Day 128: California Valley Quail

The state bird of California, the Valley Quail is a New World quail that sports a plume made of six feathers.  Travelling in groups known as coveys, they are often seen taking dust baths with one another.  It is easy to “flush” these birds out from hiding places, as they tend to skitter away on foot when frightened.
