard lunged with his last ounce of strength, Atticus unleashed a lingering spell.

The battle ended with an quiet pop and a ugly, pain-filled sigh.

The night’s gruesome work was far from over. Atticus rested and sorted through a pool of uneasy thoughts. “Time,” he told the empty room, “never enough time.”

As if on queue, the music ended.
