Mix white cake mix, egg whites, oil, water and sour cream for three to four minutes on medium speed. Split cake batter into three equal amounts, adding red and blue food coloring to two of the portions. Coat three, 4 x 9-inch bread pans with cooking spray and lightly flour the bottoms. Add the three batters to the pans and bake at 350 degrees F for 18-23 minutes. Allow them to cool and remove from pans.
Using a 1-½-inch round cookie cutter, cut circles from each of the baked cakes. (I got 10 out of each cake, but you might be able to get more if you try.)
Using a serrated knife, carefully trim off the browned, baked bottoms of each cake circle.
Using a jumbo straw or plastic tube (one-half or three-quarters-inch in diameter), remove the centers of the cake circles. Be sure to save the red and blue centers to use as plugs for later.
Put a portion of the red cake plugs back into the bottoms of the red cake circles. Pipe a line of frosting around the centers of the red and white cake circles. Stack the white cakes on top of the red cakes and the blue cakes on top of the white cakes.
Add Pop Rocks down the hollow centers of the stacked cakes. Put a portion of the blue cake plugs back into the tops, covering the center filled with Pop Rocks.
Cut licorice rope pieces approximately 1-½ inches long and insert them into the centers of the blue cakes.
*Note: For maximum popping potential, pour the Pop Rocks into the cake centers no earlier than one hour before serving. The moisture in the cakes will cause the Pop Rocks to slightly snap and crackle on their own. In fact, they make a great sizzling sound on the plate. But after about four hours the Pop Rocks lose most of their popping power, so plan accordingly.
Listen, this may be a complete reach, but I feel like their respective placements tell say a little something about them. You have Michael in a bedroom, which makes sense to me bc I see him as a homebody. You have Ashton who we all know loves the outdoors and exploring, and just generally being free. We have Luke in a studio (rehearsal room?) bc that’s where he thrives in expressing himself. Calum is very similar to Luke in that he’s best at expressing himself through music, but I think it’s cool that he’s in a theater bc he’s a writer (not exclusively a songwriter from what I’ve gathered) and he has to take on the different characters he writes about (hence the theater bc he is an actor himself in a way.) You have them each in a place where they feel the most comfortable, but even in their “safe space” they appear to be struggling with their demons. It’s okay to not be okay, and I think this portrays that very well. Anyway I needed to get this off my chest and I need more people to talk to me about this video.
During your time as a bar-maid, you had heard many stories of the infamous Captain Ashton and his dangerous adventures across the seven seas. Batting your eyes and giving your best smile, you would encourage the drunk men to tell you everything they knew about the pirate, not caring if what they were saying was only fiction. You craved a life like his; a life full of adventure and mystery and maybe even a bit of danger, but free to do what you wanted whenever you wanted.
One night, after your shift had ended, you decide to take the short way home through the dark alleys rather than the long way that snaked through the town’s busy streets. You suddenly felt hands shove you up against a wall, three pairs of eyes leering down at you as the stench of alcohol overwhelmed your senses.
“What’s a pretty thing like you walking around at this time of night for?” one of them sneers, making you cringe as the other two laugh behind him.
“And what’s an ugly thing like you touching a lady as beautiful as her for?” a voice from your left challenges, making you turn to see a man with wavy blond hair and a rakish grin on his face. You felt your breath catch in your throat at the sight; you had seen Ashton’s face many times from the wanted posters scattered through the town, but never had you dreamed of seeing him in person. “Now I suggest you take your hands off of her before I make you.”
The man releases you, drawing his sword and snarling at the newcomer as the two men behind him copy his actions. Ashton lazily draws his own sword, encouraging them forward and laughing when they comply. He bats away their swords easily, knocking them unconscious with the butt of his weapon. He runs up to you and takes your hand, a mischievous look in his eyes as he whispers, “Run.”
You follow Ashton as he runs through the town, hearing shouts from behind as you jump over crates and dodge townspeople. He leads you on to his ship, informing his crew of their swift departure as he pulls you towards the helm. Once Ashton had safely eased out of the harbor and the ship was out on the open sea, you couldn’t help but let out a laugh. After years of dreaming about getting away, it finally happened.
