This is my little brother, reading my Hawkeye issue #19. He is hearing impaired and is currently using/learning sign language as his primary means of communication. He spent his entire lunchtime pouring over this comic, so excited about his language being in one of my books! And a superhero book!
“I am slowly working my way through the guys of the MCU. When The Avengers came out, it was Clint and Thor with a little bit of Loki. Then I was in love with Captain America since he’s such a gentleman. Now it’s Bucky Life-Ruiner Barnes. How are there so many great guys in this fandom? Ugh…”
Clint: I think I’ll stick with my childishly adorable gap, Thanks. I already have hearing aids, I don’t need speech impediment added to my list of handicaps. Besides, I still have a baby tooth or two. Once they fall out and grow in big the SHIELD dentist says they’ll push the gap in and I’ll be perfect. So I’m fine.
Why everyone should read the current Hawkeye comic series
It’s full of so much of Clint’s sarcasm and silliness. He’s a big goof. He’s in his pajamas most of the time. This is all shit that is happening to him when he’s living as an average guy and not with the avengers (atm)
LOSING HIS PANTS ALL THE TIME
HE HAS A DOG TOO
HAS THE BEST REACTIONS
HIS HAIRSTYLE IS ALMOST ALWAYS “BED-HEAD”
BEST OF ALL: KATE BISHOP (NEED I SAY MORE?):
BUT IT ALSO HAS SOME WELL WRITTEN ANGST. ISSUE #19 JUST CAME OUT AND IT’S A MUST READ:
Hawkeye #19 portrays the world of a deaf superhero to a hearing audience. The comic’s artist, David Aja, tweeted about the comic upon it’s release:
It’s very true. It’s what makes this issue so important and very special. I encourage everyone to pick up a copy and then maybe you’ll want to pick up the rest of the series (I can’t see why you won’t). Come for the silliness, stay for the angst. Stay longer cuz it’s Hawkeye!!
Pleeeeeeeease read the comic before you read the rest of this. The idea of this particular issue is that you don't understand everything. Some things are explicitly signed (in the boxes without faces), others are actually part of a regular image.
I’ve listed the page number and what the sentence is, not each individual sign. If you want the individual signs, let me know. But it would be really clunky since signing doesn’t use functional words often, so your brain just kinda has to put the function words in there on its own.
