Cairns Birdwing (Ornithoptera euphorion)
Also known as the Cooktown Birdwing or the Northern Birdwing, the Cairn’s birdwing is a species of Papilionid butterfly that is endemic to northeastern Australia, occuring southwards from Mount Webb and Cooktown to Mackay in Queensland. Cairns birdwings typically occur in rainforests, riverine forests, and even near coastal regions. They are often seen visiting the flowers of Lantana, Hibiscus, and Bougainvillea spp. Their larvae are known to feed on Aristolochia spp. and Pararistolochia spp.