Ashton couldn’t help but quietly laugh with you, glancing at you as you look up at the stars. In all of his years of being a pirate, he had stolen plenty of treasure, but you were perhaps the most precious jewel in his possession.
“ Luke/Pengo: he’s obviously a penguin. he’s adorable, he’s dorky, he’s clumsy, and he’s awkward in the cutest way.
puppy is obviously what everyone calls him, and it’s adorable as hell,
but I do call him monkey more than puppy. just because it’s a cuter
nickname and he’s really playful and random. but yes, stick with puppy
because monkey might confuse people.
Michael/Kitto: he’s a
kitten. soft and cuddly, and you just think he’s so adorable you wanna
pet his head.. but if you mess with him in the wrong way those claws are
gonna come out and scratch your face up. lol.
always had him down as a kangaroo because of how thick his accent is and
how Australian he acts.. but I also see him as a Panda. like, he’s
adorable and happy and bubbly like a cute little baby panda, but if you
mess with his family or people close to him, he’ll defend them to the
death. like, he’s really protective, but it’s underneath the fluffy,
bubbly cuteness. plus they stand for calm strength and determination,
with being gentle and nurturing, and I think Ash possesses all of those
qualities. so yeah.. I would say he’s more than likely a panda over a
kangaroo.. but both fit him well. “

okay but imagine: late monday night, six days before prom, you get a phone call from your best friend Luke, asking you about the tux he needed to rent for prom. “what color should I get?” he asks you. confused, you respond, “idk why does it matter?” “well we need to match, ya know, so like what color is your dress?” Luke asks as though it were perfectly obvious and now you’re even more confused, he’d never asked you nor had he even hinted that he was going to ask you so you stop him mid sentence, “wait, Luke?” “hmm?” “since when are we going to prom together? like, as dates?” after a long pause he mumbles quietly under his breath,“fuck, I forgot to ask you” “LUKE!” you all but shout, unable to control your laughter as Luke runs his hands over his face laughing, “don’t worry I’ll make it up to you, just hold on,” Luke promises and you can hear movement as if he were trying to find his keys, “Luke, really its fine, I mean like yes I’ll go with you, you don’t have to do anything,” you assure him as he continues to get himself together, “no, I’m going to do this right. I promise” and the line goes dead and you don’t know what to expect, considering it was nearing ten o’clock at night. but, nonetheless, at almost 11 pm there was a tapping sound on your window and in opening your curtains you saw Luke standing in your front yard, holding a bouquet of flowers in his hand and he motions for you to come down to meet him, so you run down the stairs, jumping down the last few steps to reach the front door and as you pulled it open you revealed Luke, standing in all black, holding out the bouquet to you with a sheepish grin on his face, “so is it still yes for being my prom date?” blushing slightly, you take the flowers from him with a giggle, wrapping your arms around his torso tightly, “of course Luke” and he lets out a quiet ‘yes!’ embracing you and lifting you off the ground a little before looking down at you with a grin “now, about that dress color…”
I joined tumblr in 2014 with a 1D blog and an embarrassing username, but over this past year I’ve really become a part of the tumblr community (as well as changed my username a couple times) and I’ve met a lot of super cool people along the way! I just hit my first goal on here over the weekend so I figured I’d celebrate by making my first follow forever :-) Bolded are mutuals. I hope I haven’t missed anyone! (This got really long so I put it under a read more…)
Ashton is sitting on the sofa, a glass of wine in his hands and eyes focused on the TV, and you watch him intently because you hadn’t just admired your boyfriend in a long time and sit next to him, draping your arms around his shoulder. He smiles but doesn’t acknowledge you in any other way, which irritates you, so you nuzzle your nose into his neck, playing with his hair and start leaving small pecks on his neck. He turns around to look at you with raised eyebrows as if he is asking you what you’re doing and daring you to do it again, so you do. But instead of pecking him, you leave open mouthed and wet kisses along his neck, and just to tease him you moan against his neck, and you know that you’re so done when Ashton is finished watching his show and he’ll be focusing on you. So done!
There’s a reason why the recipe for these two-bite cakelettes
has endured for over two hundred years. Madeleines are sweet and moist with
crisp, golden edges. The classic flavor has a hint of lemon and vanilla.
