“I look at you and I would rather look at you than all the portraits in the world except possibly for the Polish Rider occasionally and anyway it’s in the Frick which thank heavens you haven’t gone to yet so we can go together for the first time and the fact that you move so beautifully more or less takes care of Futurism -”
Sigma glanced down at his phone, his heart clenching painfully in his chest. We need to talk was never a good sign. He glanced at the table full of gifts then back down at the coordinates he’d been given. Why. Why after all of this, after all his efforts was he going to do this to him?
He knew it had only been a matter of time. After all, Sigma wasn’t him. He wasn’t the right Rick, he never had been. He’d been a distraction, at best. His hands were shaking, trying to find their way to his portal gun. The last thing he wanted to do was go and meet up with Bill. He wasn’t ready.
Taking a few deep breaths, Sigma tried to steel himself. He couldn’t be a mess when he stepped out of that portal. As he punched in the coordinates and opened up the portal, he squared his shoulders. There was no way he would let Bill see what a mess he was. Maybe he was wrong. Maybe Bill was calling him here for a surprise. He swallowed, stepping through.
It only took him a moment to find Bill.
Cipher whipped around at the sound of his husband’s voice, giving him a weak smile and gesturing to the seat next to him. “…Want a drink? My treat.”
Sigma looked alright, but the worry in his eyes was evident. A pang of guilt shot through the demon’s chest. He hated to do this to him, he did… But he was already doing was far worse to this man by stringing him along when he didn’t mean to. The demon took a deep breath, trying to steady himself. This wouldn’t be easy, it’d be hard, incredibly hard. But he loved him, he loved his family. And despite his lack of experience, Cipher knew this wasn’t the way a family was supposed to work.
He looked down at his hands, his thumb fidgeting with his wedding ring. He swallowed before he spoke.
“Things have changed, Rick… I can’t say for sure whether it’s for better or for worse but I know that for you and the kids it’s been less than ideal… Far less…”
Finally his golden gaze drew up to meet the other. “I love you. And because I love you I can’t… I can’t bear to be the reason you hurt anymore. You, Eldora, Morty, Moticia… All of you.” He shook his head. “I have gone over every solution I can think of meticulously and I’ve come to conclusion that this… It’s unfair to keep you in the midst of all this. To make you feel like second best.”
Hedwig had been wondering what his reaction would be for as long as she had been awake. He was embarrassed, that was obvious. Perhaps it was her… perhaps it was what she was that had him feeling so guilty. Hedwig was so used to one- night stands, but this felt different– she felt hurt somehow. Ashamed.
❝Let’s not draw this out then.❞ She grumbled, leaning down to grab her panties from the floor, slipping them on under the covers to save him further embarrassment of looking at her mutilated body.
❝Don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone. Your reputation is safe.❞
