I’ve exchanged an earlier version of this for a new one, as the old one had to much grain for my taste.

To solve wind problems around the Caland Bridge a windshield was needed of 1750 meters long, 25 meters high and 25 percent wind permeability. Of four models, especially aesthetic, the optimum solution was chosen. Instead of a perforated wall loose concrete elements have been applied. The south screen consists of semi-circular discs with a diameter of 18 meters, in the mid-screen, this was reduced to 4 meters. Both have a height of 25 meters. The north screen consists of straight concrete slabs of 10 by 10 meters. Designed by architect Maarten Struijs in collaboration with landscape artist Frans de Wit.

The Caland Bridge was designed by architect Maarten Struijs who - together with landscape artist Frans de Wit - was also responsible for the wind screens around the Caland Canal.