Perfect to dunk in tea or coffee, small enough to eat several in a sitting
without feeling guilty – they’re my newest favorite thing to bake.
There are two stories for who first created the Madeleine. Some
say, “madeleines may have been named for a 19th-century pastry cook, Madeleine
Paulmier, but other sources have it that Madeleine Paulmier was a cook in the
18th century for Stanisław Leszczyński, whose son-in-law, Louis XV of France,
named them for her.” (Straight from Wikipedia, folks.) Whatever the source, they
are always baked in seashell shaped tins.
There are about as many recipes for madeleines these days as
there are pastry chefs and home bakers. Some recipes are savory, and include
ingredients such as cornmeal, cheese, pesto, chili peppers, bacon bits, caramelized
onions, dill, and rosemary.
The sweet ones can be plain, or dipped in chocolate and rolled
in nuts or smeared with jam. The wide range of flavorings includes bourbon, chai
tea, Kahlua, mint, banana, orange, cinnamon, almond, and rosewater.
This recipe came from taste testing a variety of others and putting my personal spin on them. Because the zucchinis are now
proliferating faster than we can eat them, I added some shredded zucchini to
half of the batter. Those turned out fabulous, too, however not quite as light and
crisp. (I squeezed excess moisture out of zucchini before adding.)
Madeleines. Makes approximately 24.
2 large eggs
1/3 cup granulated sugar
Pinch of salt
½ cup flour
¾ teaspoon baking powder
6 -½ tablespoons melted butter, cooled to room temperature
1 tablespoon honey
Lemon zest, about ½ teaspoon
½ teaspoon vanilla
Special equipment needed:
Small ice cream scoop (you can also use a teaspoon)
In a large bowl, whisk the eggs. Whisk in the sugar. In a
separate bowl, stir together the salt, flour and baking powder. Add the dry
ingredients to the wet, and whisk until smooth. Stir the honey into the melted
butter. Whisk the butter-honey mixture, vanilla and lemon zest into the batter until
smooth. Refrigerate batter for two hours or for as long as overnight.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Generously coat Madeleine pan
with non-stick cooking spray. Using a small scoop or teaspoon, fill Madeleine cups
¾ full. (See pictures.) Bake for 6 minutes, or until no shiny spots remain in
Let Madeleines cool in the pan for a couple of minutes.
(Cooling the cakes in their pans for a few minutes helps form the scalloped
impressions.) Remove cakelettes from the pans and continue cooling on a wire
rack. If you only have one madeleine pan, repeat the process to bake the remaining batter.
Dust with powdered sugar if desired. Any uneaten Madeleines can be
One of the pros that living with Luke has is that he always randomly starts singing. It would be like your own personal concert. You’d be waking up from your sleep and you’d hear him singing in the shower, you’d be sitting on the couch next to each other and he’d randomly start humming a tune which would result in singing the song, you’d be entering the kitchen and Luke would be singing one of his original songs but differently while making lunch, which would prefectly show how much potential his voice has. And you’d walk up to him and hug him from behind, startling him and he’d stop singing and smile at you to which you’d only mumble against his shoulder. “Don’t stop. Please.” And his smile would grow and he’d start singing for you again, singing lyrics from a love song that describe his feelings to you.
a/n I kind of like this and may do a second part some time eventually
The plastic of your laundry basket dug into your hip as you made your weekly trek from the laundry room in the basement of your apartment building to your apartment on the fourth floor. You wanted nothing more than to hurry back to your apartment and maybe indulge in some wine and bad romantic comedies, a great way to unwind and relax, and you desperately wanted to avoid any neighbourly chit chat on the way up. Making it to your floor you sped down the hallway, you were almost there, practically tasting the popcorn you had hidden away in your cupboards. The jingle of keys grabbed your attention and before you knew it the one thing you wanted to avoid most of all stood between you and your door. Coming face to face with his cocky smile you could feel your mood worsening and his gaze as it raked down your body.
“Hey (Y/N), got a hot date I see,” Calum laughed. “I’ll try not to wake you up when I come home late babe, I know these walls are pretty thin.”
You didn’t think it was possible for his grin to grow any more, but it did as he brushed past you. A hot flush crept up your face and you were about to tell him to go fuck yourself when he called out a “love the jammies” and slipped into the stairwell.
