Joker - by Caitlin Howle

Did you hear this one?

A  man walks into a bar,

his alcoholism is destroying his family.

It makes me smile.

Like cancer patients that understand

you have to die to pay the bills.

Or burn victims, who know there’s

no beauty, only chance.

A  moment may leave a scar forever.

I saw an accident once, the semi-truck

flipped onto a small car. The punch-line?

There was nothing left to identify the bodies.

Once, on the television,

I saw a priest being arrested for not being able

to keep his God inside of his pants.

I laughed for days.

The sooner this world learns, the easier it will be:

in our lives, everything is a joke.

One fucking joke.
